I'll be honest. I thought he'd have been a total disaster doing ND games. He wasn't all that bad. It was a bit rough early but he seemed to settle in a bit by year end.

Because the network execs like a Princeton guy who claps rhythmically??

Gotta remember networks and the entire body of NFL fans don't view him as a commentator through the same lens as Cowboy fans. They don't have the same negative emotions as Cowboy fans.

Of course they know he didn't accomplish what he was hired to accomplish with the Cowboys, but he's got a likeable personality, is articulate, and has an NFL background as both a player and coach. All of that fits well with TV.

I could do without most of the studio clowns doing NFL coverage these days. Just keep Maria Taylor on board, please.
Maybe the whole concept of a halftime show needs to be updated. Perhaps have someone like Pat McAfee do the show or have a regular host with a segment for folks like McAfee or the Mannings or other guests to recap\analyze the action. If you need to fill anymore airtime, maybe have a live report with real fans of the teams give their input. The whole multiple talking head thing has gotten old.

I grew up with the likes of Summerall, Brookshire, Cosell, Gifford, Meredith and Gowdy calling games. The NFL on CBS was a solid production piece with Musberger, George and Cross and some Jimmy the Greek levity. I can't get on board with clown shows I see hitched up to NFL coverage the past 30+ years. It's too much Simpsons and not enough Lombardi for me. Yup, I am old.

Why would anyone at NBC think its a good idea to add that dude? He's a few resistors away from beign a literal robot. Hearing him talk about Purdy, a rookie QB in the playoffs made me laugh. He literally had the same thing with Dak and couldn't do squat with it. Sorry, I guess I'm venting. Wasted 10 years of my life with him on the sidelines, and I think he's a big reason we're all always expecting the wrost.
For some reason, there are more people on Sports TV from The Dallas Cowboys, than any other team in the NFL.

I am still trying to figure out how Glen Campbell and the other guy are the #1 broadcast team on Fox. Can't they hire anyone else? Go hire the Mannings... at least it would be entertaining. I am serious..

Me too and I remember all of the names you mentioned. With age comes wisdom.

I get the negative left over from his coaching and press conferences. However, as a commentator, he's been improving and I actually like him.

We have to have a balance in the world to all the Irving's, Stephen A Smith's, Skip's, etc.

Fun watching everyone blow-up over Garrett, but at the same time he is making 25 times what they are making doing the day to day while fingering their keyboards. Gotta love the internet…
Yeah I don't understand the obsession over hating on Garrett, now that he is gone from the team.

I am glad he is on there. It makes for some good comedy at times on here. :muttley:
Plus it is another ex-Cowboy in the media. It must drive other teams fans as mad as some fans on here. :lmao:

because its their call ie their company and they decided he was good enough. no other explanation needed. A huge corporation decided fans don't determine who they use. :)
