You see the girl towards the end when they just missed the goal. Pretty face, blue eyes and the "oh my" reaction to the miss. Stunning!!

Ok. He is a real soccer fan. So I would think he knows what he is saying. Now I am just trying to figure it out.
Here is a transcript ... Maybe this will help you or someone figure this out?
He said, "all USA has to do is win one more, already ahead of Portugal in goal differential. USA advances, tiers for the taking"
"The Portugal loss is ok, but the 4 goals is a problem. Even if Portugal wins both games 2-0 they go home.
Does that help you help me? Lol
Your friend isn't thinking clearly.
If Portugal wins their next 2 games they will advance unless the USA beats Germany by some miracle.
If Portugal wins both their remaining games 2-0 they are probably going to advance. It would still depend on the outcome of the U.S./Germany game. In that situation, the U.S. would not only need to beat Germany, but also need to have a better score differential than Portugal to advance or more goals scored. Two 2-0 wins for Portugal would give them a 0 goal differential and 4 goals scored in group play. The U.S. would go into the game with Germany with a -1 goal differential and 2 goals scored. A 1-0 win for the U.S. over Germany would tie them with a 0 goal differential with Portugal, but they would be behind with only 3 goals scored. The U.S. needs to win and score more than 2 goals to advance. A 2-0 or 2-1 win over Germany would advance the U.S. to the knockout round. And all of that is based on Germany beating Ghana. If Ghana beats Germany and Portugal wins their two remaining games both 2-0, then there are even more tie breakers to consider. The U.S. would have to beat Germany to create a 3 way tie(Germany Portugal and U.S.A. would all have 6 points) that would come down to goal differential and goals scored in head-to-head matches. It could get complicated. Anyway the point is that nothing has definitely been resolved after the first round of the group stage. All the teams still have a chance although some are in better shape than others.

So he is thinking the 0-4 score(points or lack thereof) is more important than it is?
