Why is the NFL commiting Suicide?

No kidding. It is obvious the NFL is afraid of public opinion. But not necessarily the opinion of the fan as much as special interest groups that would start an onslaught of negative press against the league. There is a point of view in this country which wishes to shut down any dialog by the opposing views. And now that America has moved away from truth in the press to got cha journalism, the league, and perhaps more specifically Goodell is genuflecting to that platform.

Ray Rice essentially walked and Zeke is dying for his sin. Instead of just coming out and saying they made a horrific mistake with Rice, and they had the video and were hoping they could skate and the video not come out (Goodell), they now take a posture of toughness against a guy which was not even charged. Now the rebuttal is there just wasn't enough evidence but the DA was either biased or said they didn't think they could get Zeke. But they felt there was something there.

But who put out that information?

The league.

So instead of seeing this woman who made the claims as the same as Nina Sharavan, forcing her to prove her claims and not just someone who wanted to get paid. The league is moving the opposite way for public approval. They will wreck this guy, besmirch his reputation, and kill any opportunity to maximize his earning for the sake of an autocrat and tyrant who appears to believe he is the NFL.

This was said in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, etc.

It was said in ancient Rome. It was said in Victorian era England and so on and so forth. All your statement says is you are aging.
Well the fall of Rome ushered in the dark ages so those guys were right

I predict that within 2 decades football will no longer be the USA's #1 sport. I think the main reason is the concussion problem. I think baseball or basketball will move up to #1 at some point.

I think the way things happen exponentially as we “progress”, “advance” in this world.

I think 2 decades is way too long an estimation.

This thing has been pooping the bed for a few years already.

I say with 5 years there will be enough black eyes and quote simply, “lack of interest”... it’s gonba take another massive hit!

Agreed! Makes no sense...I know some may not agree, but I expect MLB to have a surge in ratings and attendance next season due to NFL troubles.

I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion that one declines and the other one benefits.
Baseball has too many games and each game can be long and boring. (Not for me, but for the masses)

I think sports in general are dying. The sports are certainly contributing to the issues with their various displays of greed, but with the advent of technology and more access to having fun that kids have these days, sports are taking a backseat for our future generations. It comes down to the decision they have to make: watch sports, play video games, or listen to literally any music ever made in the history of music via YouTube. In essence, kids have too many options and watching sports simply isn't as fun as most other choices they have at their disposal.

Agreed.

My 4 year old niece has already been given her own phone by my brother and his worthless wife. She spends so much time watching random losers on YouTube play minecraft while being overly animated wearing bright colors and using loud noises as sound effects.

God forbid my niece have any interaction with her parents or anyone else.

It's ridiculous.

Well the fall of Rome ushered in the dark ages so those guys were right

Various plagues, nomadic tribes from around the Caspian and Black Seas, and the violent anti-intellectualism of the church ushered in the dark ages.

When we are being repeatedly being invaded and sacked. pestilence claims a third of the population, and universities are burned to the ground and scholars killed systemically then let me know. The Romans I was referring to were contemporaries of Cicero which was about 1300 years before the dark ages.

I have been a fan since 1975.
I have read many post where the older fans are losing interest in the NFL,
and a lot of the younger generations are not much interested either.
We may watch Cowboy's games, but not other games or NFL shows.
The whole anthem protest thing and
Roger Goddells heavy handed treatment of Zeke are just taking the joy out of being a fan.
Don't understand Roger making an example out of one of the NFL's best young stars on the NFL's
most popular team, just plain crazy!
Will continue watching the Cowboys, but don't really care much about the rest of the League.
How do others feel about all this ?
Just sad to see America's once most popular sport going down the toilet.

Growing up, I use to live for football and football season. I couldn't get enough of it. Of course that was waaaay before social medial, the internet, etc etc. We now have 24-7 access anything NFL but every time I log on to see what going on in football all I see who's protesting what, what players are being suspended for drugs, conduct, late hits or domestic violence, etc etc. I'm just sick of it all. The NFL is nothing but a stage for players to piss and moan on anymore. I'm one of the "older fans" that's rapidly losing interest in something I use to live for. What's worse is that years ago I could NEVER imagine life without football. Now I'm almost preparing for life without it. It's not even a way to get away from our everyday problems anymore. It's like a fricken news channel.....

I think the two are mutually exclusive. I loved playing baseball, was scouted by Boston in high school and could name entire rosters as a kid, but I cannot watch baseball any longer. It's become a regional sport and will do well in that regard. The last two World Series were exceptional in quality of games and national appeal but it will never hold the national interest it once did.

I believe football has to evolve and solve its managerial problems but it's not going anywhere anytime soon. It's not the protests. That's a temporary thing and television is going through a sea change in that ratings for everything are down.

Football is oversaturated right now but they will adjust.

Finally everything is relative - the lowest numbers on anything football related still blows everything else away interest wise.

All businesses must adapt and change and football will do the same and lest you may think it's in trouble now wait until the second half of the season and playoffs - the entire country will be tuned in as always.

Just like with any murderer, NFL or individual, if they would just start with themselves they could save a lot of innocent casualties.

Agree...the. rest of the league is garbage. Half the league tanks after 6 weeks for draft position.

Everything about the NFL is just too negative anymore. There are never any "feel good" stories like the Astros winning their first world series. Every week it's who was fined or suspended. The three hours of the Cowboys game is still enjoyable, but I have no desire anymore to watch any other game or anything on NFL network. I have no need for any NFL news anymore.

When Jerry Jones fired Tom Landry there was supposed to be a rampant revolt that saw Dallas lose it's entire fan base.
I had at least 20 relatives swear to this.

Then that team starting winning and they became a fan of Aikman and Emmitt and Mike and bought those jerseys and tickets and fell in love all over again.

If Dallas makes the Super Bowl this year, the ratings will be the highest they have EVER BEEN.
Scalped tickets will go for the HIGHEST prices they EVER have.

Stop trying to sell water to a well folks, you aren't Jerry Jones.

I'd call Dak a pretty good feel good story with his mom dying of cancer and him being one of he better guys out there just giving her praise and thanks every game.

The Astros are a joke and literally made racial jokes about Yu Darvish during the world series. Feel good, naw.

Well it's enjoyable until the referees get involved in it.

The anthem think doesnt phase me in the slightest, it will peter out by next year. Zeke is also an ephemeral occurence, wouldnt lose interest over that. I am concerned about CTE though and feel a twinge of guilt watching men hit each other hundreds of times knowing some will put a bullet in their chests over it a couple of decades later before they even get to 60. Just hoping the NFL doesnt go the way of boxing. Heavyweight boxing used to be gigantically popular in the US.

You don't know that " some will put a bullet in their chests" why a bullet and not a toaster dropped in the bath tub,a fist full of downers and a slit of the wrists,a couple propane tanks with the valves knocked off down in the basement when you finally decide to take up smoking or just a head on with a garbage truck at 75mph,,,? your melodrama was entirely to thick to wade thru ,,,I'll leave you with the tried and true: hanging yourself from the garage rafters with the cars idling with the doors closed after drinking a gallon of antifreeze,,, SHEESE,,, I guess the weak minded are also completely uncreative,
So, you draw statment analysis from Seau and that rat snit Hernandez ,,,,great work Colomboo_O
