Wood Zeke take a pay cut?

Yes, he likely will.
He structured his contract so Dallas couldn't cut him for 3 years while he made big money.
DLaw took a pay cut as it was his best option and I think Zeke will too. He loves Dallas and this team.

Zeke's dead cap next year would be 11.8M if released and he is scheduled to cost 16.7M while making 10.9 base.
If he drops his base to 6M and they add a void year to the deal he could cost them about 7M next year.
If he is still a quality player as he has been thus far that is probably better than a straight release.

Why does Zeke need to stay 3 more years?

He has already stolen enough money from the Cowboys. You want him to get more???
The man’s body has taken a beating with all the touches and blocking so I wouldn’t say he has stolen money.

But if zeke gets fired does he get nothing? I would be begging them to fire me. Still getting my guaranteed millions and dont have to go to work
His GTD money is over now.
He'd get a job so have to weigh his market versus what Dallas would pay him.
He likes Dallas/Frisco/Prosper and this team.

He can quite easily get a job but it would likely be as part of a tandem so not at 10-12M a year given his age.

Guranteed/dead cap is money that has already physically been paid in prior years but hasn't shown up on the cap sheet yet (you're electing to take the cap hit for that money at a later time).

He would receive zero dollars if cut
If I was making 19 million a year compared to getting cut and receiving none...YES and so would you!!
And guess what? That's how it goes down in the real world too. Very few people with obviously bloated salaries actually try to call companies bluffs in the real world.

This zeke situation is no different

Some factors that will come into play regarding Elliott's football future following the 2022 season:
A) His contribution to the team getting into the playoffs - and how far they advance
B) Jones and Jones - their opinion(s) on what Elliott has left in his ability to keep him for 2023
--B1) Nothing
--B2) Something somewhat substantial to offer to retain him at a reduced salary so he can finish his NFL career as a Dallas Cowboy
C) Elliott's desire to continue playing at all

At the end of the day we have the ability to eat the dead money on Zeke so it comes down to if he’s worth his 10.9m base salary. I think he gets 5m in the open market so the answer in no if you ask me.

If he did I would assume it would be just enough to make him still not worth the contract. How much do you pay an RB to mainly pass block?

I'll answer that when you answer this.

How much would wood a wouldchuck chuck if a wouldchuck could chuck would?
I have some pesky armadillos in the yard. Faster than Zeke. More elusive.

I hope he does. Hopefully he recognizes he’ll never get 10 million again unless it’s on incintives

Rather have the roster spot......Zeke would be in the way of progress. Find a way to keep Pollard if possible, Davis and draft a RB in 2nd...since they usually throw away 2nd rounders.

Players don’t just take a pay cut out of the goodness of their hearts and for the sake of the team. Pay cuts happen when a player is not worth his current contract but can sign with the same team for a lower amount that is still above what he would get on the open market if cut. It’s a business decision.

To put numbers to it, and I am making these up, Zeke is owed $10 million if he is on the team next year. He will get $5 million if cut. Nobody else will sign him for more than $3 million. If Zeke takes $6 million to stay in Dallas he comes out ahead but also takes a pay cut.

Would you take a paycut at your job?

If I was making as much as he is and could keep my job by taking a cut down to what I was actually worth, yes, I would take the cut, assuming I wanted to keep playing.

Take the highest salary you can get but in Zeke’s case that’s almost certainly a pay cut.

Zeke will absolutely not take a pay cut. His base salary for next year is guaranteed. No player gives back guaranteed money.

Zeke would have to take a very sizable pay cut and I don’t think he would do that. Plus I don’t think he’s all that thrilled with the role he has. A lot of fans are down on him and are on the Pollard bandwagon. Many seem to think Pollard is the better back. Don’t think they’re going to be able to coexist once the Cowboys and possibly Zeke have to make a decision. With Pollard being a free agent at the end of this season either he or Zeke won’t be here and you have to figure Zeke will be the odd man out. Pollard is the biggest playmaker we have on offense. He’s a game changer. It wouldn’t be all that difficult to find a power back who can block to replace Zeke.
