why didn't we pick Steven Jackson or Chris Johnson?

Parcells said he passed on Steven Jackson because he wanted a back with more potential for "home runs" -- long runs. He said Julius Jones had more.

We passed on Chris Johnson because Felix Jones showed more all-around ability than just speed. And as has been mentioned, if we had drafted Johnson, he wouldn't be getting more than about 12 carries per game, and Felix likely would be a Pro Bowl back for the Titans, and fans would be crying about not drafting him.

whole lotta ifs there.

Honestly? Its that outrageous to you? You really can't see CJ being a future hall of famer? Or Jackson? Really..

Get back to me in 5-6 yrs or so.

Today, absolutely not on either of them.

I'll disagree with respect to Steven Jackson. When he was coming out Dallas had a huge need at RB and he was a better back than Julius Jones. That's not even arguable. Parcells just showed how mediocre he really was as a talent evaluator at that moment. He reinforced it with other bonehead pcks along the OL and at TE afterwards. The Barbie pick was just the icing on the cake. We should've drafted Jackson, and had we done so, i think Parcells would've had much more playoff success than he did in Dallas.

I didnt say I agreed with it (Parcells decision), I am laughing because he'd be getting the same garbage blocking that our current RB's get.

There's only so much a RB can do, especially if they have to face 8 and 9 man fronts. If your blocking is a failure, the RB will be a failure.

We didn't pick Jackson because of his agents The Postons.

We didn't pick Chris Johnson because we thought Felix matched our offense better.

It's still too early to call CJ a future hall of famer. He has to keep up his production over many years and avoid injury. I'm not too upset we passed on him for Felix. Felix was more the type of back we were looking for.

SJax is a future hall of famer and Jerry passing over him was as bad as passing over Moss. He has shown he can carry a team and play through most injuries.

Steven Jackson has been one of the best RBs in the NFL over many years behind the Rams awful offensive line, on an offense that had zero passing threat. Teams have been stacking 8-9 in the box on him consistently and he still performs. Unfortunately for the Rams, winning NFL games requires some kind of passing game and a defense.

Yes defenitely. And while Steven Jackson is not a future hall of famer (I don't think), I still see him as a solid starter in today's NFL. Julius Jones was never that, anywhere he played. His NFL career will soon be over. SJ is a mainstay. This current Cowboy team would be much different if we drafted him. The Parcells Cowboys would've been better also.

Steven Jackson still has a little ways to go to be considered a future Hall of Famer. He has been pretty good, but it is premature for him to get HoF consideration. He just passed Eric Dickerson as the Rams all-time leading rusher; however it took him 2 more seasons or 26 more games and 172 more carries to accomplish that feat. I think he can get to HoF status in a few years, but he isn't there, yet.

If Jackson is not a future Hall of Famer yet, then Chris Johnson definitely isn't. He is only in his third season. He has a long ways to go. Something to consider. Jackson is 2 years older than CJ, but has played 4 more seasons than CJ.

Both guys are pretty darn good, but that doesn't mean everyone would have been pleased with them in Dallas. It could be a bit of a "grass is always greener" situation. Many were pushing for Barber to be the starter at one point. It did not take long before they were pushing for someone else to start.

Jackson is for sure. I'll guarentee that right now. CJ is off to a VERYY good start.

Its certainly not laughable to consider either of them future HoF'ers. Just shows some people think their knowledge of the game is far superior to others here when clearly it is not. ha

Didn't we pick Chris Johnson when we could have?

Two future hall of famers that we let slip right through our hands!

Do you realize how good we would be with either of these guys right now!

HAhahahahahaha, oh no. What have I done to deserve this?

I'm wondering why you didn't pick the Lions or Browns?

Wouldn't you have been happier these past 30 years?

Just think of all the ammo you could've had and all your threads would have been well received.

Bunch of teams passed on them both. We also could have picked Tom Brady.

Jackson a sure hall of famer? Why?

Sure might be overstating it. The selection committee is notoriously harsh on great players that played on bad teams. If he ended his career today, he wouldn't be a HOFer. He has a great shot at ending in the Top 10 rushers in league history though. The current top 9 are in the HOF or will be.

No one, including the Patriots, expected Tom Brady to be even close to the QB he became. At the time of the 2004 draft, most people thought Steven Jackson was a better RB than Julius Jones.

Including Belicheck who thought he sucked after the first camp. If he hadn't been drafted he most likely doesn't make their 53 that season.

He's been one of the best running backs in the league every year for a team with ZERO other offense. He does it against 8 and 9 man fronts CONSTANTLY because everyone knows he's the only threat on that team.

He's already passed Dickerson as their all time leading rusher and shows no signs of slowing down, and should get more open field to work with as they get better as a team now.
