Why should I stay a Cowboys fan?

Jones is a very good outlet to project anger at I guess. I just cannot bring myself to care. Him being PT Barnum was obvious 20 years ago and people act like it's something new.

If people want to pretend that we cannot win in spite of him then have at it. Doesn't make it true and if it makes them feel better who am I to begrudge it.

It's pointless to be angry at the owner. It's his team. But I used to like him a lot more because winning was a priority to him. It clearly no longer is. He now judges success by team market value. So I can understand why some fans are angry. Because it's not really a debate anymore. He does not prioritize winning championships any longer.

My guess is that when he first acquired the team, he thought winning would lead to a growth in his investment. Now that it's no longer a necessity, he doesn't have to prioritize championship caliber teams.

Brother, we were once a proud and elite franchise. You’re right, now we are just one of 20 mediocre teams and even though we’ve had just one GM we have the same result they have. Since our last Super Bowl, other elite franchises like the Steelers, 49ers, Giants, and Packers all continued to compete in the playoffs and win Super Bowls. We’ve done nothing compared to them for the 26 years and counting.
The giants ...I can't explain that. The pack had 2 ALL TIME GREAT qbs. The steelers had a HOF qb. The niners have gonevlinger without a title than we have. Stop thinking about the glory years past. The salary cap has taken care of that.

Dude, are you high ? You realize the Seahawks have been in 2 Super Bowls recently and won one ? And last year the Bills were 13 seconds from beating the Chiefs in KC to go to the AFC Championship game ? And the Falcons were in a Super Bowl recently against the Pats ?

In the last 25 years the Cowboys have won 3 playoff games. In your list, the Jets, Bills, Seahawks, Falcons, Panthers, Raiders, and Chargers have all won more. Oh, I saw a stat that in the last 25 years only 3 teams have won fewer playoff games than Cowboys. So it looks like a lot of other teams do prioritize winning.
Let's see...Seahawks suck suck suck, hit it had a 5 or so yeR run, maybe worst team in nfl right now. Falcons suck suck suck Matt Ryan shows up, one sb appearance, back to suck suck suck.bills suckck suck suck since 1995... thats a lot of sticking. They hit with a a qb and just now are winning again, but you seemed to forget that 25 straight years of sucking.im this SALARY cap era....teams are gonna come out of nowhere and get to the big game.....and just as quickly go back to sticking. Its exactly what the cap is designed to do. Im not high, I see things as they are.

I plan to stay a Cowboys fan as long as I can stomach it. For the longest time, I've been a diehard Cowboys fan. However, I just have to ask. Why should I stay a Cowboys fan? This is the first time I can remember truly questioning it. However, the statements Jerry made about essentially wanting us to be talked about being more important than winning guts me as a young fan. I started watching this franchise in about 2000. I gobbled up everything Cowboys, and I still always want to stay on this board. That said, what's the point of cheering on a team when the owner cares more about the Forbes Bowl than winning the Super Bowl? It's clear now why he makes the moves he makes. It's clear to me now why he won't do what it takes to win, such as a proper GM, better coaching, and why it's always one side of the ball that's atrocious and one side that's not.

I'm writing this thread to ask for help. Help me to understand why I should stay a fan. I plan to do so just because I don't have another team I'd support, and I enjoy this board. Overall, I still very much enjoy the Cowboys, and I like our players. However, Jerry's statements felt like a slap to the face when I've taken every insult from other fans. I spurned the Eagles, whom most of my family supports. I spurned the Broncos when my favourite animal is clearly a horse. I spurned the Texans when they started to stay a Cowboys supporter. I've happily taken the insults. And for what? A team who is run by an owner who couldn't care less about winning?
I didn’t bother reading further then the title. Don’t let the door hit

Again, I'm NOT quitting the Cowboys. I'm more venting my anger with what Jerry stated and asking for help on why I should carry on as I plan to do so as a Cowboys fan.

Also, for those who say "You're a quitter", I've been one of the most positive fans on this board. I've always tried to stay positive no matter what. I'm still trying to stick to the Cowboys. Also, how would you respond to Jerry's comments if you were in my shoes having never seen us get to the NFC Championship game?

Cool - move the finish line. Why don’t you move the finish line to 6 months…lol. Then ignore the real history.

I have always been a rabid Cowboys fan and always will be. I will never follow another sports franchise the way I have followed this one. Having said that I find that I am less interested every year in what the Cowboys are doing. They are no longer compelling. They are boring and predictable and they are losers. There are more interesting and compelling NFL stories and I find myself drawn to them more than I used to be.

Anger is not a choice.

Well, maybe you should have read the whole OP because I stated multiple times that I'm not quitting. I was, however, questioning and venting about how insulting Jerry's comments were to a fan who's never seen success with this team.

I'm staying because I like our players and coaches. However, I'm not going to be defending Jerry anymore. I've defended him quite often and tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. No more with that having read his insult. As someone stated, which helped me, this team has been around before him, and it'll be here after Jerry. I'm too heavily invested to go anywhere, so I'm staying a Cowboys supporter.

There's a monster of a difference between a cowardly "I'm leaving" thread and a simple venting thread. Venting threads and posts are done all the time. That is all this is.

We're not Cowboys fans because of Jerry Jones. However, you unfortunately do not have all the history before Jones to build your fanship on.

I would just say it's still about the team, about the players, about the star and not about the owner. We hope the best for those things despite the owner.
I second what gimme states here and identify with the words. He's right--having all the history and glory before the Jones era to build a fanship on. and there is much. I am old, and remember the day of the Ice Bowl watching on my 23 in. black/white Zenith as the overhyped Green Bay team outscored Dallas in positively brutal, anarctic conditions. Thankful that Pat Summerall was there with field reports. From that day I was hooked.
Try to ignore the Jerry's antics and his Romanov feckless family of owners. The Cowboys, IMHO, are worth following.

It is part of the issue.
Yes, but not even close to the elephant in the room. Jerry treating average QB's as if they are the 2nd coming is the monster of the issue. The team is set up to fail if the QB doesn't play out of his mind.

First Jerry is in the entertainment business first and foremost. Many fans are there for the singular football thing. The NFL product has changed its entertainment. They present as football but it’s the big show. It irritates fans who are there for the football they were conditioned to love.

Rustoleum is in Cowboys purgatory right now and wants to have it make sense. He’s heard of the greatness of the past and what it took to get there and now sees a FO that seems to take steps contrary to the old formula that worked………I also don’t understand all the moves that are being made but not understanding them and still being a fan of the team isn’t mutually exclusive.

I just want to see the next generation of new fans get the joy and satisfaction that we have had with this franchise
