Because Austin is a running back not a receiver. He is a gadget guy and that's it. I'm not assuming Switzer can do more then Beasley it's facts. He can line up inside, outside, in the backfield plus he brings value in the return game. Switzer finally got some action and had 6 catches, do the math over a 16 game season and you will see Beasley having his 36 catches is terrible and not sure why anybody is defending an over rated, old bum like Beasley
If Austin is purely a RB, then why did you advocate keeping him over Beasley?
As for Switzer, what you are talking about is versatility, not quality. I asked if we are sure he is as good or better AS A RECEIVER, and you didn't answer that.
As for Switzer having 6 catches - do you really consider that significant? How about that 6.83 yards per catch average? How significant is that? He caught a very small handful of very short passes - yee haw!
And lets not forget most of his catches were in a throwaway game for the opponent, who used backup players.
Now, I can be fair, even if you can't. I willingly concede the fact Switzer didn't catch many passes may have more to do with opportunity than ability, but the reality is we don't know that. For you to act as if 6 short passes for tiny gains is somehow meaningful is laughable. And I will also concede his versatility as a returner is a nice asset, although he is a risk taker, and he needs to learn when to fair catch. But ultimately it's about who is the better receiver, because that spot isn't just a 4th or 5th receiver, it's the top slot receiver on the team. Beasley has a track record, and while it's true he had a down year last year, there isn't really any reason to believe his skill set has diminished.
