They probably held him out because he has been killing it in camp since day 1? Nothing but glowing reports on the guy. Are you not paying attention?

Never have heard this much crying over holding out a guy you expect to be a key contributor...at the most injury prone position....for the 1st preseason game.

Not crying, just saying when you have a deep position every guy is expendable to me... I Like Dunbar... not knocking him.. just odd is all.

Really? I usually get the perspective of the 'show me, don't tell me' fans for players, but Dunbar's a guy I think has flashed an awful lot in his time on the filed here. I do get the fumble issues (I'd never play a fumbler, no matter how elusive he is), and the injury issues, obviously. But when the guy has the ball in his hands in the open field, he's a really good player. I'm surprised not everybody feels that way about him, because it's pretty apparent from where I'm sitting.

"When" he gets into the open field. He has so-so vision and doesn't break tackles, so he is a boom or bust back. Its not that I don't like the guy, I just don't think he's better than Randle or Williams.

Fair enough. I like him better than both, though Williams I admit I'm looking forward to seeing a lot more of.

Can we put Randle on the practice squad? I bet nobody would pick him up.

Bottom line is Williams is better than Randle. Dunbar will never be a full-time RB. Williams is our best bet as a back-up RB.

Remember he will also be running behind a first team oline.

Right. I think its unfair to say who's really winning this battle. I actually haven't been that impressed with Ryan as others have aside from that CRAZY run he had on Saturday. Aside from that....I haven't seen enough to warrant getting rid of Randle for him.

I just wonder reading through this thread, with our present HC and OC, why do some think we will keep 4 RBs.

Like it or not, this will be a passing team this year and with whatever lipservice has been given to the run game being a facade, 4 RBs is just unlikely to happen.

Start figuring out what 3 you want, my bet is Murray, Dunbar, and Ryan. Randle = Choice.

I don't think anyone would pick him up either. He has showed nothing in my book in the times I have seen him play. I am all for Williams taking his spot.

We are comparing him to top tier work load backs though... You have to remember, he's going for a back up role and it was in ONE game... a preseason game. If you average his preseason as a whole (2 Games, LOL) its over 5 ypc.

That's why I tend to ignore one-great-runs because they skew the perspective (although all running backs have them and they are part of their average) when looking at what a player does down to down. Down to down, I just haven't seen the elusiveness, the ability to bounce or break tackles that an RB needs.

To be fair, I don't think Dunbar or Randle are great at breaking tackles, either, but they have shown facets of their game that make them a threat even when blocking doesn't give them a great hole to work with: Dunbar's speed and Randle's bounce. (With Dunbar, the speed and ankle-breaking elusiveness is put on display when Dallas gets him into the open field. As a back running between the tackles, I haven't seen much to say he can be effective at it.)

Haha sadface. I loved choice, one of the few players i really liked all the way through college. I had a choice jersey as soon as they got him. Not good.

I like Williams but there is that injury concern and I don't think he plays special teams

Well, it's feasible if Randle shows something on returns. I think Dunbar is going to see time split wide which means you need a real runner in the backfield and Murray is pretty fragile.

I don't agree. That might be how it shakes out but to me he should make the team strictly on the fact that he's the best option should Murray go down.

I agree he doesn't need to play STs for certain although that's a plus if he can. But he has to be able to pass block. You can't put him in and risk Romo. I think we keep 4 RBs.

Choice and Felix Jones were both dumb players who made a ton of mistakes on the field. I don't think that's a fair comparison.

Randle is not going anywhere unless it's to the IR. He blocks in the backfield and beyond as well as running good routes and catching the ball. He also plays STs. He's run well, too.

If Williams doesn't pass block then he can only be used for certain plays. And we have a guy in Dunbar to play that open space back. Dunbar can also pass block, catch the ball, and runs routes reasonably well. There isn't another guy of the roster with his speed and power along with the rest.

We need to see more of Williams. I think he can be a better GL back than anyone else on the roster although Randle ain't bad at getting skinny.
