I am proud of the USA. They made great passes and controlled mid field with good defense. Altidore should help us. Great game.

The U.S. played better this game than they did against Ghana. Unfortunately the result was not as good. They only need a draw to advance. They can even get through with a 1 goal loss. Portugal isn't likely to make up their goal differential. Ghana would have to win by at least 2 goals to advance. If the U.S. loses 1-0 and Ghana wins 1-0, then the U.S. would still advance. The negatives are that both Germany and Ghana have an extra day of rest before the last group game and this World Cup has already shown that Manaus can really take a lot out of a team. It is going to be a tough chore, but they have a good chance. This has been one of the better groups in the tournament.

I bet we wish we had Landon Donovan there now instead of Bradley.

They would both be on the field at the same time. The U.S. scored 7 goals in 5 games in 2002, 2 goals in 3 games in 2006 and 5 goals in 4 games in 2010 with Donovan playing. They have scored 4 goals in 2 games this World Cup.

Yes. Thanks, that is what I meant to say. They would have to finish with a better goal differential or goals scored to advance because the next tie breaker would be the head-to-head results between the two teams, which the U.S. owns.

Despite my numerous disagreements with you on soccer, I agree with this comment.

Well maybe not South Korea. Everyone else I agree.

Goalie play from U.S is pretty erratic. I foresee Germany winning in decisive fashion. U.S NEEDED this game badly imo.

I agree.. I have a feeling ghana will do their part to advance.. Hopefully the usa can do theirs... A 0-0 draw w neither team showing interest in scoring would be nice

I do not get some of the futbol rules. For example,what determines how much time is put at the end of 90 min?

they have to add back time for all the fake flopping around acting hurt the players pull. I love football but I HATE all the fake injuries and fouls

Ronaldo showed why he rated the #1 player in the world, that pass was exquisite.

Also the US showed us why they are no where near the competition. Their level of play is just not on par with other countries and the sooner everyone realizes that soccer is not a majority sport here the easier it is to understand the lack of talent we have in that sport.

I don't know what game you watched but the USA was the best team on the pitch today.

Portugal isnt full strength. They have injuries, one to Ronaldo really hurts them as their whole offense goes through him. And Pepe being out this game because of the red card. I think Ghana is going to be too fast for them tho. big win for Ghana and them advancing with Germany.

Portugal has incredible depth just like all of the big Europe teams. I don't buy that excuse.

Right now the Goal differential is basically 2.

USA +1
Ghana -1

If USA loses 1-0
Ghana would have to win 2-0 to advance.

And of course it goes up and down from there depending on the score. The thing is they both play at the same time on the 26th. So all teams are just going to have to go all out. Only way Germany doesnt make it is if they lose 5-0 and Ghana wins 2-0 lol So Germany is in technically.

2-1 is enough for Ghana in that scenario. 5-5 is better than 4-4 because of goals scored.

Most of it has to do with adding time because of substitutions during the second half. As a rule of thumb add ~30 seconds per substitution.
