Why are we portrayed with such disdain by the media? I'm a young Cowboys fan who is 30 and hasn't seen us win the SB. However, all I've ever known is the media absolutely picking at us. I ask this because, if we don't win the SB, I know what the narrative is going to be. Every other team is allowed to say they had a great season if they make it to the playoffs. However, in light of the Diggs injury, the chances of us making it to the SB is naturally going to severely drop. If we make the playoffs and go as deep as I think we still can (I still think we can make the NFCC), we are going to be portrayed as an awful team with loser fans and all that. Honestly, it's been getting more and more annoying. It's like the media makes it seem like we aren't allowed to love this team the way that we do. I love the Cowboys. I'm always going to be a fan of the team. I'm just wanting to know why it seems like, to the media, we are the one team who catches as much flak as we do. It seems like we aren't allowed to be fans of the Cowboys by the likes of SAS, Cowherd, and Shannon Sharpe.
Know the real difference and just don't give the time of day to Cow Turd and his waste of time lies. Like a bunch of wive's tales.

Because recent history has repeatedly shown the Cowboys to be a house of cards every year that is more hype than substance.
The Cowboys were once a great franchise, but Jerry has turned them into a perennial circus.
Back to your point of worship...

Sorry, I meant to add the explanation for my above post not just a movie trailer.

The movie is of course North Dallas Forty, which is a fictionalized story of the Cowboys, masquerading in the book/film as the North Dallas Bulls. It primarily is following the escapades of WR Pete Gent and his friend QB Don Meredith.

And this is the core of why there's been a hatred of the Cowboys.

See, when the Cowboys were founded in the 60's they were just another football team. The team had Bob Lilly, Mr. Cowboy and not much else early. They had a fantastic hard nosed, very conservative straight down the line coach in Tom Landry.

Enter Tex Schramm the Cowboys GM and Gil Brandt the chief scout. Schramm decided to redefine the Cowboys and reinvent the NFL. He'd been GM since the beginning but he wanted to add to the Cowboys something more, something greater, especially with the rising popularity of more aggressive AFL style football.

He marketed the Cowboys as "America's Team" and took lead on initiatives like adding cheerleaders, moving the goalposts to the back of the endzone, and encouraging the merger with the AFL.

He also did not hate the image of the Cowboys in the decadent 70's. He embraced the glitz glamor and showmanship. He didn't shy away from the harsh hard drinking hard drug image of guys like Gent and Meredith. But he also embraced guys like Staubach and Lilly who were seen as paragons of virtue.

During Schramm's days there were all kinds of wild parties at his house, wild stories of the Cowboys getting up to no good. Lots of glitz, lots of glamor. I know I was there as a child, my father worked for the team, I learned the smell of weed at 3 by the Cowboys coming over to my parents house to play on our Atari VCS. A certain film about a girl named Debbie was out in that era.

The Cowboys were hated by a lot of people then and it stuck, their swagger, their arrogance, their 70's style Studio 54 Image was hard to shake, even with guys like Landry and Staubach who were literally pure as the wind driven snow and didn't even get slightly involved.

The disdain stuck into the 90's and got worse after, and of course we had Irvin and some others that continued the "North Dallas Forty" image.

So the Cowboys are a lightning rod, they love the spotlight, always have. It's Schramm's legacy and as much as people hate Jerry for it, Schramm started the tradition. People that don't love the Cowboys hate them, even if they don't know why. It's not new, it's history. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Do you see Texans fans saying "we dem Boyz", or claiming their team is going to the SB every season? We do.
Uhm, actually I have not heard the latter in a long time. Now it's "but a good regular season is enough". I wish they would do that again. I don't need the first thing though.

I get that it generates engagement, but I don't know what we did to generate the amount of hate that we get. I don't think the Steelers or Patriots get nearly the viciousness that we get. I mean, nobody is calling them terrible if they miss the playoffs. They come up with excuses for them if they miss. But, if we are good, then there's an excuse for why we are good to where we are really not good. If we struggle, even in a win, then we are seen as the worst team. It's really deflating as a fan to see the amount of hate we get.
A big part of it is the ratings we generate. Whether for a game or for a talk show that talks about us. Those that get the jobs that cover the Cowboys and aren’t former cowboys are simply jealous that their team isn’t the one their producer is pushing them to talk about.

Add in the fact that we haven’t had great playoff success yet still get the maximum number of nationally televised games aggravates them more.

They are mad at tbe free market. Not the Cowboys. It’s jealously and confusion.

I’m almost sure NFL films coined the phrase “Americas team” as just another title of wrap of of last year/preview of the upcoming year show.

Fair enough, I think that helps me understand the reason better.

No -- the phrase "America's Team" was given birth long ago by the Cowboys' GM back in the 60s. Tom Landry never liked it because it sounded too stuck up and self-important to the fans of other teams. Anyhow, Tom Landry was right about that and Tex Schramm just ignored it. Unfortunately. It's been somewhat of a burden for the Cowboys ever since. It seems advertising self-love so openly just wasn't a good look to others than our fans.

That's exactly what it feels like ATM. I do think we finally have a team that can at least make the NFCC game, and the Diggs injury doesn't change that for me. It's just, unfortunately, if we don't go beyond that, we are going to get **** on by everyone again. It's like we aren't allowed to just have a solid season.
Confidence in team comes from the commitment by self to a team.

Why are we portrayed with such disdain by the media? I'm a young Cowboys fan who is 30 and hasn't seen us win the SB. However, all I've ever known is the media absolutely picking at us. If you've got the largest fanbase and you want clickbait, you go to the extremes, you also need to factor in that biggest team also elicits the largest opposition (eg Yankees, Man United etc). A middle of the road, well balanced argument doesn't mobilize either side of the argument.

The media just wants you to read and a reaction.

Isn't that institutionalized irresponsibility? If one merely wants a question, use a mathematical formula instead. That will throw out unanswered questions when applied to real world problems...just solve.

No, it's a blend of 'freedom of the press' mixed with the need to make money...every click = dollars, the more outrageous = more clicks it's a perpetual circle in search of money by being controversial.

Not according to this guy. He flat out says he came up with it himself. —bob ryan (not the sports writer)

Drew Pearson confirms it as do others on this clip. I guess they could be wrong, but Pearson acted as if he’d never heard it before the film came out.

Eagles fans talking about Cowboys fan’s perception is the definition of trolling. You complaining and criticizing someone for how they feel about other fans opinions is ironic, because you would not be here if you didn’t care. Yep you are a hypocrite too, and you’re incapable of even understanding why that is. From what I’ve read of the ignorant dribble you spew here, you’re not only a very sad person who pretty much is only here to troll. You’re also completely unqualified to teach anyone anything.
Miyagi, you must be one of those forum protectors, who get excited every time an “enemy” fan posts on your board.

Do you feel better now that you had the opportunity to call me a troll, a hypocrite, ignorant, and sad.?

Maybe a little over reaction to my question?

Rusty , a big part of it is being labeled Americas Team.

Tom Landry warned us it would place a target on our backs but Tex Schramm embraced and promoted it anyway.

And we became the most hated franchise in the NFL. We are a financial bonanza for the media and it’s hacks.
