This team never over drafts guys with character concerns. Intel on Kelvin Joseph, Randy Gregory, and Greg Hardy said that the team just had to harness their elite talent and if they busted in Dallas it was the coach’s fault.

Guytons concerns character wise are nowhere near Joseph, Hardy or Gregory.

They should have ran to the podium with the Barton pick......in a division with Payne, Davis and Lawrence...and Dak feels pressure....you needed a guy that can hold his ground.

Picking Barton where they were may have been the safer, and better long term pick…but time will tell

I would post Guyton with comparable stats (pass and run blocking) but many won't like it.

Maybe I should stay quiet and keep the peace?

Would have rather had us take Barton… but C is a deeper position than OT, so this will all come down to what they do with the next few picks.

With the track record on OL picks— I will give them the benefit of the doubt on Guyton.

somebody already mentioned the word develop and first rounder is not what I like either but I am with you on their solid history of 1st round olinemen so that's all I've got right now.
What is even worse is I'm not the biggest of Solari fans either so I'm really gonna hafta embrace the wait and see approach.

One thing about Oklahoma linemen, they're very well coached. Bedenbaugh is one of the best OL coaches in the game, and is really good at giving his guys the tools that they need to succeed.

Guyton will need a year or two in the weight room before we see the best of him, but, his current strength, coupled with his size and fundamentals, is good enough to start in the NFL.

I like the pick. I watched most of his games at Oklahoma and I don't recall ever having any concerns from the right side. After a close look, you can see great footwork, a massive frame, great punch, solid technique in pass pro and the run game, and a very large man with a nasty streak.

He needs to work on bending his knees and getting lower to anchor and drive. Once he figures this out, along with added strength from NFL S&C and natural growth with age, we could be looking at a monster of a left tackle...paired with a monster of a left guard. Get a good center and this offensive line is set at the very least, until Martin retires.

As with any rookie, there will be some growing pains........there are ways Dak and Tyler can help him.

6. TYLER GUYTON, Oklahoma (6-7 ½, 330, 5.21, 1-2): Fourth-year junior. “If you watch the Florida State game he actually dominated (Jared) Verse,” one scout said. “He kicked his ***. Absolutely dominated him. But he only steps up for big games. He went down to the Senior Bowl and stepped up. Thing is, once he gets comfortable, once he gets complacent, he’s gonna shut it down a little bit it looks like. In the National Football League you have to step up to the challenge every week. He may be the biggest bust. He’s an athletic freak but he’s just a mental midget.” After two backup seasons at TCU, he made 14 of his 15 starts for the Sooners at RT. “Thing that pisses you off about him is he’s so dang inconsistent with his hand placement,” a second scout said. “He gets beat by guys he has no business losing to. In the run game, his temperament and finish are very inconsistent. He can do it. He just has to set his mind to it. But when he does he can get push and movement off the line of scrimmage. He can pull and get to the second level. It’s just a matter of (improving) character-wise to reach the next level.” Arms were 34 1/8, hands were 10 ¼. His vertical jump of 34 ½ inches led the top 20 tackles. “He’s talented but there’s some unknowns based on what you see on film,” a third scout said. “His technique just isn’t very good. Definitely a finesse style, but he can be a starting left tackle. Not a bad kid. You could really hit on him if you’re comfortable with the makeup.” From Manor, Texas.

That's kind of why, even though I wanted Barton or JPJ, I figured we'd go with a tackle. Well, that and positional value. Our reasoning is likely that we can find a starting-quality center in the next couple of rounds. It's hard to find a tackle in those rounds with the traits Guyton has.

It would have been interesting, though, to see whether we would have taken Barton or Guyton if both had made it to 29. Hopefully, at worst this turns into a Tyler Smith/Linderbaum situation where both players prove their worth.

They are by far one of the better drafting teams in the league.

You can’t really knock them drafting OL in the first. They are always succesful
