That's dumb, David. "You just have to go with what you got" thinking makes no sense. The whole point of this was why haven't we improved the "What we got" area? we haven't addressed it. We just take for granted that we are going to magically fix this with some potion or something.

Tell me why Pitt hasn't fixed their's. Not making excuses for us, but pretty much all 32 teams have their share of big problems, not just us.

Thats the point though .... we already have one top corner and a top safety.

The other two, Henry and Hamlin, are good players .....

thats our 4 starters ...... there is only so much you can prepare for as far as injuries are concerned.

Well, because of this situation or "Top" safety can not perform like he is a top safety because he is forced into coverage which is is not that good at. Like I said, I don't think we should have pro bowlers at every position and depth with Pro bowlers, but it's an area we ignored.

At least they've won a SB recently, so they've done something right recently. But not our 'boys.

I don't care about Pitt. I care about why we haven't done anything about the depth.

Because 4 years ago every position had to be improved - you can't make everything better in that amount of time. We drafted Newman and signed Henry - that was moves to improve. We constantly draft later round DBs hoping to find someone. I hardly count that as something 'we haven't addressed."

Sure, we could have taken a CB in the draft, but then we would be whining about not addressing OLB when we KNEW Ellis was injured (we didn't know Newman would be).

I'm not sure what the solution would have been. With newman our secondary looked pretty good. Everyone was happy with Glenn at 3 and with Reeves at 4 - it only took Newman for people to get all sky is falling about DB.

I believe I all but answered your question. In this age of FA/salary cap, every team is going to have its fair share of problems.

I'm not making excuses for us having a lack of depth in the DB, but like many times, it seems to be one of our problems-we just have to live with it.

It makes much more sense to question the decisions this team is making right now than it does to use the privilege of hindsight to question those made in the past.

Before Newman's injury and the sudden "inability" for Glenn to be a functional spot starter, cornerback wasn't a great need for this team.

It wasn't like we didn't have many more legitimate concerns that had to be addressed each and every year. There is a new one each season.

Again, I don't think we should have went DB 1st round. But knowing we are and have been thin there, we should have looked at it in the draft at some point. And again, I am not saying the sky is falling.

I have never seen so many people over react to a post in my life as I do on this board. If you even say one thing negative, you are a dooms sayer, a chicken little, or not a REAL fan,

You guys need some perspective.

About as long as it looks like we're gonna have to wait! Jethro's:eek:: only got about 15 more years of holding the franchise up on that.

Seems like every year we have the same concerns in our secondary. I'm not talking specifically about Newman's injury but that does expose a problem we have. Every year we keep looking to the secondary as our problem. Either Roy has to play out of his strengths or we have no depth at the Db position because of injury or we just have guys who get exposed.

Why doesn't this team address this in either the Draft or FA? For example, this year we have 13 mill. available under the cap. We really didn't address it. We totally ignored it in the draft and we have done so for the last few years.

Just wondering if it's just me or is there a reason we have gone down this road. Seems like if we get caught with our pants down on this again, we only have ourselves to blame.
I don't think you should uniformly say secondary. In 2004, it was the entire secondary. That was addressed with the addition of Henry and Glenn. In 2005, it was the free safety play. In 2006, they drafted Pat Watkins and had Davis, Elam, Roy et al.. Still had bad free safety play. This year they signed Hamlin and moved Courtney Brown to FS. So that hole is "seemingly" plugged.

Now there's a new concern for cornerback depth with the loss of Glenn and Newman's injury. Some things you can predict, others you can't. But, at least you know it's not being ignored.

I thank Jerry for hiring the Jimster and that's about it, as far as "football" goes!

I'd like Jerry just fine if he were just the owner, but him being GM is what's messin' everything up!

8 teams have won a superbowl since the last time "Jethro" did.

Green Bay, Denver, St. Louis, Baltimore, New England, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, and Indianapolis.

Which of those teams would you trade rosters with?

maybe 2 ?..... and those 2 don't have near the amount of young talent we do.

Keep crying about "Jethro"

Maybe it's because your thread is one of many that have been posted since the news came out about Newman's injury.

And like Alexander said, prior to Newman's injury and Glenn's sudden inability to cover, no one was questioning the cornerback depth...

And you also thank Jerry for drafting Troy Aikman over Jimmy's objection, right?

I'd trade talent with 4, and I'd trade GM's with just about all. Is it really talent if the team stays mediocre?

unless you're eduncan, we don't.

last year was the OL which we needed to fix. in the sedondary we had newman, henry and glenn. 1 shut down and 2 solid cbs. parcells brought in henry and glenn to fill that void. how is that *nothing* when both have been good?

in the revamped D LB's were suddenly a hot commidity around here like never before. we've had to go through a lot of those and get that set also.

is it something we need to watch for *now*? yes. but i'd hardly call it the same problem year in and year out.

If TNew was not injured, would this even be a topic? I am really, if newman was 100% would anyone have any issues with cutting A Glenn? I doubt it. The concern right now is the ? of newmans foot.

As far as not addressing the problems in the secondary.. what about Hamlin? We had a weakness at FS and they went out and got one they hope can fix it. I would have liked it if we had drafted a CB in the 1st, but we got a OLB with tremendous upside and a high #1 next year.. so I can live with that.

I think this secondary will be better than anyone seems to be giving them credit for right now. Its not A Glenn was a dominate cb, not even close. And he didn't seperate himself from the younger cb's on this team. And in this game, if its a tie, you go with youth.
