I think Dak's agent is teaching the Jones's a lesson. They could've extended him years ago, they chose to tag him twice. They chose to allow him to play out the last season while letting the price continue to rise. They chose to sit on their hands at the beginning of Free Agency and watch other players like Trevor Lawrence reset the market. They chose to send a message to the media that they were playing hardball. They chose to allow his last contract to include a no trade clause.
And I believe Todd France is now playing hardball with them. France is a part of Athlete's First agency, the same agency that represents Tua Tag... and Jordan Love. I think the Jones's have already given France a number, but because they've taken so long, and he was privy to what the Tua and Love deals would look like, he's decided to wait and allow them to reset the market first. Let the Jones's sit and wait and look like the morons that they are. And in the end when it's all said and done, the Jones's will have either:
A)
Waited too long to pay Dak, and will now be forced to overpay their QB that is highly coveted by other teams in need of an All Pro QB
or
B) Been forced to let him walk, carry over dead money into next season, and because of the no trade clause lose a HIGHLY coveted All Pro QB in his prime for NOTHING in return and with no certainty whatsoever of what the QB position will look like moving forward.

So when Jerry says they're trying and doing their best, he's not lying. At this point the best they can do is wait to be told what the price will be and make a decision on whether they want to keep their QB and their team intact to make another run at the playoffs. OR concede that they've ruined the Cowboys chances at competing for a super bowl and that Jerry will more than likely never see a QB as talented as Dak is, play for the Cowboys again.

And for anyone who hates Dak and thinks he's incapable of winning the big one, I can't say for certain that he can, but I like his chances if you give him a decent coaching staff which he hasn't had for the majority of his career, as well as a decent Front Office that would've known better than to extend Zeke and Jaylon Smith before prioritizing their franchise QB. This would've opened up more flexibility and options for the team long term.

Thank you Todd France for exposing their ineptitude.
We could quibble about the details, but it's true that Jerry only has himself to blame for the position the team is in right now. I also can't blame Dak's side for playing hardball, considering how his contracts have been handled since he's been here.

LMAOO !!!

This has to be a low paid France Lackey ! Jerry, doesn't want Dak anymore, and the Poor Davidians are losing their minds, loving the meltdowns .

The only one being taught a lesson is you . Jerry called your bluff and now your in full panic mode . This post reeks of Desperation . As the majority on this site have expressed :

CHOKOTA , dont let the door hit ya on the way out !!

ask yourself what you felt when dak threw that Pick 6?
As a fan, I was gutted. I wasn't happy. But any competent GM in the league wouldn't make a decision that would impact the entire franchise based on a couple of missteps. I'm not saying Dak is perfect by any means. He's made mistakes. But not nearly enough to just let him walk. That's just stupid to me.

another emotional response. I've noticed NOBODY who's against extending Dak has a plan that puts the Cowboys in a better position to win and make a playoff run. Not ONE reply has provided a solution. Everyone is just mad at Dak for not putting on a cape and becoming Superman in the playoffs

But what about the playoff game the year before and the one before that? He's had 8 years. What do you mean a couple of missteps?

Actually, the Cowboys called his bluff.

He wanted 80M per in March because he thought they would have to sign Dak in order to lower this seasons cap hit.

They proved that they are content to carry his current cap hit all season (No free agents available now).

They can Lower CeeDee's 2024 cap hit if he signs a new contract (i.e. No extra 2024 cap space needed).
So you're gonna pay to extend Lamb and reset the market for WR and then let his QB walk with nobody in mind to replace him? If Dak walks, the team he joins would more than likely be better than the Cowboys with Lamb and unnamed QB.

Each season is a different situation. He has a 2-5 playoff record. Far from impressive. But that doesn't tell the entire story. There are 22 guys on the field. There are multiple different schemes being run by coaches. There are so many different scenarios for each game that to be completely honest it's kinda dumb to just reduce it to "you're great during the season but in the playoffs you're record is 2-5 so we have to let you sign with another team while we hope to find another play as good as you during the season but better than you in the playoffs".

That's coz there isn't one.......at least not one that would void setting us back a couple of years or more. To be honest, your question is a standard ANY GM going to have to answer from their owner if he plans on getting rid of his franchise QB, especially one with Dak's record. The owner's question is simple....what your plan to improve the position from where we are NOW? In other words, who are you replacing him with that will get me at least get me to the playoffs and win at least one, maybe two playoff games?

What do you think the owner will say if the GM says .........I don't have one (LOL)

But I will say in his critics's defense........I think most of them are simply frustrated with the entire team. It is just that Jerry and Dak are easy targets.

The only thing a greedy sports agent deserves credit for is making his client a boat load of money.. Other than that, no lessons learned.

Millionaire's don't teach billionaire's lessons or have leverage on them unless they want it to appear that way...they just aren't comfortable paying Dak, playoff successful QB money. End of story.
Obviously Dak has no leverage over the Dallas Cowboys. The point is Dak’s agent has him in a desirable situation where the Dallas Cowboys have no leverage over Dak. Few NFL players, very few of Dak’s potential, get themselves into the contractual position Dak is in. That’s why he was at voluntary and mandatory OTAs, is at trading camp, and is always smiling. He seems more happy than Jerry Jones. He’s celebrating the birth of his first child, Jerry was in court suing his last one. Dak is talking about playing elsewhere, Jerry is talking about not being able to afford everything he wants in life. Jerry is asking fans to give him credit, Dak is telling fans to move on. Dak doesn’t have or need leverage. Unlike Jerry, he seems thrilled with how things are.

one could argue that pick 6 and his performance in yet another playoff game would be sufficient to say
NOT GONNA PAY HIM BIG BUCKS

You're being over dramatic. This front office isn't willing to put the team around Dak that is needed to get to a SB. So it's not going to happen. This QB isn't good enough to make up for it. So if they extend him, it's just to remain relevant, not to win a SB.

He’s below average in the playoffs

I was being generous

Nobody cares about his stat padding vs bottom feeders
And this same thing can be said of Tua.....and they'll both get the bag

There is no denying the amount of money Dak is going to get. That’s not disputable. People in here used to pretend like there was no market for Dak - they’re clueless and always have been. The question is who is going to pay him , Dallas or somebody else. It’s most likely going to be Dallas , imo.

A year ago I would have agreed with you but Jerry's been acting a lot different from his old MO. Jerry would love nothing more to be the catalyst behind seeing Lance become a franchise qb and proving everybody wrong.

He's tried it with Ryan Leaf and Brandon Weeden and some other bums.
