Why should I stay a Cowboys fan?

I plan to stay a Cowboys fan as long as I can stomach it. For the longest time, I've been a diehard Cowboys fan. However, I just have to ask. Why should I stay a Cowboys fan? This is the first time I can remember truly questioning it. However, the statements Jerry made about essentially wanting us to be talked about being more important than winning guts me as a young fan. I started watching this franchise in about 2000. I gobbled up everything Cowboys, and I still always want to stay on this board. That said, what's the point of cheering on a team when the owner cares more about the Forbes Bowl than winning the Super Bowl? It's clear now why he makes the moves he makes. It's clear to me now why he won't do what it takes to win, such as a proper GM, better coaching, and why it's always one side of the ball that's atrocious and one side that's not.

I'm writing this thread to ask for help. Help me to understand why I should stay a fan. I plan to do so just because I don't have another team I'd support, and I enjoy this board. Overall, I still very much enjoy the Cowboys, and I like our players. However, Jerry's statements felt like a slap to the face when I've taken every insult from other fans. I spurned the Eagles, whom most of my family supports. I spurned the Broncos when my favourite animal is clearly a horse. I spurned the Texans when they started to stay a Cowboys supporter. I've happily taken the insults. And for what? A team who is run by an owner who couldn't care less about winning?

Again, I'm NOT quitting the Cowboys. I'm more venting my anger with what Jerry stated and asking for help on why I should carry on as I plan to do so as a Cowboys fan.

Also, for those who say "You're a quitter", I've been one of the most positive fans on this board. I've always tried to stay positive no matter what. I'm still trying to stick to the Cowboys. Also, how would you respond to Jerry's comments if you were in my shoes having never seen us get to the NFC Championship game?

Depends on what kind of fan you are. Detroit has fans, right? So do the Jets. A better question would be why should someone just getting into the NFL be a Cowboys fan? Now why you should remain a fan.

I've already come to the realization that the Cowboys aren't winning another SB in my lifetime, and I'm in my 50s. Not while the Jones boys are running the show. But after all of this time the Cowboys to me are like a brother that I know will never be successful. I'll just hope for a miracle.

And frankly, it's the sun parts of this team, and the fun that I have on this board that keeps me interested in the Cowboys. Oh, and now having my fursuit with Cowboys decals on it. Also, some of the things I have seen Cowboys players do have become very helpful when I'm at cons such as fistbumping everyone at the start of a con like Dak does is something that has been very helpful and well received. Frankly, Romo gave me hope watching the Cowboys, and Dak, along with Parsons, has helped keep the flame alive.

Ask yourself what keeps fans in Detroit or Cleveland engaged.

It’s all about following and supporting your local and or regional team regardless their level of success. Much like you would your Alma Mater. It’s just more fun when you win.

I saw the Cowboys play in, and win, multiple SBs as a kid, so I can't relate to being your age and never seeing them come close. I probably would've been frustrated after 29 years of nothing, especially not living in the Dallas area and having no other Cowboys fans in the family, that I'd have moved on. Not saying YOU should - that's up to you - but I'm fed up with how the team is managed and don't have faith in the Jones boys. I get it.

But I've been a fan too long - I'm going down with the ship, hoping to see one more magical run before my time is up.

I used to be crushed for the whole week when Dallas lost. Not anymore. I’m over the loss 10 minutes after the game. Have low expectations because this team isn’t doing anything any time soon. Go enjoy watching football and take it as entertainment. I really don’t see this team as a Super Bowl contender this year either, but I will watch every game this season like every season.

My substitute is my kids. It’s more important to watch them play football and lacrosse in high school and then next year when they go to college.

Maybe you should just go away and find another team if it's that bad. I became a fan in the Early years of Landry, not at the start as I was too young but in their 1st Super Bowl against the Baltimore Colts I became a fan. They lost that game last minute on a O'Brien kick. I could of jumped on the Colts wagon but alas I didn't. Don't always like the Jones's way of doing things but also can't change it either. I need no one to talk me into being a fan of the Dallas Cowboys EVER. I have renewed hope every new season on some level. I bellyache about them and their team with the best of them. It is not that difficult. You have to root for the Cowboys because it is in your blood. A person just can't change teams for Willy or Nilly.

So cheer for the Cowboys but follow the NFL story of the year at the same time.

to me, changing favorite teams is a major character flaw. I have all the same favorite teams I had when I began 5o years ago. That includes being a damn Knick and Mets fan. I would never change favorite teams. I may change my 2nd favorite team so I have a backup, but I never get the same enthusiasm

It's worse for the guys like me that have seen the championships and now 27 years of futility. Your feelings are normal given how it is now embarrassing it is to say you are a fan. The Jones family makes it so hard to root for these guys. For the people that say you are a quitter - screw them. Who cares what those chuckleheads think. Do what makes you happy. I am going to be a shadow Bills fan starting this season. I will never stop rooting for Dallas but I need a backup plan so I can enjoy football in January and not be bitter. I am going to say I think the arrow is pointing up in Dallas. McCarthy and Quinn are real coaches.

Following a sports team is not just about winning the big one (nice as that is), there's so much more to give you that warm fuzzy feeling, investment of time and emotion. Last year ended on such a massive low however I console myself with re-watching games (or highlights) such as Parsons utterly destroying the poor Washington QB and it makes me happy, gives me a smile.

I played golf in my teens to a decent level however my game started to slide when I had the pleasure of working full time and I slowly got that bit worse. I started to not enjoy the game, then started to hate it and quit at about age 23. I.......got........no.......joy.

Now, some have said to you stop being a fan but my example isn't to say do that, it's make an informed decision - do the small wins / the highlights / the hope keep you alive and wanting more? I suspect 99.9% of us accept that and keep coming back for our love of the Cowboys. Is that enough for you?

If you want to see an example of having no hope, have a look at my avatar. My football team have ZERO chance of the winning the league ever in my lifetime but they are dear to me. I have so many memories of traveling to away games with friends, getting soaked in the Scottish rain walking to the stadium, hugging friends and strangers alike with last minute goals. I accept they will never with the league (our wee version of the SB) but they are in my blood.

The Cowboys have been the same for me since 1984 too. They still give me joy, lots of it.

54 years a fan, I remember a time, when a regular season loss would sting all week till the following sunday, its not that way anymore, I'm numb to losing every year...I dont get my hopes up to high with this team anymore, back in 2000.... me and my brothers adopted an AFC as another team to root for, of course the Cowboys are always first, you might give that a try.

The AFC team I do for for is the Broncos when they don't play us.

First off, major shout out to ya for the era /time in which you became a fan and remaining positively loyal these last 22 years or so.
I think your questions are legitimate and whatever negative responses are highly likely coming from a fellow fan who enjoyed the 70s, 90s or both eras of success for this team as fans.

I have to tip my hat to people in places like Cleveland and Detroit and their loyal fan bases.

What's the current trendy saying or has it already played itself out..."You be you" and being whatever kind of fan makes ya happy, just be that.

It's a game and/or entertainment for the masses. You choose whom you want to support and how you want to support and don't worry about it.
