Why settle on Romo?

Yes, that's all we have this season but why are we limiting ourselves to him as our future QB? Haven't we learned our lesson with the Quincy Carter/Chad Hutchinson/Drew Henson/Vinny Testaverde/Drew Bledsoe/TonyRomo carousel?

Let's not disrespect the QB position any longer/ Let's get a legitimate prospect here. I'm not talking ex-baseball players, old men, or late round scrub. How about we actually trade up to acquire a legitimate QB prospect in the first 10 picks? I know this is a novel concept but it kind of worked with Troy Aikman.

I have been on that bandwagon for a long time now, but the usual response is but, but, but, bus driver, but but, but, Trent Dilfer.

The bus driver Trent Dilfer argument requires a shut down defense. Baltimore was one of the greatest ever. We're not even close.

If Bledsoe walks away then I wouldn't mind signing Trent Dilfer as a backup

I hear you and agree 100%. Ever since BP whispered the words bus driver, an overwhelming amount of people started preaching the same thing.

I mentioned that yes it is in the real of possibility that you can win a Super Bowl with a Trent Dilfer type player, but you have better have one of the best defenses ever assembled.

I think it is easier to come across a pretty darn good QB than it is to assemble an all time great defense.

Clearly those who had earmarked this defense as a great defense were a bit off.

Yes i hope this will finally be the draft where we use a pick on a QB prospect. Don't get me wrong, i hope Romo works out, but in case he doesn't we have no backup. Bledsoe's gone for sure, and we'll bring in another vet, blah blah, but we need a young QB in case Romo fails to meet potential.

I don't think we can afford to spend as much as we would need to to get Quinn, though it would be great to see him wearing the star.

I don't really buy the Stanton or Brohm hype, Jordan Palmer will not be Carson, Drew tate, eh who knows.

I like Jamarcus Russell out of LSU, he has the rocket, he shows good accuracy, he can throw very accurate on the run, and he's big enough to get out of the initial rush at times. I think especially with some good coaching he could be a great QB, and i would love to see his name called for us on draft day.

However, lets face it, if Parcells is here, i do not see us drafting a QB, and he will probably draft defense, though if he does that i will shoot the TV.

If we do not draft a QB, we need to go OLine every pick first day.

I say we go for Matt Schaub from the Falcons. I may even give up a first to get him. Of course I would wait to see how Romo does, but if he falters, Schaub should be the target.

I don't expect Romo to be Tom Brady, but then no one expected Brady to be Brady. That said, what are our options? We realistically need to see what Romo is about. He has some flashes of brilliance mixed in with some "what the hell was that?" plays. He does have a little something to him though. I am interested to see how he does with a full week preperation as a starter, on the road, tough defense in Carolina. That will tell us a lot about him.

Hey James,

Hope all is well with you.

I imagine you probably know what I think but for the record.....

If you don't have a QB, you don't have anything.

Drew Brees is hindsight 20-20 type thing....but, it would of been a solid move

Don't get me wrong. I don't know next years draft well enough to know if there is a legitimate QB prospect worth taking. I agree that we shouldn't draft a guy in the first 10 picks just for the sake of doing so. He has to be legitimate QB prospect that most people would agree has great potential.

However, I'm sick of applying this bargain shopping mentality to the most important position on our team. There are 4 positions in football that you don't go cheap on- QB, LT/RT, CB and DE.

I know we've seen BP draft only D in the first round, but I would be SHOCKED if we didn't take an offensive player in the first round this year. What would he take on D? Our LBs seem to be taken care of. I don't think a FS would be the first round pick. DL?? Maybe, a replacement for Fergie, but he's playing great and assuming he sticks around, I don't see it in the first.

If BP is here and goes LB again in the first he should be fired on the spot.

In my mind, the Matt Leinart move was a 20/20 hindsight thing. Any guy that talented who drops to 10 let alone 8 should have gotten a phone call from Jerry saying "What do you want for him"

Easy to say that now, but investing millions on a guy coming off major shoulder surgeory when you have Bledsoe and a young up and comer like Romo is not an easy thing to do. If Dallas didnt have Bledsoe they probably would of pulled the trigger on Brees or Culpepper, but that is a moot point.

Lets see... Where to start.

  1. We had Drew Bledsoe whom is top 5 all-time in several stats
  2. Cowboys thought they had their future starter in Tony Romo and didn't need a 3rd multi-million dollar wheel
  3. Spending millions of dollars on a QB that might not even be able to be a backup because of a serious shoulder injury
  4. Had to complete with other teams and spend more money to get something you already had.

There are four reasons it made sense just off the top of my head.

Many of us have been saying this exact thing for the past 5 years now.
