Why should I stay a Cowboys fan?

When people defend Jerry I point out that he has to do better. He needs to make us as successful on the field as he is with his bank account. I’ve been a fan since 1965. And still here.

Jones is a very good outlet to project anger at I guess. I just cannot bring myself to care. Him being PT Barnum was obvious 20 years ago and people act like it's something new.

If people want to pretend that we cannot win in spite of him then have at it. Doesn't make it true and if it makes them feel better who am I to begrudge it.

I plan to stay a Cowboys fan as long as I can stomach it. For the longest time, I've been a diehard Cowboys fan. However, I just have to ask. Why should I stay a Cowboys fan? This is the first time I can remember truly questioning it. However, the statements Jerry made about essentially wanting us to be talked about being more important than winning guts me as a young fan. I started watching this franchise in about 2000. I gobbled up everything Cowboys, and I still always want to stay on this board. That said, what's the point of cheering on a team when the owner cares more about the Forbes Bowl than winning the Super Bowl? It's clear now why he makes the moves he makes. It's clear to me now why he won't do what it takes to win, such as a proper GM, better coaching, and why it's always one side of the ball that's atrocious and one side that's not.

I'm writing this thread to ask for help. Help me to understand why I should stay a fan. I plan to do so just because I don't have another team I'd support, and I enjoy this board. Overall, I still very much enjoy the Cowboys, and I like our players. However, Jerry's statements felt like a slap to the face when I've taken every insult from other fans. I spurned the Eagles, whom most of my family supports. I spurned the Broncos when my favourite animal is clearly a horse. I spurned the Texans when they started to stay a Cowboys supporter. I've happily taken the insults. And for what? A team who is run by an owner who couldn't care less about winning?

Again, I'm NOT quitting the Cowboys. I'm more venting my anger with what Jerry stated and asking for help on why I should carry on as I plan to do so as a Cowboys fan.

Also, for those who say "You're a quitter", I've been one of the most positive fans on this board. I've always tried to stay positive no matter what. I'm still trying to stick to the Cowboys. Also, how would you respond to Jerry's comments if you were in my shoes having never seen us get to the NFC Championship game?

Hopefully, no one has a personality in their family like Jerry Jones. However, I would ask that you pretend that you do have someone like him in your family for a moment. Think of him as a crazy uncle who keeps breaking into the liquor cabinet. Then I would ask you this question:

"Would you quit the family you love simply because of your crazy uncle?"

Practically every fan is not related to a sports franchise by blood or marriage. Even so, most fans develop a deep personal bond for their favorite team. Some fans will even confess they love the Cowboys despite not having any real life ties to anyone associated with Dallas. An inner attachment exists that is commonly felt as family.

Every fan has a choice. Stick with their team through thick-and-thin. Or don't. No one is stopping anyone from making up their own mind. Not even a crazy uncle should be able to stop someone from moving on or staying put.

Realistically, it won't matter either way. Still more valuable than the sun as far as monetary value go. Seems like you already realize this team is as concerned with that side of the biz as winning itself- for better or for worse

Just enjoy the Cowboys for what they really are, just another form of entertainment, that is what I do.

For example, I just recently found out that I have a new baby on the way!!!!

So, you see, the Cowboys are just a very insignificant part of life in the big scheme of things, just entertainment for 3 hrs a week.

Well, and Stephen who won't spend anything. I liked when Jerry would make FA splashes. Just once or twice a year. At that time, I felt at least the Cowboys were trying. I like our drafts. I want the FO to at least try for a big FA or two as well as improve in the draft. At least then, it feels like they're trying. The Peters move was a good one, and I'm just asking for a bit more than that. That's not too much to ask, is it?

Well I feel for u, as I got to experience the landry era, and the jimmy era, both were fun and exciting, and it was all about winning back then.

As for what u should do, since you like the team and board, you just need to lower your expectations to jerry level lol.
And if by some miracle they do better than expected, then thats cool.

I think now days we all get too much information on players, coaches, salarys, trades , draft etc. Way more than in past eras.
And then you have a clown owner like jerry who want to say stupid stuff to the media, just for fun or for him to feel important.

Just ignore him and what he says, and enjoy the season for whatever it turns out to be.

Also wouldnt hurt to pick 2 other teams, afc or nfc, that you like or you think will rise up this season , and root for them along with the cowboys.
Try to watch some of their games, and if they do good, you will enjoy the season more.

This season I will root for the chargers and TB, maybe cin and buffalo.
The nore teams you have an interest in the more u can enjoy the season ! Dont put all your interest in just one team.

In my time I’ve seen the Cowboys lose in the Super Bowl twice against the hated Steelers, I’ve seen them beat the Broncos in a Super Bowl, and then many years thinking they would never do it again playing some god awful football.
They then reel off 3 Super Bowls in 4 years.
Someone is going to come in and make this team champions again. I don’t know who or when, but it will happen again.
And when it happens, it will be much sweeter because of the long drought. Just hope I’m above ground when it happens.

This is a tough question and just to make you feel better i had and have that question too and not only in this part of my life. And i guess some of us here do have the same question also.

Well, being a fan is about an emotional relationship with your team. Its not based on logic. You doubt because you approach by logic. JJ says this does that, this is not ok for you. But JJ is not your team. Your team is something inside of you, a picture you have of it. And thats where your emotion stemms from. Remind yourself about this.

But be also honest to yourself. If your emotions are not there anymore there is nothing wrong to end your fandom. And dont listen to those who call you a quitter. Its just important to justify your decission in front of the mirror - to yourself. Others dont live your life. They wont have to take the consequences of your decissions. Its easy for them to judge you.

We all have the same problem in a normal relationship. You love somebody. And even if he or she hurts you the emotion (love) you feel doesnt change. You may be angry at her/him or whatever. But the deep love stems from something else. Even if you decide to break up - maybe because there were some real reasons you couldnt stay together (like money, big distance, kids, etc..) - the feeling of love will stay.

Remember that with being a fan, there are no such real reasons to break up, like you have in a realitionship. You are in no way dependend on your team. Your fandom ist purley based on emotions ans therefore virtual. With that said, you dont lose nothing to still stay a fan. Even with a drunken clown like JJ on top of the franchise. Again the guy has nothing to do with your team. He wants to be a part of but he is not. And he never will be.

And of course being a fan means that there will be times of joy but also of doubt, fear, anger and so on. But isnt that exactly why we all are searching for something to be a part of, being a fan ? How would life feel if everything would be the same every day ? Boring and depressing. Change is what humans need.
