Why the massive dislike for Bosa?

One other thing about Bosa. He played on some extremely talented Ohio State teams, this past class in particular is just insane.

I know it sounds unfair to hold that against him, but there are plenty of examples where players from star-studded programs like that don't manage to find their fit in the NFL.

Argument can be reversed. Because he was double and tripled teamed his teammates really benefited from him.

Would Hall of Fame DE Bruce Smith have a spot in a 4-3. Buckner could be that type of football player on the next level. His length and ability to find the correct angle in a short space is uncanny, that could translate into a lot of production no matter the scheme.

Could Buckner be our Fletcher Cox? I know many of us would love to have Cox. Very similar draft profile....was considered somewhat of a tweener, versatile to scheme. Size about the same. If Buckner can become for us what Cox is for the Eagles...sign me up.

It's funny, but early on it seemed like that is the guy people were saying he was similar to....thing is Allan was pretty athletic and I think besides the great motor had a good burst off the snap. Now no one is talking about him like a comparison to Allan. Heck, if he could be Jared Allan, I would take him all day.

Their measureables are almost identical, including their 40 time, vertical, broad jump...while Bosa has a faster shuttle and 3 cone.....Allan only put up 13 reps of 225. Thing is...Allan was a fourth rounder.....while we are talking about #4. If Bosa has a Allan type career, I think everyone here takes that.

He mostly gets his results vs the Penn St's and Maryland's and Illinois's of the world.

The Hurries are so low that I would hope there's just some discrepancy about how to quantify Hurries. How does a DE only have 4 hurries in an entire season where he also gets 13.5 sacks? (albeit none vs ranked opponents) How is a top player not living in the backfield vs Western Michigan? Concerning.

I think the odds are high DE is the pick but not a fan of Bosa personally. I didn't think he showed up much on video and it matches up with how he shows up on the stat sheet.

That all said, I made this same kind of argument years ago against Ware when the discussion was Ware vs Merriman. Ware produced very little vs average-to-ranked opponents. We see how that worked. Doing the same review of Watt's college work would not suggest he's capable of being the best DL in football. Buckner was as equivalently productive as Watt vs ranked opponents. It's ultimately not about how they were in college. It's how they project in the pros and how they'll be used.

I understand that this is the usual response to going from 13.5 sacks to 5 sacks last year but he will be going against NFL tackles and they too can double him as well.

If he is so good to which he required the attention of the opposing team to double and triple team him constantly that should free up his teammates to make plays. Doesn't that count as success. He still put up very good numbers despite being doubled and tripled teamed.

That hardly makes sense. Cushing came into the league and went to the pro bowl. He started getting hurt just like he did in college. That's not a plateau as much as a cliff.

And I also question the notion that eastern method or similar training regimens are all that rare in high schools nowadays such that Cushing and Bosa could be some rarity. Particularly with some state's and their football factories. All the major texas cities have them for example. Heaven forbid prospects be well prepared.

Cushing was also a 22 year old senior LB with an extensive injury history that weighed 25 lbs less when he was drafted. About the only comparison is that they are white guys that play defense.

I like Buckner, but for a massive man he plays small. There are some embarrassing moments in his tape--particularly vs. Michigan St--where he gets double teamed and demolished. He doesn't seem very strong or overly athletic. From what I saw, he made a ton of plays exclusively with one (albeit impressive) swim move. I'm worried he is a bit of a one trick pony.

He makes a ton of tackles however, and is involved in a lot of plays. One thing I like about him vs. Bosa is I feel his effort level and desire is higher.

Does he fit in our defense? I don't know
