World Cup 2014

Think this could be a mistake being hernandez in. The team is playing good, Chicharito doesnt like to challenge anything.

Great game. Ohoa is a god. The midfield for Mexico dominated forcing alves to defend. Took him out of the game. Mexico average..yeah right

i really dont. The only way i see Portugal not making it is if they lose to USA

Portugal won't beat Ghana.

They may beat the USA but all the US needs is a draw and Portugal is a much better matchup for the United States then Ghana is.

Plus, like I've said all along, Portugal is overrated.

one of the best parts of the world cup:D

You see the girl towards the end when they just missed the goal. Pretty face, blue eyes and the "oh my" reaction to the miss. Stunning!!

Ok. He is a real soccer fan. So I would think he knows what he is saying. Now I am just trying to figure it out.

Here is a transcript ... Maybe this will help you or someone figure this out?

He said, "all USA has to do is win one more, already ahead of Portugal in goal differential. USA advances, tiers for the taking"

"The Portugal loss is ok, but the 4 goals is a problem. Even if Portugal wins both games 2-0 they go home.

Does that help you help me? Lol

Brazil have been a massive disappointment so far, if not for some very dubious refereeing in the first game they could very easily be winless and without their posterboy. Assuming Croatia beat Cameroon tomorrow Croatia v Mexico is set up to be a cracker.

Your friend isn't thinking clearly.

If Portugal wins their next 2 games they will advance unless the USA beats Germany by some miracle.

If Portugal wins both their remaining games 2-0 they are probably going to advance. It would still depend on the outcome of the U.S./Germany game. In that situation, the U.S. would not only need to beat Germany, but also need to have a better score differential than Portugal to advance or more goals scored. Two 2-0 wins for Portugal would give them a 0 goal differential and 4 goals scored in group play. The U.S. would go into the game with Germany with a -1 goal differential and 2 goals scored. A 1-0 win for the U.S. over Germany would tie them with a 0 goal differential with Portugal, but they would be behind with only 3 goals scored. The U.S. needs to win and score more than 2 goals to advance. A 2-0 or 2-1 win over Germany would advance the U.S. to the knockout round. And all of that is based on Germany beating Ghana. If Ghana beats Germany and Portugal wins their two remaining games both 2-0, then there are even more tie breakers to consider. The U.S. would have to beat Germany to create a 3 way tie(Germany Portugal and U.S.A. would all have 6 points) that would come down to goal differential and goals scored in head-to-head matches. It could get complicated. Anyway the point is that nothing has definitely been resolved after the first round of the group stage. All the teams still have a chance although some are in better shape than others.

I think a draw for the USA against Portugal will put them through. I don't expect Ghana to beat Germany but I can see them beating Portugal.

I got a feeling things could unravel for Portugal on Sunday. If Wondolowski plays in strike then look for that guy to produce goals for the US. He seems to be in the right place at the right time constantly.

So he is thinking the 0-4 score(points or lack thereof) is more important than it is?

I got in a hurry and didn't realize my error until my drive home. If, based on the hypothetical that Portugal beat both Ghana and the U.S. 2-0, and then Ghana beat/tie Germany, then the U.S. will advance with a win over Germany no matter the score. It would be Portugal and U.S.A. advancing from the group in that scenario. Germany beating Ghana creates the 3 way tie that will be decided on goal differential and goals scored in the U.S./Germany match assuming a U.S. win. Still a lot left to be decided. Beat Portugal and it becomes much simpler.

Portugal wins the next two, they go through as the likelihood of Germany losing to the USA in a must win is slim.

Portugal would have the head to head so that would put them ahead of the USA.

Whether Portugal can beat the USA is another matter.

Yeah USA has to beat either Portugal or Germany. But if Portugal wins both games 2-0 that would mean they beat USA. So USA would have to beat Germany which isnt going to happen. Thats why i say if Portgual loses to USA, Portugal is out. They win and they are a virtual lock

A tie vs Portugal should be good enough to get the us through. ..

It would be used in the event that 2 or more teams have the same amount of points. Then they would go to goal differential.
