Will Jason Garrett hire a OC?

Bigger question is who will be our DC? I just hope our defense doesn't completely go to the crapper because of a new coordinator.
He's already on staff and I think he can be VERY good, in fact I think he stands a good chance at being better than Wade. He has experience AND certainly has alot more fire in his attitude than Wade does. In fact....it is my belief that he is being groomed RIGHT now, as we speak. I present to you......Linebackers coach...REGGIE HERRING!

Reggies creds...

Early career

Herring first served as a graduate assistant coach at Oklahoma State University in 1981 under head coach Jimmy Johnson. After one year, Johnson promoted Herring to coach OSU's linebackers, a position that he would hold until 1985. During this time, Herring worked with quarterbacks coach Houston Nutt, under whom Herring would later serve as defensive coordinator at the University of Arkansas. In 1986, Herring left OSU to coach linebackers at Auburn University under head coach Pat Dye. At Auburn, Herring helped lead the Tigers to three consecutive SEC titles from 1987–1989.
In 1992, Herring was offered his first defensive coordinator position, though he continued to coach linebackers, at Texas Christian University. After two years at TCU, Herring left to coach linebackers at Clemson University. Herring was promoted to defensive coordinator for the Tigers for the 1997 season, and held that position through the 2001 season. In 2002, Herring accepted a position in the NFL with the Houston Texans to coach linebackers, after having been on the job as defensive coordinator at Ole Miss for less than a month.[1] [2] Although Herring only held the Texans position for two years, he coached the 2003 league-leader in tackles, Jamie Sharper. In 2004, Herring left the NFL to become defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at North Carolina State University. His first year at North Carolina State, the Wolfpack defense led the nation in total defense after ranking 89th in that category the year prior.
[edit] Arkansas

In 2005, Herring left North Carolina State for a defensive coordinator position with Houston Nutt at the University of Arkansas. At Arkansas, Herring improved the Razorback defense in almost every statistical category. In the 2006 season, Herring led a defense ranked 44th out of 119 Division I-A FBS teams.[3] For his performance in 2006, Herring was a finalist for the Broyles Award, given annually the nation's top assistant coach in college football.
On November 26, 2007, after Houston Nutt left Arkansas to become the head coach at Ole Miss, Herring was announced as the interim coach of the Razorbacks for the Cotton Bowl.[4] The 24th-ranked Razorbacks lost the game 38–7 to 7th-ranked Missouri. He had said about the Capital One Bowl that his team needed to "...punch Mickey Mouse in the mouth." http://nfldraft.rivals.com/barrier_...pt=content.asp&cid=619613&fid=&tid=&mid=&rid=
[edit] Texas A&M

On January 4, 2008, Herring was named the defensive coordinator at Texas A&M by head coach Mike Sherman.[5] Herring took part in the Aggies' 2008 recruiting, and resigned after National Signing Day to become the linebackers coach at the Dallas Cowboys.
[edit] Dallas Cowboys

Herring was hired by the Dallas Cowboys on February 8, 2008. He currently works as the team's linebacker position coach under head coach, Wade Phillips. With the help of his tutelage, the Cowboys led the NFL in quarterback sacks (59[1]) during the 2008 season.

Why is everyone sold on Garrett being the next HC? Is it because of Jerry and his stupid loyalty, or your homerism of Garrett being a Cowboy?

Jerry needs to sell seats next year and if Garrett is the HC that ain't gonna cut it with the masses!

This offense could be so much more. He is so inconsistent with his play calling it's not even funny. Yeah we are at the top of the league in several stats, but those are empty. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to watch the Cowboys O and see that Garrett has no feel for the game. We never get into any kind of rhythm, and his playcalling is sparatic.

How any one can compare him to Sean Payton is ridiculous. Watch his playcalling, and watch Garretts. That's knowing your strengths and weeknesses. He's made Terrance Copper, Devry Henderson, (both former Cowboy Greats) into servicable players. He is so head and shoulders ahead of Garrett it's not even funny.

Is that what you guys want? A second fiddle kind of coach? Like the one we have now? I don't want that for my team.

We are the best francise and sports and I want the best Head Coach. That's the way it should be.

I agree. I will SETTLE for Garrett if I have to but tjhe guy I want is Mike Holmgren. I think our team is SUPERBOWL ready, right now. We have about a 3 year window to get it done. Short term, Holmgren BY FAR is best suited for the job.

Landry was the OC and the DC. Of course there will be only one Tom Landry ever in the NFL and I mean that literally and figuratively.

Jerry should hire one of their position coach and throw huge money at Dick LaBeau to be a consultant for one year to groom the guy. Yeh I know..wishful thinking.

