Why is Garrett on NBC?

I don't get the Garrett hate at this point, just let the man live his life. I don't watch the NBC show very often because it's a little vanilla for me, but that seems to be what NBC wants. Guys like Garrett/Dungy are what they want, which I get because it's a very family friendly program.

I grew up with the likes of Summerall, Brookshire, Cosell, Gifford, Meredith and Gowdy calling games. The NFL on CBS was a solid production piece with Musberger, George and Cross and some Jimmy the Greek levity. I can't get on board with clown shows I see hitched up to NFL coverage the past 30+ years. It's too much Simpsons and not enough Lombardi for me. Yup, I am old.

One of the ESPN channels had on a shortened version (90 minutes) of the Cowboys - 49ers NFCCG game from 1992 yesterday.
They did not have the Summerall - Madden version announcing. They had it with the Cowboys announcers.

Brad Sham, Dale Hansen, and Dandy Don Meredith. It was the first time I heard that version.

In the 4th quarter, when Dallas went for it with a 11 point lead. Jimmy decided to go for it on 4th and 1 from the 7 yard line, instead of the FG to make it a 14 point lead. SF then went right down the field to get a TD, making it 24-20.

Dale Hansen said wonder if anyone would be brave enough to ask Jimmy about that 4th down call if Dallas were to lose.
Brad said he would ask him on the flight back home.
Dandy Don said, well you better have a parachute.

Garrett is like a NPC…literally….adds nothing but you need a suit as a placeholder and a few key phrases

Yeah, he rarely says anything that means much, but he provides an even keeled approach compared to the guys that just shout to shout.

Dandy Don had some priceless quips in the booth during his career. He must have been a hoot to play with. It's hard to believe he has been gone for so long.

I can't say that I've watched a whole lot of Garrett on TV. I've never really cared for that SNF show.. cause I can't bear looking at Rodney Harrison and knowing that his sorry arse may get into the Hall of Fame but Darren Woodson, who was 3X the player Harrison was, might not.

Fun watching everyone blow-up over Garrett, but at the same time he is making 25 times what they are making doing the day to day while fingering their keyboards. Gotta love the internet…

I'll never understand the ongoing Garrett hate. So he didn't get to a SB, got it. He had some good years though, and had some bad luck with late season injuries. He also owned the NFC East for a few years and coached some exciting wins. I never saw the team quit on him like the defense did for cup cake Phillips. I have more angst for the tuna bailing on a young Romo after the Seattle debacle. MM hasn't really shown much so far. His hand picked D coordinator might have been the worst coach they've ever had. Let's hope MM actually wins something in his third year.

We actually kept this clown for over a decade as a OC and then HC. Giants cut bait extremely quick and they get better immediately. He held back Daniel Jones just like he held back Romo and Dak, And don't be fooled that we have a new HC. Dak is still being held back because his OC comes from the Garrett coaching tree. We are running the same exact offense Garrett brought in 2007. Not one single thing has been adjusted.

Yeah I don't understand the obsession over hating on Garrett, now that he is gone from the team.

I am glad he is on there. It makes for some good comedy at times on here.
Plus it is another ex-Cowboy in the media. It must drive other teams fans as mad as some fans on here.

It seems a lot of people that post online feel that to disagree with a person, or feel a person isn't good at something, they have to have a personal dislike of that person.

Garrett was a bad coach. I think most of us agree on that. I just don't think believing that requires me to have a grudge or believe Garrett is somehow a bad person.

I have no idea anymore than why Tony Dungy, Rodney "Must Make Complete Sentence" Harrison, Chris Sims or Zac Collinsworth is on there.

I avoid all pregame shows but especially the one on CBS, that's like watching paint grow. I know it's like watching paint dry or grass grow but if you watch either, that will eventually happen.

I don't get this dislike for him as a commentator.

He’s being objective and refuses to cheerlead the Cowboys. With that being said I believe he was the only one on NBC to pick the Cowboys to beat Philly in their first matchup. Most dislike Troy Aikman as a commentator for the same reason.
