Why is Moose not in the Ring of Honor?

Great pic, where / when was that taken?

Troy used to have a Facebook page and I was searching through his photos and saw this picture. It was taken a few years ago and they were doing a fan meet up.

I'm not saying you can't make a cases for him but if Moose goes in that opens the door for a lot of other players from the 90's teams that deserve it too. I think the ring needs to be special and Darren Woodson is ahead of Darryl as far as I'm concerned. Maybe one day he'll get in.

This is my stance as well. I wouldn't argue against Moose, but like you said, you put Moose in than there's about a case for about 10+ others.

And sadly, he is a fullback. You really can't back up many stats for him.

People who go in to the ROH should also be HOF candidates.

Moose was the best FB for a decade............an entire decade. I am sorry, but he belongs in the ROH.

I am not going to debate who should get in before or after him......that is a different discussion altogether and shouldn't take away from the actual topic at hand......Moose and the ROH,

So, if I am voting, Moose is in.

For a decade? I don't think so. Thanks to his blocking and the '93 SB, he was the first FB ever selected to the Pro Bowl. The NFL started using FBs in the Pro Bowl in 1993, but Moose only represented the NFC at the position twice, 93-94. And he was never voted All Pro.

We all loved Johnston's blocking, but his cult status makes us forget just how versatile he wasn't.

Moose played 10 years. He averaged 75 yards rushing per YEAR. He averaged 222 receiving yards per YEAR. He scored on average 2 TDs per year. If you want him in the ROH for blocking, I think there are plenty of linemen who did more.

Ron Springs averaged more than 300 yards rushing and 285 yards receiving, and he scored almost 5 TDs per year in 8 seasons while blocking for Tony Dorsett.

Larry Centers might argue with you on that one.

He's a fullback........nothing more needs to be said!

Yep, it is not a glorious position. It is also a position that gets taken off the field in most obvious passing situations. Moose was great at what he did. I don't think that warrants RoH status. Kind of like being a good kicker.

Was Moose one of the best fullbacks to ever play for the team?
I wasn't around for the 70's/80's teams, so I can't answer that question without some bias

I don't think he makes it, but he was an important cog in the running game.

It's fullback. He was an excellent blocker. Below average runner. And a fair receiver. I followed the Cowboys back in the 1990s. I was born 1969. There are many Cowboy players who have had more prolific careers worthy of induction before him.

I was disappointed that Michael Irvin was put in the ROH.

Obviously, his on the field accomplishments were awesome, without question.

But his off the field crap left him off my list of "honor".

I have always felt that the "ROH" was determined by actions on the field as well as off the field.

That was never the standard.

I think this thread needs some perspective. Moose and Novacek were both very good players, but neither is worthy of the Ring of Honor, let alone the Hall of Fame. (Maybe the Hall of Very Good.)

Guess what? None of Tuinei, Newton, Stepnoski, Maryland, Casillas, Norton, Dixon, K. Smith or Gant (or any other pet cat you care to name) belongs in the Ring of Honor or Hall of Fame either, though they all made valuable contributions to those championship teams.

These are intended to be exclusive clubs. Only the best of the best get in.
Harsh but truth

Here's my short list of those who need to be next in the Ring:

Harvey Martin. Darren Woodsen. Those two should be the only sure things in the ring. It's time to put them there.

After that, Jimmy Johnson.
