Here is my understanding of the situation. Next year he will have:
$10.9m base salary
$5.8m prorated bonus
total cap hit of $16.7m

If Dallas cuts him early, his entire remaining bonus hits the cap or $11.8m. That saves about $5m
If Dallas cuts him post June 1, they put half his remaining bonus on 2024, making next year's savings $10.9m.

He could simply take a lower base salary. If he were to get $3m, that would save $7.9m off next year's cap. I doubt he does that though. He might be able to get $3m on the open market or he might just prefer to retire than play for $3m.

To add to this he has 2.6 million roster bonus for both years so if you don't have them on the roster that's another 5.2 million saved for those two years on top of the combined 20.9 million base. So essentially 26 million saved over 2 years which is a good savings and well worth either cutting him or asking for a reduction

More apt comparison is if you were a contractor with an unguaranteed deal and another contractor came in and did better or similarly than you at a lesser cost would you consider revising your deal.
Exactly. It's a lot more complicated then "uhhh would you take a paycut at your job ?" (I truly don't understand why people throw that quote around, obviously it's completely ignoring the context)

In the real world pay cuts happen all the time, especially with artificially bloated salaries. Why would the NFL (where you have a more limited shelf life, a team pay cap, and way less opportunities) be any different?

Yeah we get it, "i'm a man and a man doesn't take a paycut would you at your job" sounds cool but that's not how the real-world works

I hope he does. Hopefully he recognizes he’ll never get 10 million again unless it’s on incintives

Nobody likes to take a pay cut, NFL players are no different. They would rather test free agency than take a pay cut. I expect him to get released as a post-June cut and Dallas to draft a RB in round 2/3 that can be a bell cow.

Would you take a paycut at your job?
Actually.............................No I wouldn't. Then again, if the option was take a paycut and make 5 million or don't take a paycut and go to another job and make 2 million, then I'd take the paycut. The cowboys will probably ask for a paycut, but still pay more than someone would offer Zeke on the open market. Just my opinion though.

I've been saying it for awhile. We will likely offer him a pay cut, and he will take it for two reasons.

1. He can't make more on the open market
2. He loves this team.

I think the Cowboys think he will do something to stay with the team. Maybe he even told them he would be willing to work something out. But many times when they start putting numbers down on the table, the two sides are far apart.

I don't think Zeke is worth more than $5 million but I doubt he would take that to come back. He is due $10.9 million in salary next year. $10 million the year after that, and $15.4 million in 2025. Does anyone believe the Cowboys will pay him that much money considering what he is now?

Unless Zeke comes in willing to dump most of his salary for next year, I think Dallas will have no choice but to let him go. Letting Pollard go and then paying Zeke $10.9 million would outrage Cowboys fans. It would be a public relations disaster for Jerry.

I think there is a good chance he is out of the league next year, his market won't be a ton more then league minimum. Maybe 5 million with incentives he will never hit a far cry from being the highest paid.

Pretty much the same situation (but different $) that Lawrence was in. Lawrence did a new deal that reduced his salary but gave him more guaranteed money.

I think the starting point is to take Zeke's 2023 salary and maybe offer about 60% of that in 23 and 24 as guaranteed. He's not getting much more than that on a new deal elsewhere.

Would there even be a market for Zeke outside of Dallas? I’m not entirely sure he would get signed if Dallas released him outright.

Running back can be a fickle position.

I don't know what happens in the future, but right now, his presence in the locker room makes a difference.

If we are 4th and 1 at the goaline to actually get a ring, I want the ball in Zeke's hands.

Maybe, but I've seen Zeke get stacked up short numerous times on those 3rd or 4th and 1 or 2yds.

Exactly....I mean $3M is a mere pittance! He'd be lucky if he could afford ramen noodles for dinner.
