While we’ve had one constant leading Cowboys Football since our last championship , we’ve had 6 different HC’s unable to take us back to a Super Bowl or even a championship appearance .
How would you rank them during this time frame.
Here’s my order of worst Cowboys HC during this stretch:
Campo
Switzer
Phillips
Gailey
Garrett
Parcells
Not sure how we could place anyone but Campo with the 3 straight 5-11 seasons on the bottom. And Switzer left a mess of the dynasty Jimmy built. Wade left a mess of the team Bill had built. Gailey could possibly be ranked 2nd above Garrett as he probably did as much as anyone with what he had left . Jerry even admits cut him loose too soon.
The reason I rank Garrett that high is based on his record , division titles and playoff wins which the latter two are more than the rest combined. Despite his coaching flaws and dysfunctional situation he helped steer our franchise in a better direction and has helped influence this roster in a greater position to contend.
One of the best measurement of coaching despite records is have you left the team in a better position than when you took over. There’s only 3 HC in Jerry’s era which meet that criteria. Jimmy, Bill and Jason.
Campo was set up to fail by the bungling jerry. If we're going to use records, there is absolutely no point in even having this conversation.

Campo was a placeholder while the team dragged themselves out of salary cap hell. He never had a chance. I think I'd go with Phillips myself, but he's got some stiff competition in Switzer and Garrett. While we’ve had one constant leading Cowboys Football since our last championship , we’ve had 6 different HC’s unable to take us back to a Super Bowl or even a championship appearance .

He had no HC experience, was cheap and Booger knew he'd just be happy to have the title.Campo was set up to fail by the bungling jerry.
Garrett could have done more what he had. Such inconsistent results amidst so much promise with good players and promising seasons. Lack of killer instinct and poor game management, as well as a lack of overall leadership as a HC.While we’ve had one constant leading Cowboys Football since our last championship , we’ve had 6 different HC’s unable to take us back to a Super Bowl or even a championship appearance .

His line of reasoning is that everything has to be run past him anyway, so why have that person around in the first place.Garrett could have done more what he had. Such inconsistent results amidst so much promise with good players and promising seasons. Lack of killer instinct and poor game management, as well as a lack of overall leadership as a HC.
How ironic that Dallas had its first three coaches win at least one Super Bowl and then experience a draught of NFC Championship Games and Super Bowls. In the 24 years since our last Super Bowl: 4-4 in 8 Wild Card games and 0-6 in 6 Divisional playoff games.
.
Some, if not a lot, of the futility of the last 24 years can be laid at Jerry's feet for not hiring a qualified GM. I can only hope he defers to McCarthy and others if he continues to hold that title.
Not even close. You're failing to take team talent into consideration.Switzer won a super bowl here...he should be at the bottom w/Parcells...they are the 2 best post Jimmy.
That's not why I put him close to the bottom. I put him there simply because he was an absolutely awful HC.Barry Switzer gets unfairly blamed for the demise of the Cowboys in the 90s. We won games and a championship with him until free agency started tearing the team apart which is what caused the demise. Jerry had a tough time handling the salary cap when it was first implemented. We started losing good players to free agency. We lost our depth. It’s not like once we moved on from Switzer things got better.
Those are my bottom 3.Campo was a placeholder while the team dragged themselves out of salary cap hell. He never had a chance. I think I'd go with Phillips myself, but he's got some stiff competition in Switzer and Garrett.
