Can't say that this player loss bothers me. Wilcox is one of the least instinctive players I can recall in Dallas on the back end. He improved this year to be an average player. The one thing that they lack that needs to be added is someone who can lay the wood. For 4M per, the Bucs can have him.

As far as the S position goes, we're only really losing Church's leadership. Time for Byron to step up. The combination of Heath, Frazier, and a draft pick should be an upgrade imo.

No, we've got to get a bona fide starter. My choice would be Antoine Bethea because he can still play but his age should keep his cost down, which is the only way Dallas would consider him.

Oh Happy Day!

Dallas managed to hide him well last year. Just well enough. :oldcouple:

He is dynamic. I just don't know what position he plays.

They said the same about DWoodson when he came out, I figure it would be pretty easy for him to play safety, especially since he has played it before.

I am just concerned about the number of holes we have, we don't have enough picks to replace them.

You can only get so much from the flea market.

Bethea already signed with Arizona. A competition of Heath, Frazier, and a draft pick should do the trick. I want to see Byron Jones take over the leadership void left by Church.

Didn't see that. Thanks.

I still disagree with you on Heath, Frazier and a draft pick, unless we're going to use our first-round pick on another safety.

I guess if we're going to do that, we need to look at what starter we're going to lose in 2018 and spend our first-round pick on someone to replace him.

I don't mind losing the guys we've lost so far because I didn't think any of them were special. But I hope we don't purposely put ourselves in a hole in the secondary so that we can force fix it with the first few picks in the draft. I want us drafting the best players regardless of their position.

Well, that's bad news, I really was coming around and becoming a Wilcox fan..so our two starting safety's went to Florida, crap. Atleast we have Heath! right....?

Yeah, I don't care about Church but I wanted to keep Wilcox. He's an ascending player.

I thought it was important the Cowboys retained atleast some combo of 2 out of the 4 cbs/s, however its clear the Cowboys don't want these players that badly. If they did they would have priortized keeping them. Perhaps this is the Cowboys saying the secondary played poorly when it mattered most and we are ready to get fresh faces in, while not overpaying our guys that let us down..

Its interesting how everyone was ready to move on from the whole group headed into 2016 and now they're irreplaceable. They were a solid group that didn't give up a ton of big plays, but also didn't generate a lot of turnovers. The draft is deep with corners and safeties and there are still some decent options available in free agency that probably offer similar productivity.

I think they would like Carr or Claiborne back, but on cheap deals.

Isn't that the truth.

He was one of the worst "angle" safeties the Cowboys have had in recent memory. He could light someone up, but it was a crapshoot with him taking the correct angle to bring down the ball carrier.

Church getting 6.5 mil/year
Wilcox "up to" 4.25 mil/year

Looks like the front office knew what they were doing when they re-upped Heath last year and got him for less than 2 mil a year.

With the NFL salary cap going up, players are getting paid like they haven't before. To put this in perspective 15 years ago Darren Woodson signed a 5 year 20 million dollar deal as one of the leagues top safeties.

What Wilcox got is what I thought Barry Church was worth...

Don't mind this one. The fact that he cleaned out his locker in Dallas was a pretty good indication he was gone.

For a guy I thought wouldn't make it out of camp last year, he did well for himself.

Honestly, given the team was likely to lose two Safties and possibly two CBs this offseason, we didn't protect ourselves enough. We just got lucky.

It'd have been worse, too, if we didn't hit on Brown.

Tactically, going RB and injured LB at #4 and #34 didn't make a lot of sense. BPA is one thing, but teams need to try to make need coincide with best available when they can.

I would still like one of those players back as well and I think it gives us more flexibility throughout the 2017 draft.
I probably would too.

But watch if we don't do it and sign nobody else how Stephen Jones will maintain we have flexibility anyways.
