Ghana doesn't have to rout Portugal. They need a 2-0 or 2-1 win and hope the U.S. loses 1-0 to Germany. Those aren't out of the realm possibilities. Portgual is going to be playing on a days less rest. Portugal are in the worse spot of any teams in the group due to their poor goal differential. They will have to push hard to try and score as many goals as they can, which can leave them a bit stretched and susceptible to counter attacks. I think the U.S. is still in good position.

They haven't played a team like Germany of course who clearly didn't take Ghana seriously.

Still, only way USA doesn't advance is if they choke big time.

All they need is to play for a 0-0 tie.

I don't know what game you watched but the USA was the best team on the pitch today.

Of course Portugal and Ghana have more talent but talent doesn't win games. Teams do.

Sure they were but Portugal didn't have Pepe and they also had a gimpy Ronaldo who facilited great plays but didn't finish his own opportunities.

I'll be honest, we stole that win vs Ghana...and that's all I'll say about that.

Good teams dominate possession and can close games out confidently. The USA hasn't shown that against quality opponents. Our defending is passive and the ball control is mediocre in the middle of the field. The timidness that we play with is what gets us in trouble, and Portugal's all out attack after Dempsey's goal was proof that we still are lacking in that area.

Not sure how this Germany game will play out but I think both teams go conservative and draw to advance. (or at least I hope so)

Also, looking ahead if we advance...we will face Belgium more than likely. Had we been able to close out the game we would have been play Algeria/Russia.
