Why the Jonathan Mingo trade could haunt Dallas in 2025

Know what, I'm gonna take a wait and see approach before I throw out the baby with the bathwater. What if Mingo suddenly starts finding his way? Then as time goes this trade looks different. I'll be critical if and when it calls for it, it will be well earned, just like credit will be well earned if it succeeds.

It was not a good trade because 4th round picks are valuable trade assets. You literally could get a top flight number 2 receiver for a 4th rounder. That being said Mingo is the second most talented receiver on our roster and looked good against Washington the last game of the season. He is also is a highly graded blocker that fits in with what appears to be our new offensive philosophy.
We don't know yet. Let him play. Like you said, the last game he looked like he was getting better.

Lol, it's not like he's going to get anything better from Dak
I disagree there. Typically Dak flaws and all has gotten great years with some guys. Amari Cooper, Dalton Schultz, Randall Cobb, Cole Beasley, Gallup, Cedric Wilson…all got paid well catching balls from Dak. He’s typically receiver friendly.

His lack of separation might not help him though. I don’t think he’s gonna have to worry about ground balls with Adam he’s gonna have to worry about getting the ball at all.

Part of me feels like they didn’t like this draft class and wanted to trade for someone they liked. It doesn’t justify I honestly don’t know why they did it.
We're all guessing here...but there's no way the scouts have relayed that information to Jerry/Stephen/McClay in the beginning of November when those scouts haven't even completed their work on the draft class. So many things can change b/t then and pro days.

If you're saying Jerry/Stephen watched a couple games on TV and some highlights on their own and came to that conclusion, I guess anything is possible.

That’s kind of what I’m saying….if they don’t address receiver in the first round….they may not at all. Mingo is their day 2 guy. Not my opinion but what I think they feel.
Im not anticipating them taking a WR tbh. Class isnt great. Tet falling to 12 is the most like bet for them taking a WR. Golden could be a possibility too if they like him that much. But Im in agreement that if it doesnt happen at 12 it might not happen at all

The reason why I say it’s a bad trade really has nothing to do with Mingo. It’s just 4th round picks are valuable trade assets that you hold on to for maybe a trade up or you get a stud in the final year of his contract.
I agree. But now we can't change it. So what we can hope for is that he lives up to the trade. Or comes close. At one time Mingo was highly rated coming out of college. I'm willing to wait before I cast stones and issue a final verdict. When the times right I'm sure all of us will be either praising the trade or talking about the terrible aspects of it.

So win they win it is Rush, but when they lose it is Dak?

No, I am not defending Dak. I am just pointing out a flaw in that thought.
He’s literally trolling lol.
You look at the small picture.

Team vs Team.

Typical Cowboys fan. The Eagles are your Super Bowl while the Super Bowl is the Eagles Super Bowl.
You are the one who said Rush wins I didn’t lol. Just pure stupidity lol.

What QB did Mingo play with after he was drafted? It matters alot. Know what, I can't get mad at the Jones bunch just yet. They actually tried and traded for a guy that was supposed to be maybe the best wr in his draft class when he came out. How can we be mad at that? What I get upset about is them doing nothing at all. That's even more damning. I don't mind swinging and missing. But it's derelict in duty to do absolutely squat and never even make the phone call.

Yep and personally? I don’t want a RB or receiver at 12.

Now Mcmillian at 12? For sure I’d be down with that’s equivalent to Lamb falling to us at 17. You don’t pass it up.

If Mingo doesn't get targets and produce, this will haunt the Jones clan all year.

Why the Jonathan Mingo trade could haunt Dallas in 2025
3/1/2025

The new league year begins in a few weeks, which means many transactions will occur throughout the NFL. Trades will almost certainly happen. However, one trade in particular the Dallas Cowboys made last season may have lingering effects at the worth possible time.

The trade in question is the Cowboys acquiring Jonathan Mingo at the trade deadline from the Carolina Panthers for a fourth-round pick in this upcoming draft. The trade caught many off guard, likely because the Cowboys aren’t usually active during the deadline. Secondly, the compensation given for Mingo was laughable.

which person is responsible for making the trade ?
Is this a Stephan jones thing or Jerry ?
Not sure what they were thinking but another waist of a 4 th when they have been very good at drafting in the 4 th
Maybe with the new coaching staff he shows us something but we definitely could have used that pick this year

No what I’m saying is the noise was this was gonna be a weak class for quarterbacks and receiver. It’s been said for some time now. Doesn’t mean someone won’t be a great player or you should write the draft off….but you know what this class is before it even ends in college.

Maybe a waist. Maybe not. By years end we will have the answer.

McClay should be involved. At least to find out who is available and at what price.
However, we do not know to what extent he gets involved other than identifying players in the draft, FA's, and from other teams' practice squads. Trades should be included.

Agreed
Do you think they took a chance on Lance so they wouldn’t have to pay Dak if he had worked out ?

Mingo could very easily be a better version of Noah Brown. Only an idiot would have an issue with that. Well worth a 4th round pick.
