Is it because he is a 'boring' pick? Games are won and lost in the trenches. I'll take boring substance (Tim Duncan) over the glitz and glamour any day.

If it wasn't @ #4 slot I dont think fans would be as negative about Bosa.
Reports are even Leon Lett isnt in his camp [a coach] his a good player,
not a play maker.in college is one thing the pros another animal.
He'll be pretty good by all accounts

A top pass rusher is not a "boring pick".

If he flashed more upside, I think he would be more "popular". He just appears to look like a pretty good player who has hit his peak.

Kind of hard to get excited for a player that has pretty much shown you all the tools in the toolbox and still is not exactly a dominant force.

Plus, he looks disinterested and well, stoned, a good bit.

The best way I can sum up Bosa is this.

If you did not really "need" a DE as desperately as we do, would you think he is worth taking just to take him because he is going to be that good as a professional?

So assume Gregory was fine and Lawrence completely healthy, would you figure he is just too good to pass up?

Because spending the #4 pick on a DE that has the upside to average 8-12 sacks per year doesn't appeal to a lot of people...as it shouldn't.

If we were in our usual 8-8 draft position and a guy like Bosa was available in that range I'd be very happy. Not at 4th overall.

And Tim Duncan is 1 of the 10 best players to ever play his sport. That's a pretty horrific analogy.

Dane Brugler has his rated that high and still says he may not hit double digits in sacks. IMO Bosa has the upside of Greg Ellis but may already be maxed out. That is fine in the mid to late first round but there is no way I use a top 5 pick on him.

I believe the op received his answer. I will state it again. If we was at 18-20 then fine. The 4th pick is a top premium pick that a franchise hopes to not be at again for a decade or two. I'm sure as Hell not going to take a guy who isn't elite. Yea he was good in college but I just don't see what people like about him. At the pro level I say that he will be at tops 8-10 sack guy. The only couple I see worth that pick is wentz, goff and ramsey.

What do you see that shows you he just about hit his peak and that he has shown you all the tools?

If Bosa were actually Tim Duncan-esque, there would be talks of him hitting 25 sacks just cycling between a couple of basic moves, not struggling to break 10.

Human nature. If our draft pick was #12 the crowd would be lamenting how the team has no chance at a true blue chipper like Bosa.

He is a technical player who does a lot of work to get the job done.

His athletic testing numbers are not at the top of the line either. It just seems like he is self made.

If it makes sense, he looks almost like he had to labor to be as good as he was in college and even that was not always all that great.

Probably because he's white and look red neck. Scared of getting another Chris Long or end up with Greg Ellis 2.0. Scared of his family history of busts. Think he is maxed out, slow and can't bend the corner.

Personally I like him and think he can be very good to excellent DE in the NFL. I don't know why people think he's already topped out at age 20. Did we think that with Tyron Smith? Nope. He's been productive and disruptive at very high level every year. Yeah, he doesn't have that bend around the corner speed like Gregory, Ware but there's more than one way to skin the cat. Strahan, Watts, White, Allen and even Hardy weren't know were their "speed". Furthermore, DEs who can't play the run are merely 3rd down specialists at best and is absolutely no good at goal line and short yardage.

I'll be happy with him at 4. He's either my day 1 starter at RDE or plays heavily in our rotation. Definitely help collapse the pocket and prevent QB from stepping up. The LBs behind him will also be happy because he will hold point of attack instead of vacating a giant hole when other DE runs himself out of the play.

Yeah, he's got a motor. But unless you got talent and have that feel for pass rush you are not going to make as many plays as he has during his career at Ohio St.
"Not all that great"? Really?? He leads the nation in TFL in the three years he played at Ohio St! Come on.

I don't know where you are getting this information, but it is just completely wrong.

He was not even in the top ten in the nation in his final season.
