simple. money money money money.I have been a fan since 1975.
I have read many post where the older fans are losing interest in the NFL,
and a lot of the younger generations are not much interested either.
We may watch Cowboy's games, but not other games or NFL shows.
The whole anthem protest thing and
Roger Goddells heavy handed treatment of Zeke are just taking the joy out of being a fan.
Don't understand Roger making an example out of one of the NFL's best young stars on the NFL's
most popular team, just plain crazy!
Will continue watching the Cowboys, but don't really care much about the rest of the League.
How do others feel about all this ?
Just sad to see America's once most popular sport going down the toilet.
the $-pot is really big, really really big. the numbers are huge, there is a lot at stake. so its hitting them in the bottom line. that's why the ratings are huge concern. its directly tied to advertiser money.
the more eyes watching you, the more complicated it becomes, the more people you have to please. Jones is taking this personally. it hits his bottom line. it hits cowboys popularity, his case is that cowboys are critical to NFL success. so Jones is fighting back. on top of that he is very emotional about the Anthem, which stands different than some of the other owners.
so Politics often divide people. divide families. divide neighbors and its now crept into NFL, which is an entertainement...a game and its now dividing the NFL at all levels. and the NFL as a whole is in a lose-lose situation. there is a large portion supporting the players. there is a large portion that's against it. who do you please? what ever your do, you end up doing the wrong thing and displeasing a lot of people. its again pinning players against owners as well. so politics is dividing them.
with that said, then there are different powers in the NFL, with different priorities and each impacted greatly now.
regarding the zeke case, NFL and goodell were in a lose-lose situation. They had to show they are serious about DV, they had talked about it. made it a big deal. made it a focus. if they didn't suspend Zeke, there would be huge backlash they had to deal with from all of media. if they did suspend zeke, they knew they would have a huge backlash to deal with given the iffyness of everything in this case. Jones is right, they had to over correct because of the Ray Rice suspension. its that screw up, that's leading to everything today and its a continued screw up. if they would have suspended Rice, 8 games initially, none of this would have been an issue. so they are putting on a show.
just imagine if they wouldn't suspend Zeke. some people believe he did it that's all you need. (I am not going to say if I do, or don't). then what would everyone say, that brady, the NFL poster boy got suspend for a deflated ball. yet Zeke, not suspended. specially after all the talk regarding DV. HOLY COW. that would have been a PR nightmare.....so their only choice, that was less bad than the other, was to suspend him. and deal with all the complications they have today. they knew legal actions would be taken. they knew this was coming, but from their perspective, they are showing they are serious about DV. what they didn't expect was Jones reacting the way he did. and now add fuel to the fire......the national anthem. the unhappy networks. the unhappy sponsors.
the implications of the zeke case are huge. very huge. legal, law of the land huge. if NFL succeeds, in becoming a power above and beyond the law for criminal cases, then every company can do the same. their code of conduct becomes larger than law. can you imagine that. this is not going to end anytime soon. the other part of this is if Zeke succeeds and wins his case, the subsequent law suit, would be the NFL having ruined his reputation and the money it cost him.
one stupid mistake...and the saga continues.
