Why should I stay a Cowboys fan?

I don't think so, no. I didn't eat for three days when the Rangers eliminated my Hurricanes in Game 7 back in May. I get it.

All fans want the team they root for to do well. It's a fair and reasonable expectation. But sometimes it takes time. It's hard to win in this league. People forget that the Packers went almost 30 years between Super Bowls and the Chiefs went 50. It's a cruel reality for most fans to accept.

I've been rooting for the Cowboys longer than I've been able to read. I know my fate is to root for this team for better or worse. What you do from here on out is up to you.

Oh I agree, but the comments were silly from him and were rather insulting. It's a bit like a musician during a concert telling the audience that they care more about their sales than the fans. Obviously, the fans know that, but it's still insulting as the fans are the ones buying the music and going to the concert.

More like the concert promoter, not the musicians. That's the distinction for me. Jerry's a promoter. He's a businessman. He's not the athletes who are out there trying to win. He's not the coaches who are out there trying to win. He'd be irrelevant to me if he didn't have a major role in getting those players and coaches. Frankly, that's how I felt about longtime Cowboys owner Clint Murchison. He had nothing to do with my fanship, and neither does Jerry except resentment over his interference with allowing my team to be great again.

Try to pay less attention to the man behind the curtain and you'll be more happy. Honestly, I don't attend games and I don't buy any Cowboys merchandise (some of my family does for me, though). That's the only I care to show Jones how I feel about his ownership of my team.

This is the first time I can remember truly questioning it. However, the statements Jerry made about essentially wanting us to be talked about being more important than winning guts me as a young fan. I started watching this franchise in about 2000. I gobbled up everything Cowboys, and I still always want to stay on this board. That said, what's the point of cheering on a team when the owner cares more about the Forbes Bowl than winning the Super Bowl? It's clear now why he makes the moves he makes. It's clear to me now why he won't do what it takes to win, such as a proper GM, better coaching, and why it's always one side of the ball that's atrocious and one side that's not.

I'm writing this thread to ask for help. Help me to understand why I should stay a fan. I plan to do so just because I don't have another team I'd support, and I enjoy this board. Overall, I still very much enjoy the Cowboys, and I like our players. However, Jerry's statements felt like a slap to the face when I've taken every insult from other fans. I spurned the Eagles, whom most of my family supports. I spurned the Broncos when my favourite animal is clearly a horse. I spurned the Texans when they started to stay a Cowboys supporter. I've happily taken the insults. And for what? A team who is run by an owner who couldn't care less about winning?

Again, I'm NOT quitting the Cowboys. I'm more venting my anger with what Jerry stated and asking for help on why I should carry on as I plan to do so as a Cowboys fan.

Also, for those who say "You're a quitter", I've been one of the most positive fans on this board. I've always tried to stay positive no matter what. I'm still trying to stick to the Cowboys. Also, how would you respond to Jerry's comments if you were in my shoes having never seen us get to the NFC Championship game?

I have not given up. That said, as a young fan whose never tasted success, it's difficult, especially when Jerry made the comments he made. It's easier for those who have seen success because you know what this franchise is capable of doing. I haven't been so lucky.

So, am I supposed to just pretend to be happy? Especially when I've never seen a championship and Jerry saying what he said? I'm staying a fan, and I made that crystal clear, and I also mentioned this being a vent. However, I feel very insulted by the statements Jerry made when I've tried to be as positive as I can with this team. I have taken every bit of mockery that can be asked of me to take with a smile. I have taken every bit of ridicule that comes my way. I try my best to be the best fan that I can be, and, to me, American Football is synonymous with the Cowboys. However, Jerry saying what he said was incredibly insulting, in my view. Oh, and I even went so far to put Cowboys stars on my suit to demonstrate my loyalty to the Cowboys.

Brother, we were once a proud and elite franchise. You’re right, now we are just one of 20 mediocre teams and even though we’ve had just one GM we have the same result they have. Since our last Super Bowl, other elite franchises like the Steelers, 49ers, Giants, and Packers all continued to compete in the playoffs and win Super Bowls. We’ve done nothing compared to them for the 26 years and counting.

Making up your own mind is one of the only true freedoms you get in life, decide for yourself. Fandom is usually tied to something we love. For me it was love of family tradition. Many happy memories were made from a huge family gathering with the game on and cheering on the Cowboys.

I was fortunate to watch the Cowboy’s 90’s championships each year of my high school (and the NFCCG in 1995). These past few decades have been largely disappointing because of the lack of real playoff success. It’s definitely less interesting to watch a Cowboy’s game when the front office has basically declared mediocrity relevance is good enough to fill the coffers.

You do not have to treat your fandom like some religion. There are already idiots on the board calling you a quitter though you are still going to tune in to the games. Your fandom is whatever you make of it. My fandom has slowly become much more casual because the team is just not as interesting. You vote with your time and attention/focus. Take it easy and figure out how you want to experience football.

Thank you for reading the whole OP. I appreciate that. I also appreciate your comment. I think I'm probably going to try to be a bit more casual with it. Still tuning in and posting on this board and all. However, how can I get upset about something I expect? Also, lowering my expectations is probably a good idea. As stated, I have to have somewhat low expectations for Bournemouth, the English Football club that I support, because they are very small. Sadly, I have to do that with the Cowboys it seems. I like our players and coaches. However, our FO is why I'm having to try to lower what I expect from the Cowboys.

hmm, so I guess the Jets, Dolphins, Bills, SEahawks, Browns, Falcons, Panthers, Raiders, Chargers...... you know, all the winning teams, those teams have real GMs that really prioritize winning?

Dude, are you high ? You realize the Seahawks have been in 2 Super Bowls recently and won one ? And last year the Bills were 13 seconds from beating the Chiefs in KC to go to the AFC Championship game ? And the Falcons were in a Super Bowl recently against the Pats ?

In the last 25 years the Cowboys have won 3 playoff games. In your list, the Jets, Bills, Seahawks, Falcons, Panthers, Raiders, and Chargers have all won more. Oh, I saw a stat that in the last 25 years only 3 teams have won fewer playoff games than Cowboys. So it looks like a lot of other teams do prioritize winning.
