various:
The US is a 76% chance to advance according to statistician David Silver, who produces the soccer power index.

The US flat outplayed Portugal for 80 of the 95 minutes.
Crying about a missed foul is LOL. The US had the better run of play the majority of the day and only a lucky knee saved a 3rd US goal from dead blank range with the keeper drawn out of the box. The game wasn't really close.

The cross by Ronaldo was great but it was mostly shocking because it was his first unselfish play the entire friggin game.

Ghana isn't routing Portugal.

The US and Germany will be a fun game where both teams know a draw is enough to advance. Whichever team gets ahead will play defense realizing they have 2 goals to plays with really since a draw is through.

Anyone thinking the US isn't good based on these games is either lying to themselves or should stop talking about the sport altogether.
The US EASILY won CONCACAF and that region has provided a marvelous showing thus far, certainly better than UEFA and at least as good as CONMEBOL the traditional powers.

Donovan would have been a poor fit for this team. Klinnsman's strategy has been spot on with deadly attacks up both flanks from speedy cornerbacks.
Fabian Johnson has been superb. Donovan no longer has a two way gas tank. The choice was basically Donovan or Dempsey. After that it was down to which guy you sit on t he bench, Aron or Landon; and you let the kid sit and learn for the future.

Tim Howard has been quite good... and always is. The US back line could be called shaky and allowing 3 goals total to Ghana and Portugal is fairly outstanding in this tourney considering that back line.

The US is a minor soccer power now and for the foreseeable future. The goal keeping in the US system is as good as any country in the world. while the US is unlikely to be a thread for Cups in Europe or Africa they will be a threat on anything held in the Americas for a long time.

Uh Ronaldo had some great setups throughout the game...his selfishness is his reluctance to play defense when he's allowed to roam free throughout.

The US is playing better than expected but lets not kid ourselves here, we stole a win from Ghana, played a beatup of Portugal, and have no idea what Germany will do but we are playing them in favorable circumstances - needing a draw to advance.

I cannot tell you how valuable Tim Howard is...

I like what Klinnsman is doing overall, he needs time but we really do have some great young players.

Also, looking ahead if we advance...we will face Belgium more than likely. Had we been able to close out the game we would have been play Algeria/Russia.

Frustrating...

Had the U.S. won they would be in good position to win the group and possibly face Algeria/Russia, but that wasn't guaranteed. They would still need to beat or tie Germany to win the group. If Germany won in that scenario then Germany would win the group.;

whoooopie doo. Means nothing. I have lost count of the times that some one has claimed we reached the tipping point; I heard that first back in the 70's with Pele. Every ten years someone claims this and every time they have been wrong.

15 million is NOTHING. There are 315 million in the US.

All those kids that play youth soccer- 90% of them lose interest once they get to high school. They barely even watch it after that if at all. Soccer will never become all that in the US. Just will not. Because there is TOO MUCH COMPETITION for what many see as a boring sport. Football, Basketball, Baseball will always be more. NOW I could see Soccer replacing Hockey one day- that sport has slipped badly. So it is possible that it could become a distant 4th - but that is all.

Does 25 Million mean something? :)

25 Million Watch U.S.-Portugal World Cup Match

With an audience of 25 million viewers for Sunday’s game between the United States and Portugal, the World Cup is moving into elite territory as a sports property on American television. Ratings for the game were the highest for any soccer game telecast in America and reached more viewers than events like the N.B.A. finals or the World Series.

ESPN reported Monday that the game was its most-watched event outside of N.F.L. or college football. But it even rivaled the audience for the B.C.S. championship game on ESPN last January. That game averaged 25.7 million viewers, only counting the ESPN numbers. Sunday’s World Cup game peaked in viewership on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. when it reached almost 23 million viewers.

Sure they were but Portugal didn't have Pepe and they also had a gimpy Ronaldo who facilited great plays but didn't finish his own opportunities.

I'll be honest, we stole that win vs Ghana...and that's all I'll say about that.
...

We don't match up well with Ghana. That is why that game was so tough. That and they are extremely underrated.

They possessed the ball, pressured us in the mid field, and limited our chances.

Portugal was a much better match up. I think Germany will give us time on the ball as well so we will have some chances against them.

Ochoa is the best goalie in this world cup

He had a great game against Brazil but remember this is a guy who is currently without a club after his contract expired at the club who finished bottom in France.

You dont think he will be getting a deal after this world cup? The saves he's been making have been virtually point blank range right at him.

What is it going to take for him to get a truly significant ban? I'm talking a full year or so.
