Worst call in NFL history Face Mask

A major face mask foul usually results from a player grabbing an opponent by the face mask and using it to pull the player down or twist his head around and results in a 15-yard penalty and an automatic first down...

i admit when i saw it at originally, i thought it was a 5 yarder. the pic- and the pics frame by frame that show as it happened- changed my mind. it was quick, but by the rules, its a grab and twist and a 15 yarder.

Are you looking at the picture? His head is turned to the side in a position everyone an the planet makes probably 30 times a day. You can't tell anything from that picture, and if you put that evidence in a court of law, the prosecution or defense attorney would make mince meat of that evidence. I mean, you can't even tell if whoever it is, is even grabbing the facemask.

We would have been better off if it were a 15 yard worthy penalty because he would have tackled Taylor out of FG range. That's the irony of the situation that has me laughing.

Yeah, amazing. I thought exactly the same thing. If it was an actual 15 yard personal foul penalty, he wouldn't have gotten up.

The penalty is not what we should be whining about. The fact we couldn't tackle Taylor concerns me more.

As I said with gbrittain, I agree. I don't care about the interpretation of the flag. We blew it. That FG should have been made and there is no excuse beyond that. Congrats Skins. Wild finish that was as improbable as anything I have ever seen.

i understand exactly what youre saying. but if taylors head twists like it did- no matter if it was taylors momentum that did it or kosier twisting- the refs have to call that. the point was kosier didnt let go and taylors head twisting pretty good. in other words, were it not for kosier not letting go, taylors head would not have twisted that bad. i seriously thought it was a 5 yarder til i saw the pics. i couldnt argue that call if my life depended on it.

Yeah I agree. I hate that on some levels because it gets so childish, but when it is done in the spirit of rivalry instead of hatred, it can be fun.

We'll never forget this loss. You'll never forget the win.

in retrospect, Kosier should have held on to Taylor's facemask and brought him down with it. No way Novak can hit a 77 yrd fieldgoal. In a sense, the Cowboys were punished for trying NOT to injure a player. That was not a 15yd facemask, but whatever. No excuse for losing this game.

What do you mean he didn't let go?? He let go as quickly as humanly possible. Like I said, Taylor didn't even slow down.

It doesn't really matter now, but the call was ridiculous. It was a 5 yard call, period. Barely any contact. If he had have had a grip on the facemask, the runner wouldn't have been able to advance at all, much less as effortlessly as he did. Bull**** call to end a game.

15 yarder is if u tackle the player by his facemask.... there was no tackle

and there are 15 yard facemask calls all the time that don't involve tackling. You turn a guy's head and they'll call it.

What the 'Skins fans aren't getting and some others is that turning the facemask ALONE without the other prerequisites is not enough to call the penalty according to the rules. You actually have to grab and twist in an attempt to tackle and not let go, which did not occur.

These call was egregious, just like the personal foul call on Keith Davis when he tackled Portis.
