Why should we hire Deion Sanders?

CeeDee Lamb Likes Post on Deion Sanders
Lamb, who signed a four-year, $122 million contract extension this past offseason, is one of the most outspoken Cowboys. He also has a tendency to get the ear of Jones, who listens the most to those that he pays the most.

If Lamb wants Sanders, and Sanders wants Dallas, the math adds up.

While the Cowboys are still going to interview other candidates, there’s a real possibility that Sanders will take over the team he once played for (or, at the very least, be a finalist for the job). Discussions will continue between Sanders and Jones in the coming days.

With Jones wanting to make a splash and ensure that Dallas will remain the talk of the sports world, it makes sense to pursue the former Cowboys legend.

Sanders did a terrific job coaching the Buffaloes this season, leading them to a 9-4 record and producing a pair of potential top-five picks in the 2025 NFL Draft (Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter).

Jerry Jones is eyeing the next big thing, and no, it’s not just a flashy draft pick. The Dallas Cowboys’ bossman is all about taking Big D to new heights, and he’s looking to Deion Sanders to make it happen. ESPN’s got the lowdown on why Jones has got his eyes locked on Prime Time himself.

It’s not just about football anymore, folks; it’s about boosting the Cowboys’ brand to legendary status.

“Jerry’s 82 years old. He wants to win one more time with the Cowboys. He knows that the people he’s hired recently don’t have the spark that Deion has. He was there with Deion. Deion played on that team. Deion won a Super Bowl with that team.” Jones might actually be down to share the spotlight. “’I can share the spotlight with Deion,’” he said, recognizing that this could elevate the Cowboys’ brand to new heights. And the Cowboys’ brand might just become “bigger than it’s ever been” if Sanders joins the crew.

So, what’s the play here? Jones might just be ready to swallow his pride (just a little) for the chance to boost his legacy. Sanders’ star power could be the final ingredient in making the Cowboys a true, all-time powerhouse.

Cowboys legend Michael Irvin is pushing hard for Sanders to take over as head coach of the Cowboys in 2024. After a disappointing 7-10 season, the team fired Mike McCarthy, sparking rumors that Sanders could be next in line.

On “Speak,” Irvin revealed that Jones and Sanders had productive discussions shortly after McCarthy’s exit. Irvin shared a conversation he had with Sanders, who confirmed that, while the talks were positive, things weren’t moving fast just yet. Irvin shared,

“When I talked to Deion this morning, he said to me, ‘No, it’s not — I can tell you we did talk about these things, but Michael, that’s it. We can’t go any further with that,'” Irvin said of his conversation with Sanders.

“I was like, ‘No, no, no, I got a big mouth, I won’t go too far with it, but I appreciate you telling me that.’ Because that means good conversations are being held. Not just a conversation — good conversations are being held.

I'd prefer a pro football coach with experience, as opposed to Deion Sanders, whose only HC experience is at a college level (jmho). If the final decision is still Deion after conversations with other pro football HC candidates are completed, I'll be prepared to make that adjustment. A hasty decision on Jerry's part isn't something that would seem advisable, at this juncture.

If Jerry's decision might be arrived at by way of selling the Cowboys' brand, that wouldn't be a logical reason to hire Deion Sanders. If he elects to get advice from others first by talking to knowledgeable advisors, so much the better for doing far more reasonable consideration. It's not about the brand. It's about the team, first and foremost. A GM should consider the team first -- that's where Jerry needs to adjust his thinking, imho.

The Circus needs another clown.

It will mean that we have a genuine 3 ring circus that will generate more publicity and celeb news than every other NFL team combined:

Ring 1 - JJ and his family.
Ring 2 - Deion.
Ring 3 - Dak.

This could get so big that the team doesnt need to bother with football. Will be the #1 reality show on the planet.

Like lots of people here, my mind lives in the 90s. In the 90s, Deion was the only CB that existed in my mind like Shannon Sharpe was the only Tight End that existed.

But as a coach, he has done nothing. He was 9-4 this year in a lame conference. Im not expecting a miracle from him in his 2nd year, but if he's such a top coach.... why can't he elevate such an overhyped program with 2 Heisman candidates into at least a playoff birth? Making the playoffs is a joke now.... Arizona St turned around faster than Deion did.... and they didn't have a coach anyone cared about before this year. Maybe his 3rd year is his year, but the possibility of that is kinda dubious now with his 2 Heisman loverboys going to the NFL.

Also, we know picks 1, 2 and 3 are Sanders, Ward, and Hunter name your order. If Shedur goes to the Giants.... who's to say he can remain objective and without emotion sending Parsons and the full fleet against his son twice a year?

