If a 36 yr old can get up for 1 season, the Cowboys need to count their blessings and make guard their priority in the draft next year along with safety. They've found out in 2 weeks at camp their best hopes for Arkin/Matt Johnson were what we all thought they were... HOPES

Sounds like veteran guard Brian Waters is still very much on the #Cowboys radar... They like him. We'll see what he decides to do

On a plus note, it has been widely rumored that Waters wanted to play football in his home state of Texas, and thus left New England but had to wait until this season before he could sign with a team like the Cowboys. So there is that.

Can't say I agree with this. Please explain your thought process.

Great. Let's sign a 36 year old guard who sat out all of 2012.

Having a hard time getting too excited about this one as a consolation prize. I wanted him when he was last available, but now we're a couple years further down the road. I also don't get the 'wanted to play for a team in Texas' stuff. That seems like a ridiculous excuse for not signing an NFL contract, to me. Either you want to play, or you want a title, or you don't. It doesn't really matter which state we're talking about.

But, while I believe most fans overreact to our situation at OG, I will say that I"m really frustrated that neither Livings nor Bernadeau has been able to get on the field in either of their first two camps. I think either player could be an adequate stop gap if we could just get some consistency going, but it's impossible to do that with these injury setbacks.

While I'd feel better with Moore, Waters would at least bring depth and competition for that last OG spot (It looks like Leary has 1 OG spot locked up). At 36, I have reservations of the impact he can bring but its a no risk type of move. Bottom line is the Cowboys don't think they have a dependable starting at OG outside of Leary right now. Waters has a chance to be that.

I don't know what's so special about Waters. I really think people are overreacting about the RG position.

Two years ago he had a great season and had an appearance in the Pro Bowl. He is 36 now, however so he may not be able to provide that level of play at this point, but perhaps he can still play on a quality level.

They have?

Matt Johnson's injury is just day-to-day. He probably won't miss extended time, and he's still competing for the starting job.

Arkin started the game against Miami, and has drawn mostly positive reviews.

It's like the Cowboys know there's something wrong with one of their vets that's more serious than we're hearing right now. You don't sign a 36 year old at this point in the offseason unless you're filling a roster spot. I don't buy that the Cowboy brass suddenly decided the OGs they were planning to go with all along actually do suck and that a replacement is needed. If Waters is signed, I think Livings is going on IR.

Yeah, but believing otherwise fits in nicely with the prevailing narrative, so we're going to just go with that.

Johnson is just a day away from a stress fracture and will be out at least 2 weeks likely, which he needs every game and practice to show what he can do.

If they loved Arkin so much and he had such positive reviews, why would they be knocking on the door of a 36 y/o old who hasn't played in a year to take his spot?
