Why did we have to trade R. Switzer?

It's funny that there's still a thread on page 1 of this board about a player that was traded during the draft, but there are no threads about the players we actually drafted.

I like Beasley but Switzer could do what he does, is cheaper and under contract
Beasley is a FA after this season
Switzer is a solid return guy
We traded the wrong short white guy
Well because Beasley doesn't have trade value. He is vastly over rated by some of these fans on here. He is just a guy, nothing special and can be replaced with a rookie. 36 catches is what a running back could get

How many 800 yard seasons has Austin posted? Austin has been in the NFL only one year less than Beasley, and he has 910 fewer yards receiving than Beasley. And if you are going by last year as an indicator of what a player has left in the tank, as you did with Beasley, Austin only had 47 (yes 47) receiving yards in 2017. As for age (by the way, Beasley is 29, not 30) Austin is only on year younger than Beasley.

As for Switzer, he does have the age and cost benefit, but are we really sure he has as much or more ability as a receiver? Maybe so, maybe not, but I think it's off base to just assume it.
Because Austin is a running back not a receiver. He is a gadget guy and that's it. I'm not assuming Switzer can do more then Beasley it's facts. He can line up inside, outside, in the backfield plus he brings value in the return game. Switzer finally got some action and had 6 catches, do the math over a 16 game season and you will see Beasley having his 36 catches is terrible and not sure why anybody is defending an over rated, old bum like Beasley

Can someone give me the download here? He seemed to be developing nicely, we may have had a different vision for him but I see this being the next Danny Amendola situation where he goes on to have a good career in the NFL.

He had the quickness to play the slot but we already had an entrenched slot buy. He did not have the speed to play the RB/WR hybrid position that Dunbar and Whitehead played. We got Austin to play it instead.

Throw in our having Beasley, TWill, Hurns, Gallup, Thompson, Wilson, and Brown competing for a limited number of slots it made sense to trade Switzer for a 300 lbs DL to help the team. None of the other WR had trade value.

The Cowboys already had a Beasley in Beasley and with the Cowboys acquiring Austin, Switzer was just push further down on the pecking order. Switzer lost his return duties to Austin and would pretty much only have seen the field if there was an injury to Beasley or Austin. Switzer was no longer needed and if the Cowboys could get something for him more power to them.

You obviously missed it that the Cowboys were planning to use Switzer like they are now going to use Austin as a kind of answer for losing Dunbar. The Cowboys were able to get something for Switzer so more power to them.

Numbers game. We simply do not have room for him. Might as well get a player for him.

lol, defensive tacklkes with 30 tackles and 1 sack in two years are a dime a dozen as well.

Let’s not pretend Ward hasn’t been a complete disappointment so far, he’s far from a sure thing.
Not on our team they're not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We didn't trade the wrong guy, I don't think Oakland would have taken Beasley. We got the DT and replaced Switz with Austin. No sense is worrying about it now.

Austin and Switzer.

Not sure why people think Switzer wouldn't have made the team. Jerry wasn't looking to trade him but yet folks think they would have cut him. Not a chance
switzer wasn't that special. people are making him out to be this great WR that he wasn't. I think Beasley is better.

You are assuming that the offensive brain trust of the Cowboys knows how to use a player like Ryan Switzer. Heck Danny Amendola was a Cowboy and we did nothing with him. Put Ryan Switzer on the Patriots and you will see how players like that need to be used. We won't ever get there while the red moron is HC.

Beasley is 30, he isn't going to improve and is nothing special at all.

Meanwhile Switzer just finished his rookie year and has more talent then Beasley plus he can do other things to contribute to the team and Beasley can not. Beasley had 36 catches last season, a rookie can give you that production, not sure why some folks keep taking like Beasley is a top 10 receiver. He isnt, not even top 30

the question is not just Beasley vs. Switzer....

its Beasley-Ward-Austin vs. Switzer-Beasley

these two trades were related, getting Austin, then trading switzer to add depth to DL.

again, we are talking about switzer......and Beasley....two JAGs...that are a pinch apart. and are complementary at best...freaking switzer....a nobody...so is bealsey
