I also don't get the 'wanted to play for a team in Texas' stuff. That seems like a ridiculous excuse for not signing an NFL contract, to me. Either you want to play, or you want a title, or you don't. It doesn't really matter which state we're talking about.

Where you live and work shouldn't matter to you? It makes sense to me, and when I was on the job market there were certainly states that I wouldn't have considered moving to no matter what the job offer.

seems to me that after looking at the game tape and evaluating our guards the Boys decided they needed more than what we have in camp. So they went to Moore; now apparently Waters.

I think the team has an idea about the starters. I think they are probably looking for some experienced depth and Moore was the favorite because he played for Callahan and understands the scheme. That doesn't mean Moore has more left then Waters. Just means that less time would be spent getting up to speed. I would actually like to see Waters back in Dallas. Kind of poetic justice for our inability to recognize an All Pro/Pro Bowl Guard talent.

They have?

Matt Johnson's injury is just day-to-day. He probably won't miss extended time, and he's still competing for the starting job.

Arkin started the game against Miami, and has drawn mostly positive reviews.

Let's go with this angle then.

How much would you bet that Matt Johnson stays healthy for a full season?

Forget a full season. How much would you be willing to bet that Matt Johnson stays healthy for a month?

You can't count on him and if you don't know that then you obviously have been in a bubble since we've had him.

I think they new that before that game. They probably just confirmed same after the Miami game. Everybody has said, since the injuries to Bern and Livings, that we have little depth along the OL.

I think they are not happy with Arkin starting; and think Bernie is not much better and of course Livings is not one you can count on right now. So they are looking for someone that can either start or push hard for the starting spot.

Johnson is just a day away from a stress fracture and will be out at least 2 weeks likely, which he needs every game and practice to show what he can do.

If they loved Arkin so much and he had such positive reviews, why would they be knocking on the door of a 36 y/o old who hasn't played in a year to take his spot?

Insurance, if a guy like berny or Arkin goes down what would we be left with. Someone with out experience. Also it sounds like Livings is headed to the I.R. knees may be shot at this point and the Cowboys want to cross their t's and dot their i's

Why would anyone complain? If he can come in and improve the line, who cares how old he is? You're not signing the checks.

I have seen nothing that says Arkin will start but I have also seen nothing that would indicate to me that they are unhappy with Arkin. After this last game, I think the team has to be happy with what they have seen to this point. He had a very solid game.

I'm not willing to knock a guy for something I'm only guessing might happen sometime in the future.

and will be out at least 2 weeks likely, which he needs every game and practice to show what he can do.

It's at least one week according to ESPN, and "he still needs to show what he can do" is a far cry from "we already found out he's no good."

If they loved Arkin so much and he had such positive reviews, why would they be knocking on the door of a 36 y/o old who hasn't played in a year to take his spot?

Who said Waters would take Arkin's spot? You realize we have two injured starters and we were playing our first-round center at guard well into the fourth quarter against Miami, right?

Waters or Moore.....little risk as long as we are talking one year deal.

Matt Johnson....stress reaction means he will be out a couple weeks. I doubt he has a chance to start. And there is no evidence indicating he can stay healthy.

David Arkin...looks better than a year ago, but they see him everyday in camp so they might not think he is ready just yet.

I just find it unlikely Waters is in any kind of shape to play. Why not just sign Larry Allen then?

Two years ago I wanted to sign Waters. Everybody then kinda hated the idea because he was too old. He made the Pro Bowl.

I don't know if he can repeat that effort and I don't even know if we want him as a starting consideration but the guy is a 6 time Pro Bowler and a 2 time All Pro. He does know how to play the position. If it's only conditioning, we could do worse then Waters as a depth player.

On a plus note, it has been widely rumored that Waters wanted to play football in his home state of Texas, and thus left New England but had to wait until this season before he could sign with a team like the Cowboys. So there is that.

All that would do is bandaid the issue for one season. It doesn't solve the problem.

Ray Donaldson had a heck of a season for us in 1995 at about the same age. I'd rather have a guy with a history of success in the league, even if he's old, then the mess we have right now.

I don't know what's so special about Waters. I really think people are overreacting about the RG position.

The A gap was our single most vulnerable gap last year, excluding the 9 if you count Free. Now that may have been a result of Cook, but for 3 years now I have felt that people have been going after that gap way too much in the passing game. We have GOT to get it under control.

.
That's why they are trying to upgrade the RG position, right?

The reason they are going after these aging vets is because the alternative, (Arkin, Berny, Livings, etc) totally suck!
