Personally, I don't want Will McClay to continue to do work Jerry takes credit for. I don't care how much Jerry pays him. I want Will McClay to parlay the job he has done here into getting the proper title and recognition for the duties he performs. I want Will McClay to go somewhere and become GM and/or President. This is the JONES family business..and it will always be that way. You've done your job here Will...now go blaze you own trail and create your own legacy.

Well this is silly.

Is your last name McClay by chance?

Here is a plan:
Title: Executive Vice President of Strategic Planning
Salary: GM level
Equity: Cowboys valuation is 4B. 1% is worth $40M. Give him a performance based vesting plan to can get up to 1% over 4 years. Largest compensation probably in history for GM, but if we win, team valuation goes up and Jerry's value goes up. You can include an exit clause where he has to sell his equity for market value if he leaves the team.

No. I am African American. And there are not enough African American GMs in a sport where 70% of the players are African American. By properly recognizing him with the appropriate title for the duties he performs...that will give players and/or kids growing up following the sport....hope that there are opportunities beyond the playing field.

Will McClay is GM in all but name. In stature. In compensation. In responsibility. And in esteem among his peers. He's a great role model for minorities and he conducts his work on the brightest stage in football for the Cowboys.

As a fan of the Cowboys I don't want him going anywhere.

How can he be a great role model when nobody knows what you do because you do not have the proper title? I am not begrudging Jerry or his family for the empire they built. But in Dallas...that title will always belong to Jerry, or his children, or his grandchildren etc....so it's bigger than money. The other owners money is green just like Jerry's.

If you are a player who wants to get into player personnel you know who Will McClay is. Or you know someone who when they are introducing you into the field will know who Will McClay is. He isn't some hidden man.

AGain the situation here is unique. But it confers some benefits.

I just wonder when we tell his story if people will think we're making it up.

He existed.

I have no doubt that the Joneses take good care of Will McClay. Financially. Perks. Say so. Accolades. He knows he's loved and respected in those hallways. He knows he's all that in their eyes.

Do more for him. Please. Now.

The star performer in this organization has been this quiet personnel soldier who finds hidden gems here, there and everywhere. McClay, Tom Ciskowski, and that squadron of talent scouts have a knowing pulse on the college game and the pool of wandering free agents that lurk in the background.

This year's crop of draftees is just stupid good. You know the names. But what about Terrell McClain? What about Brice Butler, David Irving, Justin Durant, Keith Smith, and Jack Crawford? Guys that play and perform that didn't come from the fine side of the player vineyard.

You see his fingerprints everywhere.

Dan Bailey. Travis Frederick (what a find!). Cole Beasley. Geoff Swaim. Tyrone Crawford. You even see other guys on other teams that McClay identified here, but were let go. Olawale, Amendola, Holmes, and others.

The stars of this roster were drafted, and the role players were, too, alongside some shrewd free agent acquisitions.

Geez, Dallas has guys already in house waiting in the wings, too. Jackson can backup Elliott next year, and they like Frazier at safety. Brown has already made Scandrick look expendable, and Jaylon Smith just might anchor this defense for the next decade if he heals as hoped. Chaz Green? Damien Wilson?

(And Dak Prescott? Shut up!)

Take care of this man...because the next offseason might just put this thing over the top. I'm talking, like Patriots or 90s Cowboys over the top. Imagine what an offseason like the last one focused solely on the defense would look like. The only offensive player I would even consider next year is Jake Butt, a Witten replacement that would give us a chance to write Jake Butt as much as we wanted. Jake Butt, Jake Butt, Jake Butt.....lol

Take care of this man, Jerry. He went to Rice for crying out loud. Razorbacks couldn't count to the ACT score that it takes to get into that place.

I know you won't give up that GM title, so think of something. Something holier than thou. Executive Grand Poobah of Dallas Cowboys Everything Football Player Accumulation. Let him write down his title, and you add another zero on the end of that check.

He's the magic ingredient. Do it.
Great Post Erod i enjoyed reading as i always do ! Keep up the great work
