What is it that makes everyone think that T.O and Deion (and Dawkins? ) have inside information on what the Cowboys offseason plans are?
Do you understand the world of business? Do you know what a dumb business decision it would be to share your secret, impactful, intended acquisitions with the likes of T.O. or Deion?
These are 2 of the most selfish individuals in pro sports, not to mention 2 of the biggest mouths.
What benefit could there possibly be for Jerry Jones to share his privileged information with people who are not in the need-to-know circle?
I can think of none.
But I can think of MANY reasons why he shouldn't.
He is a savvy businessman. He didn't get where he is by running his mouth carelessly to the "little people". Does the owner of Coca-Cola tell the peon
bottler in his factory that he is planning on buying out R.C. Cola? Does the manager of Red Lobster tell the busboy he's planning on replacing the current cook?
The answer is no. Because it's not good business to do so. It's unecessary and frankly, foolish. The way players, coaches, etc. hold-out, resign, get fired, traded, released, arrested... these individuals are treated as though they may not be there tomorrow and therefor shouldn't be provided with priviledged information. ESPECIALLY someone like T.O. who has a track record of acting selfishly at the expense of his current team. Deion works for the media, for crying out loud. It's his job to "get the scoop". Do you think he's holding back major news out of the kindness of his heart? lol
Many of these moves aren't even shared with the coaching staff until after the fact. It's that cut-throat of a business where the less anyone knows, the better. That is why you often hear coaches voice their discontent with the ownership in terms of player personnel and talent acquisition. Remember Parcells' famous line? "If they want me to cook, then why don't they let me shop for the groceries?"
Have you ever heard a player respond to questioning about their team's acquisition of a free agent after the fact with, "Yea, I knew we were gonna do that. I was in the meetings when we decided to."
NO. They usually seem as surprised as we fans do. Most players don't want "big offseason splashes" because additions may threaten their own job security. Many of these guys don't even know if they're starting in a given week and are as aloof as we are before information is finally revealed.
I'm sorry but there isn't a big fun team clubhouse where all players and staff, past and current, meet in a big room and discuss team personnel plans.
