Why do we have the same concerns year in and year out????

Seems like every year we have the same concerns in our secondary. I'm not talking specifically about Newman's injury but that does expose a problem we have. Every year we keep looking to the secondary as our problem. Either Roy has to play out of his strengths or we have no depth at the Db position because of injury or we just have guys who get exposed.

Why doesn't this team address this in either the Draft or FA? For example, this year we have 13 mill. available under the cap. We really didn't address it. We totally ignored it in the draft and we have done so for the last few years.

Just wondering if it's just me or is there a reason we have gone down this road. Seems like if we get caught with our pants down on this again, we only have ourselves to blame.

Hmmmm.....let's see...

1. Nate Clements wanted $80m

2. Rod Hood wanted too much, and is injury prone and probably nothing more than a nickel back

3. The top 3 corners in the draft were unavailable by the time we picked

4. There was another one dropped to the second round, but the guy's a known rapist

5. Samuels would have costed us draft picks

6. There was Usama Young in round #3, but we would have had to wait another 2-3 years for him to fully develop

7. If we had gotten Dre Bly, Nick Folk wouldn't have popped up in our laps, and we would have kicking issues ala '05

Frankly-I was shocked Bill P ignored this area while he was here. Jerry even suggested we didn't MANY times during his era, but he ignored him nonetheless.

This year is only part of the equation. We reallly haven't done much there for a few years. As for Dre Bly, I would swap him for Nick Folk right now and go get raynor or mason Crosby from GB. They have been trying to trade one of them

Bly is also injury prone too, FWIW.

How about we take a page out of Belichek's book and just plug in players and win anyway.

This team is pretty solid. Every team has needs every year. No team is solid in all three phases of the game.

you cant have all pros at every position, nor can you expect to have backups capable of being good starters for every position

Normally our biggest concern on defense is pass-rush. That isn't much of a concern right now. Right now our biggest concern is an injured player. That's about it. That's going to be a concern every year.

This is very true. But this is the same area we struggle with every year. It's not that I expect them to solve the problem overnight, it's just that they don't seem to take any steps to address it.

Most teams have secondary concerns. Even the teams that have really good starters struggle to find excellent depth. Secondary has got to be one of the hardest units to build, because let's face it, teams in this league pass and pass well.

David, I never said the sky is falling. Nor do I expect this team to be awful due to this. My point was that when we have these concerns each year in the same area and we don't take steps to address it, it just brins some red flags out. If that's the "Sky is falling" then so be it.

Cause this is the NFL and no team can have the top players at every position.

Holy cow, where did I say we should have the top players at every position? I do think we should at least have capable players that can fill in in a pinch at each position. Just my crazy way of thinking.

then your thinking is warped

at some point you have to just go with what you have and hope your coaching can overcome some lesser players having to play

this team has far fewer concerns this yr than in any yr in recent memory...I dont see what you are complaining about...this is by far the most talented team we've had in years

Yep-even Pitt has secondary woes. And it wasn't very good when they won that Super Bowl.

Funny how when you win, noone talks about your weaknesses-it's when you LOSE is when everyone starts buzzing about them.

Thats the point though .... we already have one top corner and a top safety.

The other two, Henry and Hamlin, are good players .....

thats our 4 starters ...... there is only so much you can prepare for as far as injuries are concerned.

That's dumb, David. "You just have to go with what you got" thinking makes no sense. The whole point of this was why haven't we improved the "What we got" area? we haven't addressed it. We just take for granted that we are going to magically fix this with some potion or something.
