Will McClay has turned down multiple general manager offers to leave Dallas. He has proved to be an excellent director of scouting, in which the Cowboys have drafted more pro bowl players then any other team over the last decade. Sure, he has had some misses, so so do all scouting departments around the league. Point is, he has a successful track record.

With over 20 years without even a Conference Championship appearance, the Jones Family has failed, without the train robbery deal for Walker, it is debatable they ever win a championship since they bought the team. Will Jerry/Stephen give up the power? Only happens if someone who they respect convinces that the best course of action; Jimmy, Bellicheck, Saban are the type of coaches with clout that can try to convince them, try is the key word. Sad thing is, we may already have a strong GM in the building and he doesn't even have the job in McClay!
So you believe a yes man that hasn’t help produce a championship team in all the years in Dallas is going to change and become a GM who changes every thing. There’s a good reason why he stays where he is a job that pays great with no accountability. If he was so wonderful he would have left to be a GM and make his mark instead he stays where he is and just has to say yes Jerry. If it’s only a paycheck he’s looking for he found the right place money with no responsibility or accountability otherwise he would have been gone proving he GM material

Lol fans still buying the "Cowboys are an elite drafting team" narrative and totally unwilling to acknowledge years like 2019 and 2023. I can tell you as a fan that hasn't seen a Super Bowl since I was in First Grade that Pro Bowls mean nothing to me.

What does McClay bring to the table besides being a Jones yes man and maybe scouting later round CB's? He's not the cancer, but he's a symptom of this good 'ol boy network.

Will Mcclay has done nothing to deserve this job. This team needs an elite GM. Decent draft classes doesn’t constitute an elite gm. Hard pass.
If he was allowed to hire the coaching staff, I think he would do great. He’s not allowed to do anything other than what he’s doing. Again thank you Jerry.

There’s too many things for him to consider. Up and move my family. You have no idea what kind of GM he would be and neither do I. How do you know he doesn’t have accountability. . What I see for him I like, I don’t know, anything else other than that because Jerry is who he is. It’s Jerry that you should be *****ing about.

He's been with this team what 15 years? He's part of the problem. Can't build a legit D line and have been getting run over pretty much the entire 15 years. Then you have real headscratching draft picks with major needs up and down the roster. Not a fan of McClay at all.

Will McClay needs to leave and become a successful GM for another team. He would never get the opportunity in Dallas. That would once again prove how bad Jerry is and that he had other capable people right under his nose but he chose to meddle and mess everything up.
Will McClay has one of the greatest jobs in professional sports. He is literally Teflon with the fan base. If a draft pick fails, the Joneses are blamed for it. If the pick hits, then it was McClay the genius. The guy makes millions each year to never be held to task for anything - why would he leave?

It doesnt matter until you remove father and son from the room, and build an operation with some accountability and jobs on the line.

Yet another reason I have nearly no hope….

Even if they give someone else the GM title, things would still be subject to their approval on any significant contract.

Jerry’s personal favorites would not be allowed to walk if the “GM” didn’t want to extend them.

They don’t want to invest millions in players they don’t know, and can’t be bothered to get to know them…not that they would have much of a clue if they tried.

Really the only hope is once Jerry is gone, which could be a while, Stephen steps up and claims that he wanted to hire football people all along but Jerry wouldn’t allow it, and he complied out of respect….then hires consultants to find a GM, then gets completely out of the way.

Of course he fancies himself a “football guy,” and thinks quite highly of himself vs others, but just maybe he doesn’t crave the attention the old man does and isn’t up for the bother or the criticism.

I’d say there’s about a 30% shot of that happening, and please don’t try to shoot it down….it’s all I have left lol. Thanks.

Will McClay already is the GM. Jerry just rubberstamps all his ideas and gets all the credit or blame.

IF you were able to get the owners out of the picture, start over with a clean slate.

Bring in a real GM & let them set the organization up from top to bottom.

No results with him aboard, so what has he accomplished other than getting a good paycheck. So you wouldn’t move your family for a better paying job and the opportunity to prove that you’re the guy who can get it done. You guys are funny all those bone head picks are Jerry’s fault the good ones are WM all those bad contracts are Jerry’s fault and WM had no input. You’re a funny guy

He has accomplished nothing other than draft choices. But you don’t know what he’s capable of, and neither do I. So why bash somebody when you’re not sure and it’s just your opinion. He’s making great money now. Why should he move his family if he doesn’t want to, that’s his choice not yours not mine.

The fact of the matter is, I can only hand you my paper of the guys I like it’s not my fault whether you choose them or not. The bottom line is Jerry is the GM he’s the owner. There’s nothing funny about it. Lies with him. that’s the bottom line. I think you’re the funny guy.

You could bring the good man from above down here to be the GM, but even him cannot convince Jerry to hand over all the duties of a GM.

Damn it, don't you know Jerry is in the HOF and if you make any more suggestions about him doing something different then I will go find another forum to ask questions like this, and if Reality don't like it, I'll have him fired!

My opinion at least you understand that, as for what he’s capable of most have a pretty good idea based on his history