Why would Dick LeBeau leave Pittsburg to be a consultant. He'll be in Pittsburg until he dies.

And I dont want to hear any of this OOOHH, changing offenses whining either. We changed from Parcells old Giants offense to the Coryell offense when Garrett was brought in and Romo never missed a beat. In fact he played lights out. The 2 offenses have ZERO in common. Plus...you have to give Holmgren more credit than that. The guy is an offensive genius , always has been, he too knows he would have a small window...2-3 years. He would FIND a way to make the offense easily adaptable..

He's old, probably wants an easier job, last chance for the big payoff.

I don't know if I want Holmgren or any retreads for that matter but I actually think we can be very good at running the WCO.

I think as long as Garrett has his offense ranked in the top 5 or so he will be the next man to lead this team.I would like for this team to be ranked a little higher in scoring(#12 currently) but being number #3 overall in the league offensively isn't bad.

I also think most of the offensive players buy into what Garrett is selling and they want to play for him(JMO).I know they have had some stinkers on offense, but they have shown flashes of brilliance at times.Schematically some of the play designs are brilliant while others are somewhat idiotic.I'm hopeful that I'd see more of the brilliant plays as Garrett gains in experience.

I'm of the opinion that I would rather see a young offensive mind take control of this team for better or worse than to see another retread.I think Parcells was a good coach in his day but the game has passed him by and he could no longer relate to the players.I think Wade is in the same boat,an older guy that can't relate to the current players on this roster.I don't know that a younger coach is the answer for this team, but I do know that Grandpa Wade is on life support and Great Uncle Bill has passed on.

I also think that Garrett would bring in a coordinator to help gameplan, but I think Garrett calls the plays on gameday.

Like having a top 5 offense is impressive, we were top 5 before this useless ginger showed up with his ps3.

If we were rebuilding longterm I probably would be inclined to go with Garrett or another young coach. But were not. Talent wise we are Superbowl ready RIGHT NOW with about a 3 year window to get it done. Holmgren is the best option far and away. Heres a scenario.........

The U.S has went to war in the Korean peninsula to repel the invasion by the North Koreans. Our president, Harry Truman "Jerry Jones" has a choice to make on who is going to lead our troops into battle and handle our war strategy. Does he pick the battle tested veteran Douglas Macarthur "Mike Holmgren" with a proven track record of defeating his enemies and not only winning the battles, but the war "SUPERBOWL", or does he pick a young upstart General " Jason Garrett" who SEEMS to be ready but is largely unproven and just HOPE for the best??????? Harry Truman made the right call. So should Jerry! ....:D

Parcells offense in 2006 was throwing the ball downfield quite abit.Point is Parcells offense that year had a vertical element to it,which is quite abit different than what he employed in New York.

The change to the WCO offense isn't so much the change in philosophy that a team has trouble picking up,it's the change in terminology that throws everybody off.Learning the terminology of the WCO offense is the problem, and that problem can take up to 3 years to solve depending on the coaches playbook.

In the end Truman fired Macarthur though.

Better to be ranked in the top 5 than the bottom 5.

Nonsense. He's a fixture in Pittsburg. He'll be there until he can no longer do his job.

Blah, blah, yes I know the season is not over, I heard about it last night so we will call this a hypothetical question.

make no bones about it, Jason Garrett will be the next head coach of this team. Jerry will do his job and interview the "hot name", he will bring in the "up and riser" and then to make the NFL happy he will interview a minority although as he has in the past it will either be someone in house or by phone but he will do it and in the end he will hire Jason Garrett.

Hypothetically, When that happens do you think a offensive coordinator would be brought in?

Would HC and OC be to much for a first time Head Coach, esp one with as limited experience and Jason?

Not saying I support this decision. Very much against it but If start preparing now maybe I can get through the first two years.

It also could have it's advantages besides the possibility it could work. Maybe just maybe Jason can convince Jerry to start using some draft picks and high draft picks on offensive talent like WR and OL.

I don't think Garrett will be the HC next season.

To me especially last year with TO and now this year again Garrett doesn't seem to know how to handle a job that needs leading quality. He doesn't seem to have the soft skills you need for it. Besides of that he shows every week that he still is "a work in progress" at OC.

I don't think it's a good idea to handle an unexperienced guy who needs to mature alot at his position (that means he needs time) a job that demands alot more.

Still i think Garrett is very liked in the NFL so o i think Garrett is a hot candidate for not being around 2010. Still JJ seems to be in love with him.

I don't think Holmgren will land in Dallas.I think Seattle or Cleveland are more likely destinations for Holmgren.
