Why not a trade for a backup QB?

This may be what Jerra and co. may be planning, trading a lower level draft choice and/or maybe a player thrown in and get a Mike Glennon type backup
..does this not sound like a typical Jerra move ?

how many teams have spare back up QBs they are willing to trade? If they do trade for a veteran back up, it will be a Kellen Moore quality back up.

Not many teams really have a quality backup and if we are giving up a decent pick, I would want a player to groom as well. Dallas thought Kellen Moore was better than anything on the market and truthfully, they were probably right. I worry about players that are happy to accept a backup role, I want a player backing up Romo that has aspirations to start in this league. I would be open to trading for Garrappolo.

"Traditional" backups seem more likely to just resign with their own team if the option is out there.

I'm not interested in trading for a Romo backup, only his replacement which is through the draft in early rounds, too many times over the years this franchise goes into the draft looking to fill backup or situational roles for players because they think their team is actually closer than it really is...

The offensive coaches are fine with Kellen Moore being the backup to Romo this year and that is likely how
it will turn out. I do think Cowboys will draft a young QB but, not until the 3rd or 4th round unless they do
a trade-down and pick up another 2nd.

It's several months before the season kicks off.
So much goes on between now and then with FA, the draft, OTA, camp, massive cuts, etc.

Last year, I think the league-wide consensus was that Dallas was bringing in fairly decent QB backups (not starters).
The result wasn't good but I'm sure they will be active again.

They also want to see Moore in a full offseason.

Probably price point.

For what Tampa is asking for Glennon, it might make more sense to draft the QB of your choice, and mold him to your system. Younger, cheaper(full ELC contract) and probably the same potential.

I think I might give #34 for Garrappolo.

Well, lad, FA QB with skills are in short supply. And, haven't we tried this before? Witness the two veteran backup QB who bit the dust, as you Yanks say, last year.
No, old fellow, if we pick a QB it has to be through the draft. One we can develop and groom behind Romo, whose time is just about up in the NFL.

That would be tempting. He's looked pretty good in the limited snaps that he's taken, but then again Cassel looked pretty good when he played there too. The patriots are desperate for a first round pick, maybe the 34th pick would be close enough? I don't see it happening, but it's an interesting thought.

one thing i have found to be pretty consistent is that when someone calls jerry jones "jerra" they have a pre-conceived notion of how he will act and the stupid things he will do - but he seldom does them yet the people who think "jerra" stupid will continue to lob out things like this as "typical jerra" even though it's not really...typical.

Garrappolo is NE future. They may want our 4th for him. At that point we are better off taking Wentz or Geoff.

Brady is on contract longer than Garrappolo. NE has time now to get some value for Garappolo especially in a season where they don't have a first and then draft another QB later for their future.

If Brady plays for more than two more seasons which seems very likely from all indications then Garrappolo will likely hit the market anyways.

A possible 2nd for him then. But I like to give more a second shot and draft a qb in the mid rounds .

Rather draft an heir apparent than get fleeced in a trade for a quality backup who may or may not ever amount to anything more (e.g. Garrapolo).
