Yup. If they believe the QB has a good chance of being The Guy, they must take him. If they don't believe in the QBs available, then of course the pick is on the market for the right price.

Yeah but here's the thing. If they decide none are franchise caliber and it turns out one was, everyone involved in that evaluation should be fired.

But that's not the way they operate in Dallas.

If we trade down then Elliot is a big target, this team doesn't draft DTs high.

There are a lot of good DTs in this draft.
But if 2014 taught us anything, it taught us we need a bell cow back to fuel this offense, this defense and this team.
Ezekiel Elliott will rush for more than 1,500 yards if the Cowboys draft him.
He would be a HUGE difference-maker on this team.
And, personally, I think that's who the Cowboys really want. We're blowing a lot of smoke. But everyone knows what occurred when we had Murray in the backfield. Tony got better. The defense (which was less talented than the one we fielded in 2015) got better. Our record got better.

And the team would have selected Todd Gurley had he dropped to our spot.

If we move down, we're taking Elliott.

Personally, while I would like a quarterback to groom behind Romo, I don't really know about Goff and Wentz - really. I don't think they're anywhere close to Luck, Newton or Winston. So, I'm kind of hoping they're picked before #4, leaving the Rams hoping to get Lynch. And the Rams DESPARATELY need a quarterback.

I think they'll make the trade. Then I take Elliott, a DT and a CB/SS and then invest in either Hackenberg or Allen.

The Rams could offer me three 1st round picks and if my scouting department tells me we have a franchise QB on the board I tell them I'm not interested.

Trade down - The knee jerk reaction for every fan this time of year.

Which player is the franchise QB?

I'm staring at the Ravens as a small trade down who know what an impact a top notch safety can do for a defense. They select Jalen Ramsey and Dallas picks up there second.
In this scenario Dallas could still get a premium player and two second rounders in a draft high in depth to ensure a few holes are filled.

You're not going to pull the wool over the Ravens' eyes. Sorry, but Newsome is too draft savvy and wise for that.

For me? Wentz. For Dallas? I don't know. I don't know where I lost ya but I said if their scouting department had a franchise caliber grade on a QB in this draft, whether it be Goff, Wentz, Lynch, I would not be interested in any trade down. Trade up is more like it. That player is worth more than anything a team can offer me. You either have a QB or you have no chance.

When you look at the players available right now, and its early in the process I know, but there isn't a guy at a position of need for Dallas that jumps out as deserving the 4 pick. Unless you are in the draft QB camp, which I am not with the 4th pick. I want a QB, but not at 4.

I think we all agree DT, LB, Safety/CB, Backup QB are our top needs.

So the 4th pick is worth 1800 points. I have a trade scenario that jumps out to me. LA Rams

Rams have the 15th and Two 2nd round picks.

If Jerry could swing a deal for 15 and 43, I think we could get 3 impact players at Pick 15, 34, 43.
Value = 1520 points. So they would likely have to throw in a 3rd or a pick next year also.

I would take Robinson or Reed or whatever DT you think is best at 15.
At 34 and 43 - Get CB's Fuller, Alexander, or Apple. Darron Lee, LB or Neal, S.

Then the Defense would get an immediate lift with a DT, and some secondary help.

You can spend the rest of the draft on Offensive toys. QB, RB, WR

I would say throw in Foles as a backup, but not as his new contract

QB is our biggest need... Want proof? Last season... Anybody who thinks Romo is going to last all year is delusional at best.

So a rookie QB is going to come on and save the day? Did you watch Aikman rookie year? Cam Newton's?. Now if you say draft a QB at #4 for the future beyond Romo you might have an argument.

Bah.

There's way too much risk and uncertainty associated with the draft to base everything on one faulty assessment. You have to look at how well they do in the aggregate. That's why the leaked draft boards have been so interesting: we can see how the Cowboys' draft team did on a large number of player assessments, particularly where they differed from conventional wisdom. And it sure looked from those that they do quite well.

I'm thinking long term @AmberBeer. The two guys you mention validate my point. How often do you think we gonna pick 4th.

I agree with you about how important a bell cow/play making RB is to this offense, defense, team. But even in that trade down scenario, Cowboys can take best defensive player and still be able to take a bell cow. Love Elliot, but Henry's size, speed and production is starting to grow on me too. Especially if he falls to the 2nd round as most are projecting.

The reality is that Romo can no longer be depended on to play a full season. A top QB pick and a veteran backup both should be priorities to secure the future. It hurts some fans to accept the fact that Romo may be done due to his health. I wish he wasn't, but injuries are doing him in.

We already have 9 picks this year.

We need quality over quantity. I would rather take Goff/Wentz early and try to trade back up later in the first or early second.

We don't need bodies, we need impact players and a future starting QB. If a QB is there, and to me there are 3 worth taking that high, then I take one. If not then rather than trade I take a dline guy to rush the passer. To me we have two real needs, Romo's future replacement and a player who can make a real impact. We have plenty of picks, we just need to make them count

Anyone that watched us play knows we need a qb to groom for the future. On top of that, who the Hell only wants true trade value for the 4 pick. If I an owning that pick I take a qb at all cost if our scouting department says he is a franchise guy. I hate trading back so if I do, they will pay a kings ransom to get it.

Drafting a QB will depend on what the team sees with these players. I have never seen day one starter QB drafted that wouldn't benefit from some developing . That doesn't mean that Romo's replacement should be ignored.
