Why the Jonathan Mingo trade could haunt Dallas in 2025

So basically they decided to go cheap at the #2 WR spot and its backfiring horribly

my problem with the trade was why a sure 4th rounder, when we could have (should have ?) offered a late round "conditional " pick that could have evolved into a 4th rd.
pending Mingo's seasonal contribution.

Even Deebo Samuel was dealt away for just a mere late round pick. ..but of course Niners wanted more to get rid of that massive contract for a gimmick WR.

But i keep figuring that McClay and Cap Boy will wheel and deal to trade back to regain that 4th round during the early part of the NFL draft at some point.
 
Waste of a 4th round draft pick for a non-starting WR on a team that builds solely through the draft…also hinders their ability to package picks to move up in the draft.

Just a poor use of a finite resource.

I still don't understand harping over a day 3 pick as if it's a catastrophic move that is crippling we'll regret for years to come. Yes, you don't want to throw away picks for nothing but this is much different than throwing away first round picks.

i thought and assume it was more of Jerry pushing McClay for a mid season trade - just for the sake of trading - .. but even Jerry doesn't who Mingo was and the draft value round of this pick.. that goes thru McClay and Co.

Yeah this is the issue with the deal. You can find physical traits guys who need development in the mid rounds pretty regularly. Why not keep your 4th and grab one of those you can control for 4 years instead of trading for a guy you only get for 2 years?

The league is filled with players built like dez. What the league doesn’t have is guys who can play like dez.

Pretty much. I dont think the scouting is that bad as is, but they miss so often because they refuse to spend anything in free agency. The goal should be to add enough depth to your roster so you dont have to lock in on a specific position in the draft and can go BPA.

yeah it was but this is another past mistake, maybe shotty can make him a decent wr.
If not try trading him.

They cant correct or change or redo past mistakes, just have to try not to make any more mistakes
like this.
The miami people ? or was it Jags? could not make him work.MM didnt really try much,
and rush was the qb and he didnt know mingo and wasnt used to him.

Lets see how he does after a full TC here with our new coaches.
