Willy McGinest Thread

Say what you will about his age, but since 1999 he's only missed 9 games. And he's averaged 0.46 sacks per game. That's an average of 7.38 sacks per 16 games since 1999.

For his career he's averaged 0.46 sacks per game as well.

He also has the record for most sacks in one postseason game, against Jacksonville this past year.

If they draft a OLB alongside of him, I have no problem with them signing McGinest.

2 deal I would have no problem getting McGinest anything beyond that I think would be a mistake, you don't want to be paying out big money or longterm contract to players on the downhill side of their career

He is the ALL time Post-season sack leader and would be a FORCE opposite Ware at outside LB...

Ware and Mcginest rushing the passer!!

DO IT!!

Agree let's do it. Ware and the young pups can learn alot from him. How ironic it would be we were going to select this guy years ago in the 1st round and he ends his career here

You guys need to come up with a different excuse. Every year you complain about the Cowboys picking up ex Parcells players and they are too old yet the guys always make a big contribution. Is he better than Fujita? YES! Then your other complaint is money yet every year we get his former players at a bargain.

That honestly makes me sad. I was so looking forward to see the double sided pass rush of McGinest and Ware

Spoke too soon..Willie was released this morning after the cba extension!! :bang2::banghead::eek:

I don't want to draft a LB if we sign Mcginest. This team has other needs and LB could wait if Mcginest signs.

The Boston Globe reports league sources said the New England Patriots want to re-sign free agent LB Willie McGinest (Patriots) with a lower contract then the one he had when he was released.

The Pats released McGinest. They wil end their ties with McGinest. Hes gone outta NE.

I like Mcginest but he isn't worth getting into a bid war over. There are a lot of talented LB's that could step in from day one in this draft. I would only support signing him if the price was right. Anyone know what his cap figure for this coming year was?

:crossed: Keep your fingers crossed. This would be a great pickup. Sure its a short term fix but with a first round LB this year we'll have a very young LB core. Some experience/leadership (not to mention top-tier play) in their would be great.

As for LaVar, I just don't see it happening. He's an undisciplined player on the field. I don't think his mentality fits our scheme.

McGinest was much coveted by the Cowboys in the '94 draft...

He is/will be 35 this year, but is still amazingly productive at his postion considering his age...

He has been to two Pro Bowls I believe and has always been solid. Spectacular in flashes but always solid...

He may end up where he should have started...

Well, I doubt that there will be a big bidding war. The Pats just cut him and can try to re-sign him, but chances are they'll bid lower than a team that wants his services.

He's best suited at 3-4 OLB, so the other teams that play the 3-4 are:

1. SF - Possibility, but I don't think he wants to play for a team that bad.

2. Cleveland - See above

3. NY Jets - doubt they have cap room

4. Miami - don't think they have cap room and Saban wants younger defensive players.

5. SD - With Merriman and Foley, they don't need him.

6. Pittsburgh - No need for him.

I think Dallas is the clear frontrunner for his services right now.

Don't forget the Romeo factor. Plus they have a lot of money to spend.
Agreed. If a bidding war occurs, its between Cleveland and Dallas.

At his age he will want to go to a team that can win now. Cleveland is a long way away from the playoffs.

Edge Dallas

10-4. Sign him...he can still get it done. His training regimen has been a benchmark for ALOT of young players around the league. This guy stays in phenomenal shape and plays (physically) like guys 10 years younger. He'll be a rtemendous pick-up for someone...I hope he's in Dallas this season.
