If what you are saying is Jerry steps completely away and lets McClay call all the shots, including signing free agents, then yes, I am all for it. I have no idea how McClay will do managing the CAP but I trust his judgement when it comes to talent. Perhaps he can hire a couple of eggheads to manage the CAP for him. But Jerry is never going to step away like that. And Stephen won't either. It is shocking to me that McClay hangs around because he could get more responsibility elsewhere.

With the surge in AI related programming lately, I am surprised no one has come up with an application to do CAP management. Seems like projecting contracts, what if scenarios, planning roster moves in the future could all be automated to provide GMs with a pretty good analysis of this data. But in the end it is the policies like signing free agents, cutting players or letting them leave, and decisions like that the GM has to make and those are things Jerry seems to want to hold onto.
This ^^^
As for AI programimg......I am 100% confident it's on the radar, just a matter of time.

McCray was a hot commodity a few seasons ago but I’d argue the last couple seasons have shown he’s not infallible and possibly past his best. Personnel decisions have been pretty crap lately.

Who in their right mind wants to come to Dallas and work for Jerry Jones? Jerry is still under the delusion that this team is championship-worthy and is “America’s Team” when both remain fallacies.
Nobody competent and talented would tolerate Jerry’s incessant meddling and undermining; surely his little outburst on the radio did him no favors…so Dallas is always going to hire retreads and burnouts, those desperate for another job; Dallas will never hire a McDonald, Campbell, Shanahan, Taylor, McConnell or Kubiac, which would be the first step in turning this franchise around.
This downward spiral will continue as Jerry will continue to operate this franchise without vision or forethought; and in the event of Jerry’s demise…I see Stephen carrying on and maintaining the status quo.
Neither of these two are competent to be running a NFL franchise…they have done nothing of importance since taking control of personnel and day-to-day over from Jimmy.

why? do we also get 10 first rounders to go shopping with as well?
Why? Because he had the foresight to trade his decade long failure QB for two firsts to begin the rebuild which is EXACTLY what we need.

Will McClay has turned down multiple general manager offers to leave Dallas. He has proved to be an excellent director of scouting, in which the Cowboys have drafted more pro bowl players then any other team over the last decade. Sure, he has had some misses, so so do all scouting departments around the league. Point is, he has a successful track record.

With over 20 years without even a Conference Championship appearance, the Jones Family has failed, without the train robbery deal for Walker, it is debatable they ever win a championship since they bought the team. Will Jerry/Stephen give up the power? Only happens if someone who they respect convinces that the best course of action; Jimmy, Bellicheck, Saban are the type of coaches with clout that can try to convince them, try is the key word. Sad thing is, we may already have a strong GM in the building and he doesn't even have the job in McClay!
Actually he is part of the problem. He's all about things we are not allowed to talk about.

He's the GM of creating/maintaining the Coaches "Needs" and "Wish" lists, but the Jones' control the capital (both draft and monetary).

If McClain was really the GM of the personnel, there's no way he would've trotted out this RB backfield or D-line into training camp. I can guarantee you that Will would've spent more capitol on those two position groups for this season if he was the GM (and we know the Coaches desperately want it). How do I know? Because he doesn't seem to be a complete IDIOT that would ignore glaring deficiencies. Which is a very observable low bar to cross in Dallas...
Jerry overrides everything.

They will have a $100 million in cap space. Stop listening to Stephen.
Go to overthecap.com there’s only 35 guys signed for next year. 7 of the newbies will be rookies. 2 will be backup QBs. Plus need the full practice squad.

You think they are going to spend $100 million filling out the rest of the roster. You are also not taking into account the cap growth and the 20 million the Cowboys will add with the roll over. We are not even talking about the restructures from CeeDee and Dak.

Currently they have 28 million available. Add the 23 is 51. CD gets you 20 more and Dak gets 12. The number is likely around 83 if they use every switch they can.

But not sure if there’s any penalties for DLaw or Martin

Plenty of money to bring and free agents. Plus you sign Parsons to an extension to lower his cap hold. Restructure Diggs and Steele then you have your 100 million.

2026 looks better.
You know what. I would not be against a tanking for the next two seasons. The problem is the Cowboys resigned Dak to that big contract so they would be unable to draft a young quarterback. Broaddus is saying he does not believe Jerry wanted to give Dak that big contract. I question rather that is true.

In terms of talent, the Cowboys have managed to allow it to deteriorate significantly in the last 20 years and counting. As long as the money keeps rolling in, they will continue to do what they are doing, with no regrets for their situation. Their fans are becoming increasingly less and less tolerant of their ways, and the Texas media, realizes the sad way this team is being handled. The older Jerry gets, the less he cares about the football woes that his team suffers. Money and power is the prize that means the most to him. He's a bitter owner who just doesn't care about his team.
