Why isn't Joseph Randle starter material?

With all the talk about drafting a running back high, and the possibilty of trading for AD, why is it that Randle isnt starter material? at worst we could form a rbbc between him McFadden and Williams... do we absolutely have to a one bell cow type of back?

Randle will be in his 3rd year, so we have had time to develop and bring him along, last year he should some flashes with the limited opprotunities he had.

I see McFadden as a CJ Spiller type, good change of pace back. possible KR also

Williams, I'm not sure what he is, the FO seems to really like him, probably a good compliment to the other backs.

He's in the mix as all the running backs. But if we get a back in round 1 or 2, pretty sure 'Boys want him to start.

Randle is Chris Johnson/Jamal Charles sized with Roy Helu talent. Hopefully he can improve, but I think he can't be trusted to stick around due to him being an idiot off the field.

I hope he can turn the corner, though, because he's key on special teams as a gunner.

Randle should be in the mix, along with McFadden, Williams and whatever back we draft. Just because we get a back in (hopefully) the first or second round doesn't mean he should be handed the starting job. Throw them all in there and may the best man be the lead back.

The only way the backs we have shouldn't be in the mix is if we trade for he who must not be named.

NOTE: At one point in time, I would have had Dunbar in this mix because I liked his speed and quickness. Strength was always a question that he would have had to overcome, but now I think vision/awareness is too. He's got the ability to make big plays in the open field, but that's all.

I think Dallas is looking for a guy who can carry more of the load not running back by committee. Many good RB will say it takes them a few carries to get into the groove and that is hard to do when you are constantly coming out of the game.

I dont think Peterson going to be a boy unless the Vikes release him out right and he takes a massive pay cut to play for his dream team, we'll see if that happens. If it does, I'm all for bringing him in on a contract that does not hurt the boys if he doesn't pan out. We can add him toi the mix and see what we end up with. Peterson and McFadden would be an awesome one two punch in the ground game. Add Gurly to the mix and WHOA! that could be deadly. Maybe Romo only throws the ball 5 times all year.

As far as Randle, he wasn't a first tier running back cause we had Murray, who was. He will get his shot this training camp and preseason, if he cuts the mustard he will see plenty of action. Personally I am excited about McFadden, Randle, Williams and Dunbar, three of these four should be good enough for a great RB corp and a positive ground game.

But Randles off the field issues continue to plague him and hurt his chances. Hes got a lot more to overcome than any other back we have or would draft.

He starter material, but not reliable due to his off the field issues. You don't want to center your offense around a player that could be suspended at any moment.

Just my opinion.

Maybe because he's not that reliable off the field. That and he doesn't look that big to me. Do you really want to start a back who can't handle the majority of the carries?

Right. We know he can start, but can he finish?

Will he get in trouble and leave us hanging? Will he get hurt trying to carry the ball too many times because he is too smallish?

I think he can start, but the better question is: Can he finish?

Pretty sure if 'Boys draft a back in rounds 1 or 2, their intention is for him to start. Fans may think otherwise. They'll give the rookie every chance to do so in camp. They know what they have in Randle already. But hey, if Randle outplays everyone in camp, ok.

For what, his YPC? He benefited a lot from coming in for Murray. That's not me saying he didn't improve from his rookie season, he really did. I thought this guy was on the verge of being cut, but he bulked up slightly and seemed to have a little more burst and better vision.

But nothing about him is starter material. He worked his way to be a good backup in this league, that is all. Competition is nice, but as of now, he's just a backup until proven otherwise. No one should have the expectation that he'll ever start in this league.

What we do know is that Randle is an off the field moron.

On the field, he was decent with limited opportunities but we have a limited sample of his work.

Many times back up or relief backs come in a few plays and look like rock stars with fresh legs but when they get the chance to carry the load, they look pedestrian at best.

We would only really know if he was given the chance to start but his off the field issues will circumvent this possibility in all probability.

There has to be some trust issues from the coaches or the guys as dumb on the field and he can't grasp the playbook.
