^this.

Not only a lock, but a guy we are resting in the preseason!?! huh? LOL

How much work so you see from rbs around the league in preseason who are expected to contribute early into the season?

We have a role for Lance that is unique to him. Why subject him to unnecessary punishment.

You'd probably be the first guy to throw the hammer at the front office if he was hurt in a "meaningless" preseason game.

The Cowboys also have to think about the future, I do not think they are paying Murray when his contract is up. It would be graet to have Williams on the team when/if Murray leaves.

I think this reason is why we will carry 4 RBs this year, special teams contributors or otherwise.

If Murray decides to leave for bigger money elsewhere, we'll have three solid guys for camp.

This team can keep two kickers but not a backup running back who "only runs the ball well"? Drafting for SP teams, back ups, etc...draft/keep talent when available (coaches are supposed to come into play here).

I like what Williams showed but I think Randle has done more against better competition this preseason. I'd like to see what Ryan does against 1st and 2nd tier talent.

Remember he will also be running behind a first team oline.

I hope he makes the team. However, if he can't play special teams he will never make the game day 45 (pending an injury to Murray). If he can't pick up the blitz, Randle will start in front of him. He is a heck of a runner. Cowboys need him to be a complete back who plays special teams. We will see if he gets there.

It would be OK if he is inactive. When is the last time the Cowboys had a full season without an injury to a RB?

If they keep him as the 4th RB, they really should get him to sign on for another year. Murray might not be here next season.

Hey, thanks for the link -- really enjoyed watching that play again and hearing what the young man had to say.
He definitely has some fire, and I'm sure every true Cowboy fan was fired up after that play.

He's quick, strong, instinctive, and punishing and should be able to learn a role on ST and block in the backfield, and therefore make the 53.

This is the kind of player that now epitomises the NFL, and is one reason for an increase in injuries. The way these guys fly around and create trainwrecks is exciting to watch, but something has to give -- it's usually ligaments, tendons, bones, and brains (concussions).
You can't avoid that with better conditioning.

I hope he gives more than he gets.

Yeah, I don't understand it. That's almost "superstar treatment" right there, on a player who is a question mark. All 3 RBs have injury history (Murray, Dunbar, Williams) but Randle seems to be the healthiest and he looked good in the first 2 preaseason games. Dunbar should have been played more to see if he's worth keeping, I don't think his spot should have been handed to him like that. But what do I know.

Randle's game resembles Demarco Murray's. He's just not as strong and fast, but I think he fits this system well. He even has a similar build as Demarco Murray.

Dunbar is like the Darren Sproles type at best, and Darren Sproles has been on how many teams now? RBs in that mold just don't stick around. And yes, it's a huge stretch to compare him to Sproles.

Sproles is just marrying up, like an ex-wife -- love the one you're with, until someone makes you a better offer.

He's still a dynamic component of any offense, and Dunbar can be that, too.

I'm all for keeping 4 in this injury-prone position.

I have not seen the second preseason game yet but Williams showed some nice juice in the first game.

Running backs in preseason is always tricky. It seems like every team has that 3 rd or 4th running back that lights up the preseason. A lot seem to be released in final cuts, never to be heard from again. With that being said, I am intrigued with Williams and would like to see him get some first team snaps. I am much more interested,in seeing Williams and Dunbar get fed with a lot of carries on a long drive then seeing Murray get a lot of carries. I think we know what a healthy Murray can do.

I would like to see more of that from Dunbar. He didn't impress the other night.

Should be interesting to see Williams & Randle in the next preseason game. Randle looks better than last year but he doesn't look good enough for the Cowboys to cut Ryan Williams.

I've never once seen a second string RB sat in a preseason game... Maybe the last one when they wanted to get the fringe back a lot of touches... but this was when they sat the "stars"

Preseason game number 1. There were 3 more to play. Get over it.

Needs to work on pass protection a lot, but his burst I think has looked the best out of anyone so far..

Question #1 -- can he play special teams?

Yep. A guy that far down the depth chart has to be able to play special teams and be a contributor. They just don't give a spot that far down just to sit on the bench the whole time unless you are a QB. Anything else, you better be able to play special teams.

And yes, picking up blitzes are very key, too. I mean he's a nice story and it was a nice run but he has to show he can do more than just run the football being a 3rd string RB.

Can't believe no one's mentioned his play, this guy looks like the truth. I think he's a perfect back up to Demarco. I'd like to see him get some work with the ones...

I don't see it. He had one standout run in which he trucked a safety. Other than that, he hasn't really done much. He average 3.6 yards per carry in limited action in the first game and his other four rushes against Baltimore netted 9 yards, I believe (granted one was a 3-yard touchdown run).

I can't be won over so easily. Right now, Randle is outplaying him.

I'm right there with you. It's star treatment for a player I don't think is any better than his UDFA ticket to the NFL.

Randle will get the spot over him as the third RB. This team will need bodies on the DL and won't be able to keep 4 RB. I like his running style he just gets caught in a numbers game this time.

Why not keep randle and williams, whoever is better at ST so be it he plays ST

exactly. you need your backup RBs to play ST.

for me, as much as I may like Williams, he won't see the field much outside of injuries. I also like what I saw out of randle. he is not that big, but he has shown great vision and patience playing behind the line and seems to make positive plays. he doesn't have a lot of speed, but he gets the yards needed.
