Why people continue to defend the Jones is mindnumbing to me

Ken, you know I respect you.
But they got nuttin behind Tyrone.
If they don't do something real creative, it's going get real ugly , real fast...
I think they HAVE to do something now.

It is irresponsible to go into the season with these two guys as you only option.

I think Tyler can play it but I am not crazy about it bc i think he is a + LG day 1.

We will see. The good thing is we have a couple of weeks to figure it out.

Jerry/Stephen have built the perfect business model in the last 20 years starting with what Parcells brought and then adding McClay. Draft well, luck into a starting QB, and surround them with just enough pieces to remain competitive and relevant each season. As long as they had Romo or Dak healthy, the team will win enough games to avoid having consecutive losing seasons. The only way the Jones family will see heavy criticism is if the team was bad like 2000-2002 but with this structure, that won't happen if they keep lucking into a decent QB.
I have always said, if they did not stumble into Romo and Dak, they would be right their with the Deadskins as the laughing stock of the NFL for the last 25 years.
Even so, one of only 3 teams the not to go the the NFCC game in the last 25 years.

is mindnumbing to me.

How they have handled the OT spot since last season ended is a case study in their ineptitude. Tyron Smith is a great LT, when healthy. He's never completely healthy. Banking on him to be healthy for a full season is always a risk. It should surprise zero people, including the two nitwits running the team, that Smith got hurt....... again.

They decided the other starting OT, Collins, was too much of a headache, making too much money to bring back. They had Steele in the wings and they thought he made Collins expendable. Only problem is that even with his flaws, Collins was easily one of your 2-3 best OTs on the roster. With, again, the other top OT being a complete injury risk every season. Nevertheless, they sent Collins packing.

So they had Smith and Steele. And then the depth chart was basically Ball, a guy who had never taken a NFL snap. They sat on their ***** in FA when there were decent OT options out there in FA. They threw a draft pick in the later rounds at an OT from North Dakota. Jerry and Stephen looked at each other and believed they were in fine shape at OT.

They weren't. Most fans have been saying this for two months. But Jerry and Stephen plowed ahead thinking everything was great. And then what was entirely predictable, Smith getting hurt, happened and what the Cowboys have right now is a turnstile in Ball and them forcing a kid with a shoulder injury from North Dakota to try to play through the pain and not damage his shoulder further.

And many yahoos on this board defended the front office on how they handled the OT spot. Geezus.

Oh and guess what? They are doing the same thing with the WR spot.
Jerry has restructured Smiths contract several times and that's why they have had to hold on to him. Heck I wanted Dallas to trade him 5 years ago when he was worth something.

Yep, Jerry has painted himself into a corner.
He put himself into a situation where he has no options.
Hope he does not get taken advantage of in a trade.

I mean, he has a ton of options.

A bunch of FA and Trade options are still available. They drafted a guy in the 1st round with the idea he would be the succession plan.

They could put Martin at RT and flip Steele back to LT and McGovern at RG. (i actually am warming to this idea a lot)

Those are all correct.
I guess I should have said he has way less options now than he had at the beginning of free agency.

No clue ...... But I know two posters who will for sure be here any minute saying " and your still a fan .... Who's stupid now"
The Jones's have been a blight on this once great franchise
And they'll add a "I used to coach high school. I bet you didn't do anything ya loser" to it.

Not in full defense mode here, but....
To be at least a little fair, they did use their #1 draft pick on.....an Offensive Tackle.

They mostly defer to Will Clay and his staff on personnel issues and needs.
People are so used to piling on the Jones' that they leave out the main personnel guy.

I would've liked to have kept Collins. There were rumblings that he was starting to have back issues. Maybe they saw a Tyron situation in the future and said no thanks. I have no idea. Fwiw, I notice Collins has missed much of the offseason in Cincy due to...back issues.

Everyone is a pro personnel director here. It's comical.

So when they sign Fisher or Williams or trade for the kid from NE....then what?

You will have to recant this post?

Relax. Not many teams have contingency plans for losing franchise LTs for extended periods of time.

You didn't listen to Jerry. He just said we've been lucky for years. It's time for his offensive guys to man up. If they don't head chopping will commence.

Of course you do.

This team cant do any wrong in your eyes.

Swing tackle was a problem prior to and after the draft. Now it is a MASSIVE problem because this team refuses to be proactive ever.
I think posters like Ken really believe that Jerry or co will think badly of them if they says a single bad words towards anything Cowboys related.

It's a weird issue to say the least.

Jerry just came out and said that they like their guys and sticking with them. Time to earn those millions.

They should have had their OT already on the roster. They knew this was a risk that Tyron Smith wouldn't stay healthy. But they took a high risk approach thinking they could just keep a bunch of slop/rookies on the roster and somehow that would work. And now they are scrambling.

But I am not surprised you are making excuses for the Jones' here. But that will change when you see our LT getting whipped. Then suddenly, the Jones didn't do enough. LOL.

Perhaps you missed who they drafted in the first round this year?

I am sure you complained about that too.

Tyler Smith was NEVER INTENDED to be the swing OT for Tyron Smith. He was a long term option to replace Smith down the road but he was never supposed to be the guy to replace Tyron if he got hurt in 2022. Shoot, they stopped even giving him snaps at OT once OTAs ended and McCarthy admitted they wasted time in OTAs giving him snaps at OT when he should have been getting settled in at OG.

Trying to sell Tyler Smith as the contingency plan at LT in 2022 if Tyron got hurt is a real reach.

Yes.

They do.

And the entire LEAGUE and everyone's AGENTS now know this. Do you not see the problem with being reactive? Now the asking price for anyone just skyrocketed because the FO would rather do TV shows than their job.
