Everybody here knows Jason Garrett is toast and nothing can stop that. It would take a miracle for this dysfunctional mess of a team to win a playoff game.

one thing is for sure: if we hit the last game with a chance to make the playoffs and we lose then he is gone. No way will Jerruh stand for that 3 years in a row.

Agreed..........we get eliminated in week 17 for the 3rd consecutive year, the dude is gone.

Only way Garrett stays the HC is if we either win a playoff game or if we lose a playoff game on a last second play to a legit SB team. Say we lose to the 49ers on a last second FG, I could see Jerry staying the course and claiming "progress" was made.

No playoffs or getting hammered in the playoff game is an automatic bus ticket out of big D.

Garrett will keep the job unless the players quit on him like they did with Wade.

Jerry believes that the assistant coaches have more to do with wins/losses than the Head Coach. Jerry believes that the job of a non-coordinator Head Coach is to keep the players motivated and to help Jerry with player acquisition.

For example, if the OLine is bad again, then Jerry will either blame Callahan or the players, not Garrett.

Does anyone else think this is where we are? It's what I suspect. Or do you think there's some way that JG keeps his job even if there's no playoff victory? Maybe winning the NFC East with a very good record is enough, especially if whoever we face in the playoffs is very good.

I can't imagine after another 8 and 8 or worse that Garrett sticks around.

I think it is a make or break year for Garrett. Making post season and doing well in post season is a must for him.

I'll make it simple. Jerry takes things to heart. He admitted that the booing last year got to him. He admitted that the negative press and questions got to him. While I'm not a Garrett fan in the least, I see why people would say, "if the team improves, Jerry will keep him." I just think Jerry will feel the pressure this year and if things start going "iffy" with no playoffs, then the trigger finger will be itchy.

I don't know that making the playoffs is a necessity but I do think Jerry will want to see the team playing better. If they go 10-6 and miss the playoffs does Garrett keep his job - I think probably but it remains to be seen.

I really hope we don't switch philosophies anytime soon because I think Garrett/Callahan/Kiffin/Marinelli are about to put together a roster and gameplans that can go up against any team in the league and win. The albatross that was the OL will be better this year. The skill players will be better this year. The rushmen will be better this year. The coverage schemes will be much better this year and this is probably where the team will improve the most overall.

Wins are fickle, though. Sometimes you get unlucky and lose a bunch of close games and sometimes you get lucky and win a bunch of them. Any game decided by a single play is a toss-up but those unlucky or lucky bounces can have a major impact on the end record in some years.

If we have health at a couple of a few key players: Romo, Lee, Ware, Dez, Miles and Murray I think we will be very good - maybe contend for the NFC championship good if we get average OL play. If Tyron elevates to Pro Bowl play and TFred gives us average Center play and Free goes back to 2010 form we can be scary good - SB good. This could be a better roster than 2007 it is just that a lot of the key players are on the early side of their careers and many of those guys were injured last year so we didn't have the buildup year in 2006 like we did before we exploded in 2007. I really hope it all comes together for us because we deserve a good year after all the events of the past 3 years.

The fans need to start believing in the team. Win or lose, the game is just more enjoyable that way. It is okay to believe in them even if you think they can be managed better.

If we win the NFC East, I seriously doubt JG is going anywhere regardless of what happens in the playoffs.

No playoff game, no Garrett. He's as good as any sacrificial lamb. Some are expendable, some not.

A more reasonable question to frame the context of Jason Garrett is:

If you owned the Cowboys and Garrett did not make the playoffs, would you keep him around as HC?

I think Jason has to get into playoffs to keep his job. You can already see Jerry lining up another good old boy Callahan to take over then. However, don't expect anything to change in terms of wins/losses/playoffs with Jerry and Callahan running things.

And that's plenty of time. End the cycle. Hire a real head coach with experience and give him a contract. I agree, the revolving door sucks. But insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

You mean like hiring a new coach every 3-4 years and blaming him for your underachieving overrated and over payed players?

I think they're on the right track but would bet anything that short of a complete bomb this season, his job isn't in any jeopardy.

Frankly, I think that Garrett should only remain as head coach if he leads the Cowboys to two consecutive seasons with at least one playoff win apiece - 2013 and 2014.

If the Cowboys win a playoff game in the 2013 season but not in 2014, then I think he shouldn't be head coach any longer.

No way Jerry can sell Garrett to the fans if we go 8-8 or worse for the 3rd straight season under Garrett. Jerry has a 100,000 seat stadium to sell out and telling the fans Garrett is the right man for the job, when he has been the HC for almost 4 seasons and has won jack.

Very few coaches in the NFL can last more than 4 yrs without making the playoffs and still have job security. Those that do have some major skins on the wall or previous championships to buy them time.

Garrett has neither.

I think I just said that although there are other variables that go into the equation. It will be difficult to keep Jason around if we go 8-8 or worse again to repeat myself.

The only JG will get let go is if this team is below 8-8, and there are no major injuries to key positions.

He's doing a great job, building this team into a winner. I'm glad he will not be calling the plays, but not because I thought he was bad, but because I knew he had too much on his plate too early in his HC career.

He will be a great HC, here in Dallas.

Just wondering, what exactly do you feel he's doing a great job with?

Not really. I mean like hire an experienced one that doesn't require intensive on the job training and can get the best out of his players from day 1.

I agree with you as I'm not a real big JG fan but this is the double edge sword. If you replace JG with a stronger HC, 99% of the time that HC will come in with an ego. JJ is not about to let anyone outshine him as the main "driver" on the bus so he'll eventually run off any good coach we get. We saw it with JJohnson and BParcells. Any other past HC didn't have the onions to lead a club much less coach one esp. with JJ tugging at his shoulder with every move he made.
So with JG you have a guy who (I think) outsmarts himself on Sundays and really does not have the savvy to win against the better teams in the big environments. The only way JG and the present team wins big is if our defense becomes a dominate powerhouse much like the Ravens/Bears/Giants (when they had Parcells). Those teams won by tacking care of the ball and letting their defense dominate. This is the only way JG can win since this offense will never be consistently great. They built outside first then inside last with poor depth leaving the QB and RB (stars) vulnerable and we all know how that works.
Yes you can catch lightning in a bottle every once in a while but if your just betting on luck at the end of the season then go to Las Vegas.

Cleveland was fortunate to get rid of BB when they did.

You can play this the other way, too.

Each situation is different.
