Witten equals Don Mattingly.
I go one better Witten equals Derek Jeter. Both are pure class and played the games of their respective sport the way it should. I know Jeter played for the Yankees but he is the closest player I can come up with in the modern era.

To be honest, pretty sure there are dozens coz we simply don't/didn't know the people/personal side of so many.
No, there aren't. Very few people lead, treat people, and give back like Witten.

Almost nobody.

Witten was best of this era but we’ve had many from previous eras.
Not with his leadership, approachability and community involvement.

I'm not talking about nice guys. I'm talking about the very best of the very best.

There were many back in the day. And some of them are still giving back to the community area, and state.

i can get on board with that.. Emmitt Smith has to make that list even though he played two years with Arizona sigh but hes on my mount Rushmore for sure
Emmitt didn't hold the locker room accountable. He didn't get out in the community like Witten. He didn't treat the media and staff like Witten.

He was a better player than Witten, but that's not what this is about.

He was a hermit.
That’s not totally true. As a matter of fact I’m going to see him and Lilly Monday at their annual Golf benefit for Baylor’s Scott and White Children’s hospital benefit.

Witten equals Jason Witten. I think his career is enough we don't have to compare him to anyone.

He joins the halls of the greats and none can give him any reproach. We won't see his like again.

He held three camps for me. Nothing like meeting your childhood idol and he living up to your expectations.

I was around 10-13 years old at his peak but my young memory recalls that Jay Novacek was a pretty stand up guy, and my first beloved Cowboys TE. I still don’t think he is on Witten’s level in many ways, but he will always be one of my favorites.

Without the access that we have now, it’s impossible to say what kind of guy he was from a leadership perspective.

He was great! The team had many leaders back then, Witten and Romo were all we had, for the last 10+ years.

That’s awesome . This is the 31st year of the charity event i first begin playing in late 80’s.

I’ve never known a Cowboy player more giving of himself than Bob. Several Cowboy players and other celebrities , athletes and coaches have participated. I’ve never attended a charity event with Witten?

Today got me thinking of the best players who were also the best people to come through DFW.

I could only come up with three more.

Dirk Nowitzki
Roger Staubach
Michael Young

You hear the same things about those four guys.

He's the Tim Duncan of the NFL (without the rings). Humor me. Lived most of my life in San Antonio.
Tim Duncan as well for me. The GOAT. GSG. It's just too bad that Kawussy Leonard is a ***** who will never follow in his footsteps.

Could never stand whiny flopper Nowitzki, king of pretending to get fouled every time he took a midrange jumper until that beta boy Dominos Durant came around.

Could not agree more!
