Yeah, I saw him do something simular with Mike Ditka once. Ditka wouldn't shut the hell up and Tom gave him what for.

Seriously ABQ? You saw him fling around at him in a similar way? Don't remember that one.

Again guys, I'm not at all saying that Haley was in any way threatened, etc. I just get tired of Parcells getting a free pass, and anything he says or does gets swallowed as gospel and people yuk it up with him.

I still say, it is not conduct becoming of a head coach and it is NOT something you see very often. Probably a hand full of times in a 20 year span.

I'm not saying fire the man, not even close. I'm saying can someone at least challenge him on it? If not that, how about challenging him on his close to the vest, don't lose the game approach to football?

Ok Waff, now be honest with yourself. The coach you have at the bottom of your replies. Mr. Landry. You ever see him do anything like that? I say again, name the coaches you have EVER seen do that? You will be able to name them on 1 hand and they will all be out of the league right now.

I won't say I agree with what he did, but I just think it isn't that big a deal. It was the heat of battle and Haley was about to cost the team a penalty.

I'm sure there have been other incidents like this in NFL history, but networks like to allocate 3-4 cameras just for all those "iso-shots" of Parcells going ballistic on the sidelines.

My all time favorite sideline shot was of Barry Switzer eating a hot dog at the Pro Bowl.

Yes and almost the same sort of situation. Coach Landry didn't initiate it, Ditka did but Ditka wouldn't back off so Tom gave him a push and sent him to the bench with a bit of animated language. Now, this was some odd thirty years ago so I can't say I remember every detail but I do remember the incident.

My thought here is that BP was worried that Haley was going to get a flag and screw up the field position - had Haley got a flag, how many of you would be saying that BP couldn't control his staff?

Push/punch - a very bad decision but clearly Haley wasn't listening to him. My issue is why is the receivers coach going nuts on an official without players or other coaches getting him away?
Another Coach DID get him away...Head Coach Bill Parcells, his boss. Haley should have been listening to Parcells when he got told to shut up and back off. Haley wasn't listening and Parcells was busy with the officials himself and did NOT have time for any panty waist touchy-feely discussion with Haley. He wanted him to back off and he wasn't doing it so Parcells had to take it farther than it should have gone. I Blame Haley for not listening.

rcaldw,

You picked the wrong week to broach this subject. If we lose to the cards next week, then ask it, you'll get completely different responses. lol

To me, it says, you players keep your composure at all costs, even though i can't.

LOL i can imagine it now. Parcells is in hte middle of a heated discussion with the ref. "Excuse me Mr. Haley could you please do me a favor and stop talking to the refs and give me some room kind sir. Thank you Mr. Haley"

This is an emotional game. I personally did not view this as Parcells lossing his composure. I saw it in exactly the opposite way. Parcells prevented, what surely would have been a penalty and a likely fine, by interceeding in a forceful manner. It's not as if it were done in an attempt to cause physical harm. He wanted to make it clear to everyone, who is in control of that sideline. He did that.

Parcells is going to be able to get away with things others can't. Is it wrong for him to use this? Great players and coaches have been doing that for years.

I just think it was a game that obviously ment a lot to both sides. This game is played with emotion. Often times, it's coached that way as well.

Not only have I seen it, I've replayed it about 20 times. Do I think it HURT Haley? Of course not. Do I think it is out of line? Absolutely.

I only have 1 question for you.

Name the NFL head coaches that you have ever seen do that on TV?

Roughly five years ago, Bill Cowers of the Steelers stepped on the field, arm cocked, to hit an opposing player who scooped up a block FG at the end of a tied game and scored the winning TD. I believe the league fined him for that.

Coaches I have personally seen grab a facemask of one of their players:

Mike Ditka
Buddy Ryan
Whatshisname (coach of SF 49ers after Walsh)

I'm sure this was just a thing where parcells was pissed, and for good reason mind you, and got caught up in the moment.

That's also my viewpoint. I commented to my friend during the game, that if you mess up on Bill's team, you'are gonna get cussed out. Bill don't care about your feelings, about damaging your confidence or anything like that. I was laughing like crazy. How many players did you see get cussed out yesterday on their way back to the sidelines: Rivera, Piles, etc.

Bill don't care. I'm sure those guys get cussed out on the regular all during the week. You can either take it or go to the owner and complain. I wouldn't want to be the guy who goes to Jerry and ask him to talk to Bill and tell him to stop cussin me out. They can do like everybody else, write a book about him after you leave. :lmao:

And, who's fault is it that BP intimidates the media? If they're scared ... call the police. Just like I told my supervisor Friday, you said you couldn't do anything about it so I went to someone who could. I'm not gonna just sit here and be content ... but I digress. :)

I would have loved to have heard the question today.

"Coach do you think your conduct toward Haley on the sideline is proper for a head coach?"

Would have loved to have heard his answer, but no one has the guts to ask it.

Me too. Even though I don't think the incident was the end of the world, I also think the media are afraid to ask the tough questions. I think they should have grilled him more on the play calling inside the 10 yard line (twice). They tip-toed around that too.

Sorry, Rcald. Too many people here suck Parcells' jockstrap to post this kind of stuff and not be flamed.

i dont think they are afraid of him, i just think they have figured out that he wont discuss certain things or address those types of questions, he's very good at blowing off things he doesnt want to talk about. so maybe they just try to ask questions that will give them something to write about, otherwise they come away with nothing. And they still have to peice something together.

Parcells has conditioned them, and now he has control. I dont think they are afraid of upsetting him because they are afraid of him, i think they are afraid of him making their job even harder because they know he can sit through an interview and answer questions in such a way that leaves them high and dry with nothing good to write about. And so its a little game they all play, one that ultimately works more in parcells favor, but essentially, he is holding all the cards cause jerry has given him that much control and basically backs him up with whatever he says.

Maybe Babe will ask him that question on the next episode of "Cowboys Huddle." :muttley:

That's the worst pre-game show known to man. It's pretty apparent that Parcells doesn't want to be there. Babe knows it and looks uncomfortable as heck.

Good, maybe Bill can spend more time telling his defense to sack up when the game is on the line. Instead of choking like dogs