I say we hire Jon Gruden. He was my favorite coach in the early 00s. Ok maybe you can argue Martz, but he was a playcaller primarily. Gruden can REALLY build a team. Look what he did with Oakland and Tampa.... 2 black hole franchises at the time. Maybe he didn't "build" Tampa, but I highly doubt Dungy wins the Super Bowl with that 02 team.
Gruden hasn’t won a playoff game since 2002. He’s done.

Deion wouldn’t last a season here.

I would take Deion because he's the only alpha dog out there that can win 'despite' Jerry. He's the only one that can convince Jerry what needs to be done personnel wise. In other words, Deion will be given more freedom to shape the roster (get the groceries). It's challenging enough to get this team to play well despite the owner and despite the fact that so many teams still have Dallas, aka America's Team, circled on their schedule.

Not many can win with all of that. But one thing I've learned -- I wouldn't bet against Prime. Doing so is kinda like betting against a particlar successful businessman running for president (twice).

Would definitely give Deion a shot. If it works, great. If not, we were going downhill anyway until Jerry dies.

He doesn't do anything knee jerk or outside standards of led,

This should be helpful also...

The Cowboys can have a successful offseason if they prioritize retaining their own talent and use free agency as a way to regain some of the depth they lost last spring. If Dallas were to re-sign Dowdle, Kendricks, Lewis, and Odighizuwa, paired with retaining three of their non-starter free agents in Chauncey Golston, Brock Hoffman, and KaVontae Turpin, that would be an extremely successful start to the offseason.

Pair retaining that group with adding three or fourth depth players in free agency and selecting some offensive firepower early in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Cowboys could look like a playoff team again next fall.

How does Deion make Micah a better football player? Not better in dealing with his fame. But better technically.

How does Deion help Mazi or any other guy ranked 15-52 on the roster?

He’d be great for Diggs and Bland. But I don’t think he cares to get into the details of how to make players better for other positions.
Deion is a team manager type coach. He isnt really one to develop anyone himself

A problem I have with Deion right now is that type of coach is a staff builder. What NFL connections does he have

Of course he's done a good job but not good enough to lead such a high expectation franchise. You have to beat Sean McVay, Nick Sirianni, Dan Campbell, Dan Quinn, and Kyle Shanahan here or you'll be the punching bag in the Dallas media. Kinda an exponential increase in pressure for a coach with 2 years of significant experience coaching college (cuz nobody cares what he's done in Jackson State)
see people do care him winning on that level at jackson state launched him into Colorado and he took a very bad Colorado team and at least made them relative that is something and he's still building on it so don't say nobody cares your resume matters... That means he's making the proper steps but nobody saying we should hire Sanders but I don't think he's any different than what you thought was gonna be here you remember Urban Meyer, Bobby petrino ,Chip Kelly ,and Nick Saban, most recently they were supposed to be hot shot new age can't miss and they all failed and they failed hard they fell on their face....,

you never know when somebody like Sanders could end up being better than those guys he's used to the spotlight he's used to the criticism he doesn't care what people think... If there's anybody that can handle that part of this job is being part of the media onslaught it's deon Sanders is a media darling ever since Jackson state it's all been the same old prime time media frenzy good bad or indifferent he could handle that part he played for some of the best franchises in the NFL including here is the Dallas Cowboys the media here will treat him with respect probably more so than Mike McCarthy because he's one of those hometown heroes that was part of a very great part of the Dallas cowboy history..

i'm not saying you'd be a successful NFL coach as far as running the team goes but I can tell you this the media doesn't scare him this is not too big for him if you think that you're not been paying attention..

By the way I think it's hilarious you don't think that we could beat Dan Quinn, we just beat Dan Quinn with a backup roster ,and a backup quarterback ,and nearly beat him again with a worse roster..:lmao:

so somehow Dan Quinn scares you where have you been Dan Quinn is the ultimate choker his MO from every stop he's been at recently has been to blow games has been to choke and not show up for the biggest games and you're worried about that dude Kyle Shanahan his armor's been weakened look at what he did this year you take a few players away from him and they failed they failed as hard as any other coats that loses players I mean you listen these guys like you're scared and like Deion is afraid of them it's just weird,

I'm not promoting Deion Sanders and that he's going to be successful here but he can handle the pressure that i know for a fact...

Hell no. Besides being an immoral piece of trash his head coaching record in the regular season is 117–112.

That is a winning percentage of .511 which is even lower than Jeff Fisher. Let that sink in for a while. I swear Cowboys fans crave mediocrity and retreads.
Deon has never done drugs or drank alcohol, not even once in his entire life. I'm not sure if you know that the word basically means one who violates moral principles, particularly those established by God.
