Are you kidding? Let me get this right, we could have signed a playoff-proven, younger, stronger legged clutch kicker for 500k more? I just don't get it.

"Hey, why pay Vinatieri that extra 500k? We can get that older, weaker guy that blew it in the playoffs for almost the same money!"

Yikes, fellas.

I'm with you too. What we're going to pay the kickoff specialist (or lose from having Vjagt actually kickoff) will make the 500K worth it.

Did you read the posting someone put up here the other day? It was JJT on the subject.

I can't remember the exact quote but something to the effect that both Jeff Ireland AND BP wanted Vinatieri but that JERRY didn't want to pay for a kicker.

Now why Jerruh doesn't want to pay for kickers is anyone's guess, but that was the gist of it.

Get over it.. and for someone with a weaker leg.. he sure does have a better % hitting 40+ FG than Adam V.

Of course he is...I'm just saying if you are paying almost the same amount of money get the Porsche instead of the Corvette.

But that's just it...he paid almost the same amount for a guy who has less of an upside. Good thinking, Jerruh.

Why do people act like Vanderjagt is the worst kicker we could've signed? He has better percentages all around that AV. He missed the kick in the playoffs now he is worse than Cundiff. Give me a break.... he's a star compared to what we've had. Shut up and be happy already! His kickoffs will be no different than Cundiff's.

Maybe he just didn't want to come here?

Supposedly he was unhappy with the way Bellichick and Pioli treated his contract over the past few years. Maybe he thought it would be more of the same with Big Bill?

Sometimes its not just the money.

I have to agree- even if we had had to pay an extra 1 million it would have been worth it. Just plain DUMB. Now I am saying we got a top kicker- but Vinni made winning kicks in the SB- MULTIPLE TIMES. And he is better at kickoffs: why would that NOT be worth an extra million?

How do you know Adam V wanted to play here? People assume the real NFL is like Madden and you can just get anyone you want with no repercussions...and speaking of blowing it in the playoffs..if were are just going to go by last year and Vanderjagts last kick...well then Adam V blew a kick in the playoffs against Denver too.

First off, I'm not acting like he's the worst kicker we could have signed...he just wasn't the best. Making kicks under pressure is the difference between the Vinatieris and the Scot Norwoods of the world. He is better than what we've had...but is that saying much? That's like me saying I am the best snowskier in Thailand. Don't tell me to shut up...this is a forum and I'm using it. Cundiff's kickoffs were real boomers, weren't they?

Does anyone have contract info for Vinatieri? I was under the impression that it averaged out to ~$3 mil per year over 3 years, for a total of ~$9 mil. We got Vanderjagt who is statistically better across the board for ~$2 mil over 3 years, totaling ~$6 mil.

I just don't think Vinatieri (or any kicker) is worth that $3 mil, we got the better value. Especially considering the crap kickers we've been putting up with lately. You just can't make some people happy...

Great point here. No one remembers that.

Fuzzy brought this up in another thread, but it has been proven over and over in baseball that there is no such thing as "clutch".

Given a large enough sample size, every player will eventually perform to their norms in any given situation.

And, as mentioned, Adam V shanked one in Denver too.

And you know that how?

For all you know Jerry was on the phone with his agent every day for a week.

And actually we were mentioned as suitors in several places.

I dont think Dallas anticipated how quick the other FA kickers were going to be signed untill there were only a few left.
